I'll check it out when I have a couple hours to read about the average road pebble size along the only partially passable route he took between shows that he won't talk about. Maybe his riding buddy will take pictures of him riding his bike through the oddly sized pebbles.

Sorry, I just can't read his stuff. I think he writes this long-winded stuff just to mess with us. He knows all we want to hear about is the new album. Read it all guys, I'm sure at the very end there will be something about the band, or not.

Unbelievable.

At this point, nothing surprises me about the things that Gemini, Nick and Riani type on here. I think they get off on the Neil-hating the way other people get off when visiting porn sites. laugh.gif

The drums and lyrics still work together to make good music, whether you agree or not!.

Drums aren't music.

Lyrics aren't music.

Therefore Neil Purt is irrelevant to music. With his ever growing nose and ears and greying skin, he's even more of an elevant.

Knowing you, you're probably saying that as a joke. But for those impressionable minds out there, lyrics are words, but drums are definitely a musical instrument. If you need an explanation, let us know. wink.gif

Forgive me, I was talking about the songs. But it's a small article and he's free to say as he wishes. He's a person and that's all. You're free to do as you wish as well, but you can not demand something from Neil just because; you can't ask him to change his views because they don't match yours. He will do what he wants. So get over it and quit talking about it. He's not beating a dead horse; it's you guys who are.

I'm not demanding that he stop. He has a right to his opinion. As do I. And I think that his obsession with those of faith is ridiculous.

Well he did mention something about not wanting to be in a studio making that pesky little album when they can be $touring$...because they can!

Anyhow, Neil doesn't need to express himself through song lyrics anymore, he has a blog. I'm not sure they care much about creating a concept album or doing anything unique or special.

The billboard thing, I can kind of see. When I took my first road trip down south I was surprised as well. But he has been through there before so he knows all about it but if you are not from there it's still pretty hard to ignore.

Overall, another boring update. It was a bit amusing at the end when he admits he feels more "alive" when he is on the road away from his family. scared.gif

QUOTE (Perchance to Dream @ May 1 2011, 04:59 PM)
Ummm...I just finished reading Neil's new post.  It seems like some of the folks around here are a little thin skinned when it comes to the subject of Neil's view on religion.  I'm not going to argue that point with anyone on this board.  No need really.  It's his opinion.  If you don't like it, too bad.

Anyway, I did not walk away from that "article" with the impression that he's putting down religion, at all.  He's asking questions, not stating fact.

My personal opinion of his faith, or lack thereof, reminds me of an old Woody Allen quote:  "To you, I'm an atheist.  To God, I'm the loyal opposition."

As always, a good read.

This post sounds like it's written by someone who really agrees with Neil's views, so it's easy to say too bad if you don't like it and it's really not a put down.

Why should people have to be thick skinned when someone constantly attacks some of their core beliefs about life, especially from someone they're trying to hold on to some semblance of their respect for?

Whether I agree with him or not is completely irrelevant.

Why do you feel the need for him to be more sympathetic to your personal beliefs? I'm not understanding your angst. He's a rock drummer/lyricist in a rock and roll band.

Imo, Neil has poisoned himself psychologically through excessive deep introversive thought.

Nothing wrong with introversion, but dig too deep and eventually you convert into a paranoid slave to your own thinking.

So, the Bible Bashing Rush fans here are getting their collective knickers in a twist over Peart's anti-religion lyrics...

Get over it people. The non-religious amongst us cannot stand having YOUR beliefs rammed down our throats, via TV Evangelical methods, billboard propaganda, fire and brimstone threats etc...

Peart has every right to express himself appertaining to his views on such matters.

Given the cyber "Witch Hunt" that seems to be rearing it's ugly head on this forum, it would appear that Peart got it exactly right back in '81.

As many others have stated, if you don't like Peart's views, well you know where the door is.

Please go and burn your crosses elsewhere.

It's simple from my perspective. Having extreme views on fundamentalist religion OR atheism shoved down my throat are BOTH really annoying. I really don't like Neil's lyrics in this direction, but if his lyrics were intensely religious and preachy, I'd find that obnoxious too. Maybe he thinks he's being the voice of reason (he certainly seems to be for those who agree with his views), but really he's essentially practicing the same kind of intolerance he thinks he's fighting against.

It all comes down to, why on earth does he need to be SO polarizing in his song lyrics? Can't he save it for a book? It's a real turn-off to a lot of people who otherwise love a lot of his music.

And of course he's free to do whatever he wants to do. I'm not trying to control how he wants to perform his art. This is obviously what he thinks about, and it's reflected in his lyrics now, but similarly, if you're going to write about such polarizing topics, you're going to have a backlash. To expect otherwise would be foolish.

The people here, including me, have just as much right to express their displeasure at this direction as he does to say his piece. The people here who are criticizing those of us who are criticizing him are also being intolerant. We're entitled to our views just as you are.

It does when I have to read the same opinion by the same posters posted over and over again in various threads. We get it. You don't like Neil's lyrics or his personality. Find something better to do with your time.
