Mr. Not Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 Where the Heart is (It's a two hour long wal mart advert)
treeduck Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 (edited) http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/8/8b/Django_Unchained_Poster.jpg This was pretty good, the best Tarantino film since the 90s I'd say (although I've not seen the Grindhouse one), and probably the best since Pulp Fiction. It was a bit long, long enough for me to notice but it didn't drag, it kept my attention for the most part. It's not overly violent, there's some blood splatter scenes but nothing that much different than the Wild Bunch. The other complaint, the Spike Lee complaint, I don't see what the fuss is about. They say the N word quite a few times but it fits the time period and it didn't seem excessive within the context of the story. Samuel L Jackson was a bit over the top especially when he first appears, he cracked me up in fact with that act. And yet another different hairstyle! It was fun spotting all the famous cameos; Don Johnson, Russ Tamblyn, James Remar in a double role, Bruce Dern, Franco Nero and a ton of others. Edited January 14, 2013 by treeduck

Looper and Timecrimes were good. Lunopolis was decent for a cheesy fake documentary type movie. Some better effects definitely would've helped. I already knew Dredd kicked ass, I hope they make more.

I don't think Tarantino's style suits a WWII setting either. :finbar:

goose Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 Vanilla Sky. Did you like it?Great movie! Loaded with slid acting, and a good script. It's a remake of a Spanish film. You seen the original? I'd like to check it out. 1

treeduck Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/b/b0/Les-miserables-movie-poster1.jpg Hugh Jackman's voice sounds terrible in this! Is he a trained singer? The only part where he sounded good was the song he performed at around the two hour mark, where he belted one out at a high clear register. Most of of the time though his quivery warbling made me pull faces that a bulldog chewing a wasp would be proud of. Russell Crowe's voice owned him! Crowe didn't sound half as bad as I thought he would, in fact he's got the pipes for metal :haz: ...well death metal anyway... Meanwhile Anne Hathaway sang pretty well, but the best singers were the unknowns who were hired for their voice and not for their name. The bits with Sacha Baron Cohen and Helena Bonham Carter reminded me of them in Sweeney Todd. As for Helena's voice, she belongs behind the drums like her dear departed dad! :P Jackman started off looking like the last of the bearded mohichans but gradually he reverted to his true appearance, Logan! The Wolverine! :D No more musicals for me for a while, a long while :d13: ... :smoke:
librarian Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? and A Streetcar Named Desireboth were on TMC back to back the other night. Brando was a good looking kid. Age is not kind to anyone, is it?
Steevo Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? Still gives me shudders. Ugh.
