  1. I think you might be just a tad naive into what goes into writing comics/graphic novels. You aren't writing the way you write a book, you write a script closer to the way you would a movie. It's not easy, and you'd probably suck at it. Firstly, I am not remotely interested in what goes into the making of a graphic novel (masqeurading as a book) nor it's relevance to film stucture. I have a problem with it being considered an "art form" It appears to appeal to the those with so called "learning disabilities" ADD etc... Where American pharma takes over actual immagination. Sad state of affairs. Finaly yes, I would suck at it.
  2. A graphic novel IS a comic book for sure. But your other comment is total wank and you know it. Why is my other comment "total wank" whatever that means and why would I know it?
  3. They are excellent tools to improve reading skills for people who struggle with reading. Plus, some people just like them. Don't buy it if you don't like them. It could be argued and it has, that comic books, sorry "Graphic Novels" only serve to aid to the deteriment of "Reading Skills" among children and the reliance upon such as to avoid using one's immagination and cognitive skills. I don't like them and I don't buy them. But thanks for the advice...
  4. "GRAPHIC NOVEL" Arrgghh... A comic book by any other name. So called "graphic novels" are written by people that can't actually write, for people who can't read books without pictures. I can't belive that Peart signed off on this shit.

  6. QUOTE (GeminiRising79 @ Sep 16 2012, 10:04 PM) QUOTE (wirushfanfrv @ Sep 16 2012, 12:20 AM) I just got done seeing my 16th show in Chicago. The last three shows I have been at I get the bone head RUSH fans who are white males in there 40s who have this great desire to drink as much alcohol before during and after the show. This time it was four of them with there stupid crew cuts, over weight, one of them had bottles of booze on him that he had to swing in between the beers. Oh then at the end one of them was hitting some weed them almost fell over. The twenty year old fans act better then these yahoos. Idiots! Are you sure they weren't Neil's inner jerkle of security thugs? Oooh, I bet the thought of Neil's big burly bodyguards got you all hot just typing about it ducky...
  7. Totally agree. Smoking has been banned in venues, why can't the same be applied to alcohol? Seriously, Does anybody NEED to get blind drunk to enjoy a concert and then ruin the whole thing by running to the bathroom every five minutes, falling all over the place, spilling drink over everybody throwing up, starting fights etc... Why anybody would pay good money to behave like that is beyond me. "It's a rock concert" state the brain dead drunks... Well it's a performance for me. And as a sober money paying fan, I'd like to watch and listen to the concert without having to deal with a bunch of inbred alcoholics getting in the way. The sooner alcohol is banned from venues the better.

Well, at 6'2 my kids don't think of me as a troll but they laughed at the thought of it! Oh wait, thats a term reserved for interweb people don't like what somebody has to say... TROLL, gotcha! Gotta love the cliched, "I'm not homophobic, I have gay friends" reply. Dude, you are a thick, pathetic, homophobic little redneck. Do yourself a favour and grow up.

  10. Given the vocal problems that Geddy had during the last tour, (hitting the high notes in their original key) I find this kind of set a completely natural transition. They're not performing this set because they want to, they're doing it because they have to. Geddy can't sing the high notes any longer. Perhaps he can on a one off gig, but not on an extended tour. He's almost 60 years of age and he wears a heavy bass guitar on his back every night... I think he does quite well. Personally, I hate the set. For me, the crack in the wall appeared just after Signals and completely fell apart during the Power Windows - Roll The Bones era. In my opinion, they started getting things back together from TFE onwards and I love CA although the production leaves much to be desired.. I like TBE and TAK but but the rest of the first set is a load of cheese from a decade that taste forgot. Still, Geddy can sing those songs and feels comfortable doing it. So, more power to him and the band. I really hope the tour goes well and that everybody attending has a great time!!
  11. Yes, and I find it quite disturbing.... Alex does the same thing with his guitar parts. I'm really beginning to wonder just how much of this show is "Live" and how much is playback. Funny how the band seem to think the audience actually believes that Alex is singing backing vocals...

The 90s started with a dancing rapping skeleton and ended with tragedy. The OP is just a baiting, flaming, give-me-attention-mommy hater... Hey Einstein, the clue is in the word "PRIOR" meaning BEFORE. Now, once you have consulted your little dictionary you might be in a position to get your brain around the the understanding of Before and After. It really is a very simple concept... The 70's happened BEFORE the 90's Get it? 70 comes before 90. Much like 1 comes BEFORE 2 etc... Sesame Street explained the whole number concept many years ago... Perhaps your family couldn't afford a television or an education? And no, I don't hate my mother. What a horrible, nasty thing to suggest. The only thing I hate is the mastering of "Clockwork Angels" Do yourself a massive favour and grow up.

QUOTE (Snaked @ Aug 7 2012, 03:31 AM) This is the thread that never ends.... Yes it goes on and on my friends.. Yes and your point is?? "OP" here again... Why it is too much trouble to type ORIGINAL POSTER? I mean seriously, does it take too long to type or is it more internet savvy with the net boys and girls that Peart predicted? "My ears need cleaning out" Perhaps, but my ears are still loving the wonderful mixes and mastering of the catalogue prior to 90's albums If anyone agrees that those albums sound great, then I guess that they need their ears cleaned out as well... Clockwork Angels was mastered for children.. children listening to music on on ipods, crappy little ear buds etc... spending their sorry little lives staring at phones and posting anonymously with silly little "avatars" Indeed, for the digital generation that will never have the opportunity to listen to music as it was originally intended... Anyway girls and boys, I stand by my OP (original post) ;-)
  14. QUOTE (Tick @ Jun 27 2012, 01:38 PM)Clockwork Angels troll call. State your name! CantStopThinkingBig lonelymoon Terrapin We just can't live without you! Love poke! "What a shitty album, I just have to say it." an any others...come on in the waters fine! "Geddy sings like he has mothballs in his mouth." "The Garden is a ripoff of Nirvana. it really is." "Someday you losers will wake up and stop pretending this album doesn't suck donkey penis." Calm down there "Tick" Do you have a therapist? If so, contact him now. If not, get one. When you find one, please do one of the following... Ask him why you are obsessed with a band that you will never be meet. Ask him why you spend most of your waking life posting interweb messages on a forum to people you haven't and never will meet. Ask him why you spend so much time posting little "smilies" in order to further "express" your primitive little emotions... ... and indeed, why you behave like a predictable little "net boy" Most of all, ask him why you have such a problem with people expressing opinions about an album that differs from yours and your subsequent need to to refer to them as "Trolls" Shouldn't cost you much...
  15. Apologies to everybody out there who are pretending to like this thing, but the songwriting, vocal melodies, song structures, arrangements are an example of a band that are completely devoid of any ideas as regards a musical future... The mastering is so bad that the individual instruments and vocals are difficult to hear. Quite obviously, to anybody with a pair of ears this album has been cut and pasted beyond belief and not particularly well No, it doesn't "Kick Ass" and no, it's not their best since... ? To be honest, I would prefer to read the novel than to have to listen to Pearts backing band trying to come up with some dodgy music in an effort to support his narrative. "In the fullness of time" this album will go down as sucking as much as the rest of the Rush catalogue since "Signals" I remember reading on this forum how great "Snakes and Arrows" was, only to be slagged of a few moths later, once the childish euphoria wore off.. CA is truly awful... you'll all agree with me in a few years - or through the "fullness" of time...
  16. QUOTE (UltimoGuitarist @ Jun 20 2012, 08:04 PM) Anyone else bothered by this at all? Basically, at 2:41 - 2:46, there is no drum roll lead up into the next verse at all. No big deal...whatevs, it doesnt seem like Peart at all NOT to put something there but that's fine. But at LEAST put some kind of dominant cymbal crash at the beginning of the verse to kick it off with some power. Instead it just seems like he starts rocking the verse right on the highhat. Was this a recording error or something maybe? More likely a result of Nick R's "conducting"
  17. QUOTE (Rushman14 @ Jun 20 2012, 05:26 PM) QUOTE (Two0neOneTwo @ Jun 20 2012, 08:37 AM) I mean seriously, they obviously listened to this thing a million times before the release. Did NO ONE say, "Hey, thats kinda noisy isn't it?" No one?? right? I've asked myself this question 100 times. I think the answer (if there is a definitive answer) could be one of several possibilities based upon my assumption that the problem is with the mastering... 1. As is usually the case, the boys weren't present during the mastering sessions and dislike it as much as we do and too late to do anything about it due to contractual release dates etc... 2. The boys disliked it yet were told something along the lines of, "This is the way modern rock records are mastered these days, it sounds great guys!" and went along with it. 3. As Rick Wakeman once said, "Familiarity breeds contempt, but it also breeds acceptance" Perhaps after listening to it for weeks/months before its release they gradually came to believe that it sounded OK. More cynically .... 4. They felt that they had done their jobs and left the mastering to the "professionals" to do their job and subsequently distanced themselves from it. 5. They have no power of veto with their record company regarding the mastering process. It could be any number of reasons. Still, I feel that the problem is with the mastering process and not the actual mix, for which the boys would have been present. To my ears it sounds like a clean mix (albeit somewhat loud) that was SLAMMED into a wall of compression during the mastering process... One only has to compare CA with any number of their 70s/80's releases to notice the sonic differences, dynamics, light and shade etc... For example, give 2112 a listen. During the "Soliloquy" section beginning at 15:57, the waterfall, guitar and vocals are subtle and clearly defined. When the whole band kicks in at 16:54 its MUCH louder, all three of them are playing far more aggressively and Geddy is screaming. However, everything is still clearly defined. This my friends, is what we call clarity, sonic space and ultimately, DYNAMICS. All of which CA is completely devoid due to the mastering. My humble opinion of course.

Well then, I'm off to listen to my MP3 version of Hemispheres which, I hasten to add, sounds infinitely superior to CA despite the "low-quality" and "old fashioned" recording methods... It's all about technique and mic placement ;-) I'll leave you youngun's to continue the debate... :-)

QUOTE (GUP1771 @ Jun 13 2012, 01:12 AM) QUOTE (Mr. Henry Gale @ Jun 12 2012, 08:08 PM) QUOTE (RushIslander @ Jun 12 2012, 05:04 PM) Is this a joke thread? It seems like a joke that people are actually defending the album as sounding great. Definitely. I actually enjoy this album, and am not even bothered by the mastering. But how anyone can say the album sounds "great" is beyond me. Seems peoples standards for good sounding albums has really gone down. I never said it sounds amazing, but I don't get why people are screaming bloody murder and calling for the guy who mastered it to be hung. Saying that it sounds "dreadful" is just crazy and blowing something out of proportion. I didn't say "hung" I said "hanged" Pictures are hung, people are hanged. Grammar can be an interesting subject, learn it...

QUOTE (Snaked @ Jun 13 2012, 12:47 AM) RUSH could release an album that sounds like The Nightfly and people on these forums would spout off nonsense like "zOMG! It's got teh brIckwAllzzzz!" Relax people.. it's fine. Um, no... Are you seriously comparing Donald Fagens "Nightfly" to this abysmal rubbish? There is NO comparison, musically and/or sonically. Nightfly has and IS used in countless venues and recording studios as a metaphorical yardstick of how music SHOUD sound and relate to the listener, irregardless of musical taste. There is no degree of compression and subsequent loss of sonic quality. In my DAW (Logic 9) CA is peaking all over the place, NF is tame and where it should be. Again, maybe it's my age (the age) Still, the songs are quite good ;-)

QUOTE (They Bow Defeated @ Jun 13 2012, 12:30 AM) Where's the obligatory posting of the waveform images? http://i46.tinypic.com/2wpum1h.jpg It's going to be a long summer, that's for sure. I predict this mastering complaint and the "faith bashing" accusation will be the two rallying cries for the CA haterz. I guess they have to latch onto something since CA is obviously shaping up as a near-classic for Rush. Nope, don't hate Clockwork Angels, in fact, I love most of it. My issue is with the mastering. Not particularly interested in religion or the "bashing" thereof. Just don't like the mastering and the lack of sonic clarity.

QUOTE (ak2112 @ Jun 13 2012, 12:13 AM) Agreed. I just do not understand how such a sonic abortion could have been allowed to happen again. Did the band learn nothing from VT? I just dont think they care, which is sad. Let Steven Wilson master it and it'll sound fantastic! Very well put. One would think that the mistakes of VP should have been a lessoned learned. Perhaps, the boys are thinking more in terms of golf, wine, prose, baseball these days? Fact is, the album sounds dreadful,. Furthermore, I don't think Nick R is the right man for the job. He may get the boys all excited and "conduct" Neil with his comedy drumstick, say funny things like "Boughze" but it isn't helping the overall sound! The mastering process is a fine art and arguably, the most important aspect as regards to the overall album release. IMHO the boys have seriously taken their eyes off the ball with this one...

I'm sorry, but the mastering is appalling. I'm a massive Fanboy or "Fanboi" whatever... but this thing sounds like a carefully executed fart trying to escape from a well weaved, 3-ply piece of perfumed toilet paper... Songs are great, performances are great as well. Such a shame, it could have been immense!
