  1. Unless Neil cut off complete contact with Geddy and Alex, the both of them absolutely did know. This would have also meant that Neil's wife and daughter would have not been in communication with either of them as well. Drummer Mike Portnoy mentioned on social media yesterday after the news broke that he was aware of Neil's health issues. If he knew there is no way Geddy and Alex didn't. When I first heard this news only a few sites were reporting, one being a music site that stated there had been rumors in the music sphere for some time that Neil had cancer. They remained quiet rumors and no one really spilled the beans to the public, which means something in today's world. I recall a post, here I believe, a while back in which someone said they heard something about Neil that they really hoped was not true. I am assuming this was it. Then there was a photo in which he looked quite thin, and no new writings from him. My husband and I surmised he probably was ill, so this isn't a huge shock to us. But props to all those people who knew something, and kept it quiet for so long, as privacy was so important to him.
  2. If it turns out he was wrong about an afterlife here's hoping the Rush fans up there aren't bugging him too much. :musicnote: RIP, farewell to a rare talent and a guy who truly endured.
  3. No one knows what will happen in the future, there is no harm in speculating. The opinion that it might not be over indicates nothing other than being open to a possibility. It does not represent fear or some kind of pathology, as some seem to think. It is reasonable to be open to possibilities, I've learned many things don't go the way that seems obvious or likely. Crazy things can happen, even as we get older, you just never know.
  4. Eat your peas, there are starving children in China, son. Used to walk ten miles to school in six feet of snow in patent leather shoes. Thanks to Rush you got it good son so let it just be the provided and predecided opinion that Rush can do whatever dern well they please and you got no gad-dern right to complain or speculate about it, boyz 'n girlz. :codger:
  5. I don't think I've posted here before but just want to report that as of June 23, 2015, based on objective observations using the naked eye from side stage, backed up by Nikon zoom lens binoculars, Geddy is still hot.
  6. Jacob's Ladder was mesmerizing. In the Boston area there were severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings all afternoon and evening. A few hours before the show a quick and nasty thunderstorm hit and lightning struck a tree near my home. Soon after, the storm was over, the sun came out through the storm clouds and there was a beautiful Jacob's ladder effect in the sky. I haven't seen that in ages. I talked to a few people at the show who saw it too. So cool, weird, amazing. JL and the Camera Eye were highlights. I'm so glad we are getting these shows, was hoping Clockwork Angels tour wouldn't be it, didn't get into that so much.
  7. The feel of the show was different from any recent tours I've attended. Second set I actually felt like it was the era of the songs being played. Might have helped that a few long hair hippie stoners were sitting next to us smoking something. Loved the slowly stripped down set and the lasers. The fans were feelin it so much and everyone was being so cool, I have not experienced that at any concert in a while. Got a bunch of high fives for no reason except that people were so into the music together. Even saw fewer cell phones in the air than usual, as people were so engrossed in actually watching the show. It was surreal to me, felt authentic more than just nostalgic. If this is the end it's a great way to go out.
  8. Impossible to get two seats together Ticketmaster at this point, gone as soon as they appear. Was just able to score single seats one row apart, loge next to stage Ged, my SO is not happy seats are not together but Karena is stoked to be going after all. Maybe someone will switch and we can sit together, need happy SO to be driving in and out of Boston.
  9. Last two tours I saw few kids there. Mostly fortysomething guys but a good range from twenties to sixty. Saw one vicious fight, a few scuffles, girls screaming threats at other girls, some parking lot incidents. Smelled weed at both, and drunks. A woman fell down drunk near the bathroom. I must have missed the family atmosphere.
  10. This is exponentially worse than the last couple of tours. Pre-sale and general sale, nothing. Prices in the stratosphere. TM keeps pushing resale tiks - there are nothing but crap seats being released. First tickets that come up at 10 am were in the back of the balcony, and not much better since.
  11. Yessss! Husbands and boyfriends too. There was some rock star wives show that was just bizarre. Nowadays many of them date/marry famous women anyway, like its a big media thing. Oh noes, Avril Lavigne and Nickelback guy are having problems! Check TMZ!
  12. Wives and girlfriends of musicians need to be quiet and stay in the background. They open their mouths and ruin things, so quiet is good.
  13. I am childfree. I grew up knowing childfree people and my partner's family also has childfree members. So I grew up not thinking anything of it and it has never been an issue. It has nothing to do with dysfunction or not thinking I'd be good at it. I am not selfish and give up a lot of my time and resources for others so it isn't that. I just never wanted kids, like many other people I know. I don't really get why it's an issue at all.?
  14. I don't believe in fan competition. I don't care who sits or why. My objection is people approaching other fans and asking them to sit, stop dancing or switch to a worse seat. :boo hiss:
  15. I was thinking along the same lines, except those who try to make others bow to their will are the selfish ones. Some of those maples can't handle the oaks standing so they form a union. LOL. Sorry, I'm a maple, very short and sometimes have to sit but I've never tried to cut down an oak. Maybe short people should tell all tall people to scoot down. Whats the difference between that and dictating that people should sit at a rock concert. If the venue allows standing, then people are going to stand. You go prepared for that and don't harrass people about it.
  16. I'm glad I'm not aging like that and I am pretty old. When I had problems with my leg I could not stand for very long, and went to about four rock concerts that year. I didn't feel the need to tell everyone in front of me to sit because I had to. How selfish is that.... When it comes to Rush I'll take the consequences of standing for three hours, I don't care if it hurts, it's Rush. The band is older than I am and look what they do night after night during a tour, I'm sure they feel it, so it's a little wussy for us to complain about just standing there. Or if other people stand, or fist pump or head bang, because some people don't want to, no one is supposed to do it? Huh? And then there were the times I took my mother to see Manilow and Neil Diamond, there were elderly women standing the whole time, waving their arms and squealing like teenyboppers. LOL, now those are fans.
  17. That is both sad and annoying. She looks like she just crawled out of bed, where she should have stayed. Everyone looks like slobs out in public now anyway, at least in the US, but to look sloppy and bored, and at a Rush show, major fail. I don't get it, life is short, why are are so many people just standing or sitting there. Aversion to fun? Boredom preference? Not appreciating something special. :(
  18. QUOTE (shail @ Sep 27 2012, 12:49 PM) whiners. Rock show folks. Stop going to security and ushers and have them do your dirty work. If your a girl fine ask them. Just go up and start shit with the people that are disruptive. They ruin it for you ruin it for them. We did just that at a show recently. The stupid drunks wouldn't shut up. We were about to ruin their faces. At least my ex military friend was. He has a very bad temper when f*cked with. We have each others back. After 9 years in Afghanistan in search in rescue these tools at rock concerts are petty shit. got them to shut up pretty fast. show was a great time. It doesn't always work out that way. If you start fighting you could all get kicked out. If your bad tempered soldier friend hurts someone bad enough he will get arrested and possibly sued. Everyone's so angry. If the drunks are just being obnoxious, what's new. Cell phone holders are obnoxious too but it is allowed. Some rotund guy was pushing into my little space, no excuse me or anything, and I just nudged him but no big deal. Two people stole our seats when we went to the bathroom during intermission. It was a crowded mess getting them to move out and getting us back to our seats and then hearing their excuses. Still, whatever. Frankly, there were a fair amount of people who just looked pissed off at the show even if they seemed to be enjoying the music. I don't get it, maybe that's the new thing.
  19. Somehow, back in the day, we could deal with concert experiences. Course there was more than drunks, and most of the audience was in the same demograhic, but still a lot of stuff happened and security was much more lax. I did dislike the angry drunks after the CA show. I saw three almost-fights on the way out. People used to leave rock concerts happy for the most part. Strange how things change. Then again, it might have been pent up rage because of the set list.
  20. QUOTE (rayrushray @ Sep 18 2012, 03:18 PM)Don't need a hug......I had to hug my two sons enough after the show to console them and try and convince them that Rush isn't really this lame. I just want it to be known that for every 100 folks who review each show in each city on this forum and "LOVED" it........there were 10,000.00 or so fans who left disappointed in it's lack of energy and enthusiasm(something Rush was always first rate at) If you are going to put a show together, make sure you realize that people are spending hard earned money in a bad economy to come and see it. Many are bringing their children, and the truth is, these"Rarities" would have received better reception if they had introduced them via some more familiar songs. Let it be a lesson to your kids- the world doesn't revolve around them (if they even care about the setlist at all). I'm not sure why you bring this up. If you don't like the setlist say so but why bring your kids into it. Just wondering, why do you use decimal points referring to attendance numbers (10,000.00 fans)? The good news is you can find a safe haven at the Counterparts board - up to a point.
  21. QUOTE (Motorshooter @ Sep 17 2012, 02:31 PM) Step up to Santa, tell him what you want, smile for the picture, down the slide you go. Ho...Ho...Ho... You'll shoot your eye out, kid.
  22. Good for him. He looks great. Women put in the effort to look good, guys can do it too. Now if we can just get Geddy back into those tight jeans.
  23. QUOTE (Deckiller @ Sep 9 2012, 03:32 PM) If you get a section of morons, you'll be peer pressured to sit. Happened in Manchester. If I had it my way, concerts should be mandatory standing unless there's a disability. Was this in the lower bowl? If so that is strange. Uppers, people tend to like to sit. Still, no way I'm sitting at a Rush show, I don't care what anyone says. My boyfriend sat for a while because his leg was cramping up and a few people were staring at him like he was an alien.
