Tough one. I went with 2001, but I seriously considered Strangelove, and gave passing thought to both Spartacus and Full Metal Jacket. Paths of Glory and The Killing are both excellent, as well.

I actually went and checked Imdb before voting, because I couldn't believe he did nothing between FMJ and Eyes Wide Shut.

lots of great movies here.

Paths of Glory for me - awesome movie.

second - Dr. Strangelove

Dr. Strangelove and Paths of Glory are his two best films, but every one of his films is brilliant, IMO. My favorite film director, by far. I voted for Dr. Strangelove.

Note: I don't think Fear and Desire shouldn't be listed. It's Kubrick's equivalent of a student film and he pretty much disowned it. I saw it years ago and I don't blame him.

I've always thought the greatest mind trip of all time was 2001: a Space Odyssey. It helps to read the books, though. That's where the genious of Arthur C. Clarke came in! yes.gif

I'm surprised Eyes Wide Shut got a vote. I thought that was the worst one I saw of his, not that I've seen all of them.

I've seen every movie listed from Dr. Strangelove on, except Full Metal Jacket which I really have no interest in.

As GREAT and groundbreaking as 2001 is, I had to choose The Shining. The Shining is my favorite horror movie of all time. I find there are precious few really high quality horror movies that actually have an interesting story, and that one is the best of the best.

A Clockwork Orange, while undoubtedly brilliantly made, is just too disturbing for me to watch. I've seen it a couple of times, mind you, but, well, I'll leave it at that...

Did you there's a film version of Rendezvous With Rama in the works? I read it so long ago that I don't remember much about it, but I remember it being a great book.

I also enjoyed Eyes Wide Shut very much. Like most Kubrick films it benefits from repeated viewings.
