Synths, I tell you. I like Grand Designs, but that opening - WEEEner-neener-neener-neener-neener-neener-neener-NEEEner. It's like The Spirit of Radio riff played on a toy keyboard, or something.Have you ever thought that the intro was intentional to compliment the lyrics. Since the song is about "Style without substance, and stuff without style" That keyboard riff that repeats throughout represents the onslaught of 80s pop songs using repeated melodies like that. But all this "real music" talk is a bunch of crap. As soon as you rely upon electronic signal processing (amplification, reverb, echo, wah etc) to create your supposedly organic music, youre basically using the same concept as a synth to create the sound you want to get heard.
