Mine has to be Countdown to Ecstasy...one perfect song after another; just flawless.

So which is your favorite?

Didn't they put out another album after "Everything Must Go"?

I'm going with the obvious: Aja.

Lots of the 70s Dan albums are classics. Royal Scam gets my vote.

The Royal Scam (1976) trink39.gif

there are individual 'songs' that are better than some on TRS, but nothing else in their catalog comes even remotely close to being a perfect 'album'

Can't Buy A Thrill still dominates my world. Pretzel Logic comes after that.

Do It Again

Dirty Work

Reelin' In The Years

Rikki Don't Lose That Number

Any Major Dude Will Tell You

Pure, unmitigated perfection..... 1022.gif 1022.gif 1022.gif

I never owned and Steely Dan so I dont know any of their albums start to finish and I'm not that familiar with the less popular and more obscure songs but I've always liked what I heard on the radio and here and there. Wait, i do have a couple on vinyl *thumbing through records....* ah, right here I have "Aja" and "Greatest Hits", a double LP of all their popular tracks and a bunch I dont recognize. But I'm sure it's all good. I oughta break it out sometime. Steely Dan is a cool jazzy vibe and those two guys sure have a great band backing them up.

hard to argue with that.

Midnight Cruiser and Brooklyn are other standouts from the first disc too.

Second only to Rush in my book..................... cool10.gif

Exactly why I don't get into them very much. Like a lot of other bands their first album for me is their best though I like some stuff on the second one too. And 'Rikki'.

Pretzel Logic has some of the most Danified Badass Grooves ever! Monkey in your soul! Aside from that, Diaz's solo on Night By Night is one of the best phrased solos ever.

Aja. A perfect 10 of an album.

Aja is a great 20 minute e.p.

IMO it's constantly and consistently over-rated

now Aja, Deacon Blues and Peg are above reproach, no question

but Black Cow is just 'ok', especially when considered against their entire catalog to that point - it's a little too laid back, and the pre-chorus/chorus doesn't develop... ever

Home at Last is a little better than Black Cow, but as soon as it's over I completely forget it - pleasant but unmemorable

I Got the News takes the great drum groove from Green Earrings then grafts a rather uninteresting modified blues riff over the top

Josie (you know what - ok, Josie is pretty awesome... I just forgot about it wink.gif )

so, I stand corrected:

Aja is a great 25 minute e.p.

nice!

skunk baxter is great on that disc and the first.

I love the whole disc but my two faves are Any Major Dude Will Tell and Barrytown.

To make one choice in this poll was very difficult for me, but ultimately I voted 'Katy Lied'.

I really dig Steely Dan's sound.
