The Brewers applied the 2014 version of the Mercy Rule. Up 11-2 in the 6th, they didn't bother challenging an obvious bad call against Ryan Braun at 1st base.

Brewers 11

Cubs 5

:ebert: :ebert:

And the Cubbies even the series at 1 with an 8-0 shellacking of the Brewers in Milwaukee

No, wait......didn't you mean to say that the Brewers win another series from the Cubs via their 9-0 thrashing of Samardzija??

Brewers 9

Pirates 3 (5 errors)

Top-o-1st inning: Brewer leadoff batter Jean Segura reaches 1st base on an error by the shortstop Mercer, then proceeds to 3rd on a botched pick-off play AND a bad throw to 2nd base by Ike Davis. THREE errors before the 3rd hitter comes to bat.

Late in the game, Pirates 3rd baseman Alvarez takes a routine grounder and throws the ball into the SIXTH row behind 1st base.

The very large Pittsburgh crowd was NOT entertained..... :laughing guy:

Sounds like the walkoff strikeout in that girls HS state championship softball game.

Good pitching stops good hitting as St. Louis Cardinals win 2 out of 3 games in Toronto. The Cards delivered back to back shutouts to stop the Jays hitters cold. On the positive side, since May 20, the Jays have played 5 teams who were in the post season last year (Cards, As, Tigers, Rays and Red Sox) and they have a record of 13-2 against them. I'll take that. Jays still lead American League East by 5.5 games over the Orioles. Go Jays! Time to start another winning streak. :dweez: Edited by RushCanuck

Hey goose, it's nice to hear from you. :)

:hi: Been on the road...Made atrek to washington to see the inlaws, caught a great car show in Sandpoint Idaho...then brought the inlaws back to NV for my daughter's graduation from high school. All that, plus work, has kept me busy and away from TRF.

Good to be back stirring the pot...

Bob Welch, one of my childhood favorites died today :(

http://news.msn.com/...ch-dies-at-57-1

He may be the last guy to ever win 25 games in a season.

And his showdown with Reggie Jackson in the 1978 WS was the stuff of legend.

Brewers 4

Reds 2

Reds pitcher Mat Latos comes off the DL and pitches his first game of the year. He is cruising thru the game with a 1-0 lead. He gives up one hit going to the 6th. Minimal pitch count......

....BUT THEN, in the bottom of the 6th with 2 out, Brewers 2nd baseman Scooter Gennett has a marathon at-bat - 13 pitches at least - and ends up with a double. He doesn't score, but he drives up Latos' pitch count so high that his manager takes him out of the game. The Reds' relievers promptly blow the 1-0 lead in the 7th and then blow a 2-2 tie in the 8th by allowing a clutch 2-run homer to Braun.

Without Gennett's 6th inning marathon at-bat, Latos probably pitches the 7th inning, and the game probably turns out differently. What a crazy game baseball is..... :laughing guy:

A's blast the Yanks, 10-5! :dweez:

Norris and Crisp with dingers, netting 3rbi each for the game. Cespedes adding 2rbi of his own.
