  1. Ancient Ways, I truly mean what I say. I'm sorry for TS's disappointment in the delay of release for an item he anticipated as a time-relevant gift and Christmas has, indeed, been bastardized by commercialism and has been morphed into something that has departed from it's original meaning. For example, some retail stores in my area have had Christmas-themed junk on their shelves for a few weeks, now. Why? Because Christmas's meaning has changed dramatically for a major portion of society (in the USA, at least).
  2. Many a rock band, especially during the '70's, were influenced by Led Zeppelin so it wouldn't surprise me if some sampling occurred, albeit subliminally.
  3. Sorry for your disappointment. Christmas has become overrated, anyhow.

  10. QUOTE (Jaminbenb @ Apr 9 2011, 02:07 PM) QUOTE (summer_sky @ Apr 9 2011, 12:53 PM) You've got some really great photos! Thanks for sharing them with us! One of the things that I was in awe of during the show was observing the lighting rigs in operation. From my vantage point, I really got an idea of how huge and complicated are those rigs. Really fascinating to watch them move about over the stage. Not only that...did you notice how they were all attached to the girders by what looked like thin wire or chains?!?! The band must REALLY have a lot of trust in the riggers!!!! That lighting rig in the center was wild! I'm guessing those wires are of titanium to be able support all that weight and have such tensile strength and flexibility. And, I'm sure the riggers are quite experienced engineers. I find all that 'behind the scene' stuff at work that makes a show happen to be so very interesting and fascinating.

  12. I'm a marathon 'Stander' As were most people in my section. What I mean by the performance being "flat" is that it seemed to me that the fire and enthusiasm wasn't there for the band. For me, it was like they were not particularly excited to be playing last night and it was just another gig to get through. Not that I can blame them... personally, I think it must get boring performing the same show over and over and over. They played well, don't get me wrong, however I think they seemed tired and/or bored. Btw, I think 'Caravan' sounded great last night. And, I can never get enough 'La Villa' and 'Working Man'.
  13. Just home from Hershey show. Had great aisle seat on Geddy's side, section 108. Fantastic view of Geddy and Geddy's techie off stage. Gave away my extra ticket for section 121 to a random fan. Didn't even get a thank you, but that is alright. Sound was much better than I expected; thought the performance was kinda flat, although Neil's solo was rather great; crowd seemed a bit mellow; guy next to me was downright grumpy. I've experienced better RUSH shows. Did buy Neil's book. Had a good time despite all.
  14. To make one choice in this poll was very difficult for me, but ultimately I voted 'Katy Lied'. I really dig Steely Dan's sound.
  15. Rewiring 3 (!) lamps and hanging 15 paintings/pictures has made my day, today. And, it's only noon! I'm on a roll ...
  16. "I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, "Where's the self-help section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose." "Have you ever noticed that anybody driving slower than you is an idiot, and anyone going faster than you is a maniac?" George Carlin
  17. How clever! Fun video, for sure! Thanks, jawkjaw!
  18. A retired corporate executive, now a widower, decided to take a vacation. He booked himself on a Caribbean cruise and proceeded to have the time of his life, that is, until the ship sank. He found himself on an island with no other people, no supplies, nothing, only bananas and coconuts. After about four months, he is lying on the beach one day when the most gorgeous woman he has ever seen rows up to the shore. In disbelief, he asks, "Where did you come from? How did you get here?" She replies, "I rowed from the other side of the island. I landed here when my cruise ship sank." "Amazing," he notes. "You were really lucky to have a row boat wash up with you." "Oh, this thing?" explains the woman. "I made the boat out of raw material I found on the island. The oars were whittled from gum tree branches. I wove the bottom from palm branches, and the sides and stern came from a Eucalyptus tree." "But, where did you get the tools?" "Oh, that was no problem," replied the woman. "On the south side of the island, a very unusual stratum of alluvial rock is exposed. I found if I fired it to a certain temperature in my kiln, it melted into ductile iron. I used that for tools and used the tools to make the hardware." The guy is stunned. "Let's row over to my place," she says. After a few minutes of rowing, she docks the boat at a small wharf. As the man looks to shore, he nearly falls off the boat. Before him is a stone walk leading to an exquisite bungalow painted in blue and white. While the woman ties up the rowboat wit h an expertly woven hemp rope, the man can only stare ahead, dumb struck. As they walk into the house, she says casually, "It's not much, but I call it home. Sit down, please. Would you like a drink?" "No! No thank you," he blurts out, still dazed. "I can't take another drop of coconut juice." "It's not coconut juice," winks the woman. "I have a still. How would you like a Pina Colada?" Trying to hide his continued amazement, the man accepts, and they sit down on her couch to talk. After they have exchanged their stories, the woman announces, "I'm going to slip into something more comfortable. Would you like to take a shower and shave? There is a razor upstairs in the bathroom cabinet." No longer questioning anything, the man goes into the bathroom. There, in the cabinet, a razor made from a piece of tortoise bone. Two shells honed to a hollow ground edge are fastened on to its end inside a swivel mechanism. "This woman is amazing," he muses. "What next?" When he returns, she greets him wearing nothing but vines, strategically positioned, and smelling faintly of gardenias. She beckons for him to sit down next to her. "Tell me," she begins suggestively, slithering closer to him, "We've been out here for many months. You've been lonely. There's something I'm sure you really feel like doing right now, something you've been longing for?" She stares into his eyes. He can't believe what he's hearing. "You mean . . he swallows excitedly and tears start to form in his eyes." . . . "Don't tell me you've built a Golf Course!"
  19. QUOTE (Litehawk @ Mar 20 2011, 01:15 PM) QUOTE (HuskyRunner @ Feb 11 2011, 05:59 PM) A chicken and an egg are lying in bed. The chicken is leaning against the headboard smoking a cigarette, with a satisfied smile on its face. The egg, looking a bit pissed off, grabs the sheet, rolls over, and says, "Well, I guess we finally answered THAT question." I don't get it >.< damnit I'll explain it to ya, but I gotta see your ID first
  20. QUOTE (Workaholic Man @ Mar 19 2011, 11:20 PM) Got off work early. Had a great lunch date with an old female friend from long ago. Tossed the football with the nephew (he and his sister actually got along today). Went home and FINALLY organized all the cords behind my TV and surround sound system. Today was a good day. sounds like a great day (btw, organizing the cable spaghetti was sumthin' I got done on Friday. )
  21. I completed a project that involved using a power tool and drilling 2 holes into 70+ year old, well seasoned, very VERY hard wood! For anybody who knows me and my lack of ability involving anything to do with being handy and/or mechanical, this is a major accomplishment! It only took me 45 minutes and 3 drill bits. All by myself, I figured out how to tighten the bits in the drill chuck, made the drill go both forward and reverse and everything! I think I even discovered the overdrive speed, too! A new plant hanger bracket is now solidly in place and my day has been made
  22. QUOTE (Mara @ Mar 19 2011, 01:13 PM) I got mine at 32, after surgery to repair a break didn't work. I've had it 10 years and this most recent operation was only a partial revision. Your co-worker benefited from several advances in the technology that have occurred since I had mine done. Mainly, they last longer, whereas before you could expect maybe 15 years out of one. He's likely to never need it done again and is probably OK for activities like running that used to be verboten for THR patients. I'm lucky in that this is probably the last time I'll have to worry about it, unless I break that femur or something. Yeah, I spent a week after surgery eating meals standing at the kitchen counter, since I couldn't carry anything with two crutches! Very frustrating. My co-worker had some kind of partial thing done to his hip about 5 years ago. I don't really know what was done exactly, but I do know that he didn't obey doctor orders for proper care and rehab therapy and that led to his current full replacement. I don't know the name of his hip problem, something necrosis I think, but it has to do with premature deterioration of the bones in his hip/pelvic area. At any rate, I think the condition sounds painful and a lot with which to live... especially at such a young age. Sending my best wishes for a healthy recovery to you and hoping you are on spinning that bike of yours soon!
