It does a body bad. Stopping sniffing it then! Why did I know that was coming. I was hoping for a more cleaver response instead of the fully expected cliche one. Mika
I like 'Spindrift'. A while back I picked only 2 songs from S&A to go on my ipod, and this and 'Faithless' were those songs. I like the groove - kind of impatient, swirly, and a little menacing. And my favourite part is the "What am I supposed to say, where are the words to answer you..." and the Geddy vocalization ("Whoa-oa-oa-OA-OA"). I'm glad that I enjoy it, and that's good enough for me!

Yup, at first I didn't know what to make of the song but now I like it quite a bit. I am one of the few people in this forum that thinks S&A is a great album! The only song that I do not care for on it is Faithless.
rocket ignites
My least favorite off S&A...hard to listen to until the "a little closer to you" section. Can't believe it was released as a single. About as non-Rush fan (or casual) as you can get. Not that it received actual radio play.
ReflectedLight
spindrift and the wreckers both give me the same feeling.
ReRushed
I think it's a pretty good song. I find it fun to sing along to and I like the gothic feel. Is it a great Rush song? No. Is it a bad Rush song? No. It's middle of the pack. And I certainly don't think it's gotten enough misplaced love from Rush fans to be considered overrated. theredtamasrule
Damn. Spindrift is hardly 'overrated'....it seems one of those S&A tunes that gets the ol' Cleveland Steamer dropped on it regularly. Howevah...I really like it. Quite a bit. It has that weird Rush vibe to it. Unlike the whole of Presto & RTB which add the "uck" to Suck.

WCFIELDS
QUOTE (ReflectedLight @ Jul 18 2012, 12:19 PM) absolutely dreadful and painful to listen to. the first 20 seconds are ok but than it quickly turns into an unpleasant pile of waste. this. terrible song....fits right it with the rest of S&A... bluefox4000
I'll never understand the S&A bashing. To me the step down is CA. but that's what makes this all interesting Mick

I'm glad that I enjoy it, and that's good enough for me! See, that's my only real complaint about it: too much "woooOOOOH" and "whooOOOAH-OH"-ing going on. I hate that in just about any song; frequently it seems to be code for "we couldn't really come up with anything that worked right here". Or, as sometimes happens live, "I forgot the lyrics to this passage".
J2112YYZ
I don't see where the song has ever been overrated. Because of this thread I listened to the song for the first time in awhile, it's probably been a year or two at least since I last heard it. The song is just OK, I used to like it more back when the album came out but the song doesn't seem to have stood up too well now that a few years have passed. NYM86
I'm a Spindraft fan. Pretty intense, brooding song with some cool straightforward lyrics. "What am I supposed to say? / Where are the words to answer you when you talk that way?"
