  1. Boss Hogg and Roscoe made that show work. They were the best actors on the show, and the source of all the laughs.
  2. I've seen it once or twice. Great show.
  3. QUOTE (Merely Space @ Aug 14 2008, 08:30 AM) QUOTE (MULTIPLIED REACTION @ Aug 13 2008, 11:18 PM) I'm waiting for the remake of Ishtar. Funny. I'm waiting for the remake of Heaven's Gate. IMO, one of the reasons for remakes is the ugly intersection of art and business. Investing in art is difficult, because it can be so unpredictable. That's terrifying for an investor. But remakes give the business people an illusion of predictability. They can a) grasp what the film is going to be like, because they've seen it before, and say to themselves "hey, this concept made money the first time around, so it's safe to bet it will make money this time around." Exactly right. Remakes and sequels are low risk money makers. New and original means a lot more risk. Until this changes, we will be seeing more and more remakes and sequels, along with sequels of remakes, even.
  4. I'm surprised Eyes Wide Shut got a vote. I thought that was the worst one I saw of his, not that I've seen all of them.
  5. QUOTE (lerxt1990 @ Aug 1 2008, 08:58 PM) http://maps.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&FORM...scl=1&encType=1 There it is folks. Angelinos... what is that thing behind the house, some sort of aquaduct? That's the Los Angeles River. It runs through the Valley, alongside the Ventura Freeway, then near downtown, then onward to Long Beach where it ends. Some movies and videos have scenes by the LA River near downtown. http://www.urbanedpartnership.org/target/u...tour/index.html

  9. QUOTE (Test4VitalSigns @ Jul 30 2008, 11:32 PM) QUOTE (moltenlava @ Jul 31 2008, 12:22 AM) Howie Hamburger Dude, huh? Thanks. That would have eventually weighed on my mind and I would have been forced to IMDb it....Which one was the film when they were all under the table doing blow? Had to be Nice Dreams then, right? Yep. Now I remember. Cheech bumps into his old girlfriend at the Diner, and she's with the Humburger Dude. Then they jet off to hotel to service her and they meet up with her big, burly, biker boyfriend who hates Mexicans. lol. You remember that cat's name? Yup that was Nice Dreams. As for the dude's name I think it was Animal. Been a very long time since I've watched Nice Dreams. I'll have to buy it to add to the collection Found the scene: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VooULmgxhZ4

  11. This makes as much sense as a third Wayne's World.

  14. QUOTE (Jack Aubrey @ Jul 17 2008, 10:27 AM) Now that Mama Mia song is going through my head! I'm gonna have to get it out with a bullet! Actually the mention of that always gets Bohemian Rhapsody going through my head. I certainly don't mind that. So give that a shot if you're still stuck.

All the Wayne's Worlds, Shreks, and Austin Powers far outweigh the Cat in the Hats and Love Gurus IMO. I'm biased though, since he was part of my favorite era of SNL (Meyers, Dana Carvey, Phil Hartman, Kevin Nealon, and later Farley & Sandler). I miss Phil He was a riot. I particularly liked his imitation of Sinatra... hilarious... To Billy Idol: "I got chunks of guys like you in my stool!" To Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme: "Shut up, you wastes of space! Just be glad you get to hang with me! It's your choice: you can open for me at the Meadowlands, or you can headline at the Tick Tock Inn." Phil Hartman was an enormous talent. Are you sure the first one wasn't from Joe Piscopo's version? Positive. It was Hartman, with Sting playing Billy Idol. http://snltranscripts.jt.org/90/90ksinatra.phtml

  17. Not exactly the same thing but Stanley Kubrick died during the filming of Eyes Wide Shut.
  18. Goob mentioned Ferrell in Wedding Crashers. I forgot about that one. I would now say that was hist best movie. But my overall choice is still Myers.
  19. The original cast has always been the consensus pick. Not including that cast, I would go with the late 80s through early 90s era. (So I guess it's a tie between those choices on the list.) Yes, it's gotten so bad now that we don't even say that we forgot to watch it. We just don't watch anymore. It is time to retire the franchise.
  20. I chose Mike Myers. I think Wayne's World and Austin Powers were absolute comedy classics. He might have done a few duds, and he probably overextended the Austin Powers series, but those two movies alone put him up there. Will Ferrell is hit and miss for me. I think his funniest one was Night at the Roxy. "Emiiiliooooooo!!!" I saw Old School and Anchorman, but I can't say as much for either. Not bad, but not great, either. The newer basketall movie doesn't interest me that much. Adam Sandler is seriously overrated. Caliendo's impersonation of him where he says "Please give me $10 million" is priceless. Waterboy and Happy Gilmore were kind of funny, but Anger Management was an abomination. Even Jack Nicholson couldn't save that one.
  21. Yep, I thought it was a Maiden thread, too. Love your avatar, Jack.
  22. Caddyshack Cheech and Chong's Next Movie Borat
  23. QUOTE (lerxt1990 @ Jun 6 2008, 10:03 AM) I caught the last 30 minutes of this film recently. Wow. I'd been avoiding ripping the scab off that wound for a while. Very emotional, and well made film from what I could tell. I saw a good part of it on cable awhile back, also. Yeah, it was all that and more.
  24. QUOTE (iluvgeddy05 @ Jun 6 2008, 12:48 PM) The series was more than shoes and designer labels though, even though the movie puts more of this stuff into it for vanity sake. It was perhaps the first time an all female cast talked about things some of us in our own lives wouldn't even dare talk about with our friends. (example: Samantha: "I'm dating a guy with the funkiest tasting ---" insert word for umm "stuff" here ) They talked about their own careers and being 30+ and not married, but not a "spinster" either. It explored cases of women living on their own, owning their own place without a man, even if it seemed unrealistic. Carries show obsession was more character development than being logical. All this is really daring and powerful for television and heck, even films, which goes beyond just talking about cosmos and Blahniks. It was a very well done series. I didn't like all the characters, as I mentioned before. I think that was part of the design, though. One does not have to like everyone on a show to like the show itself. The show was very well written. It did go places shows almost never go, if ever, that's for sure.

The bar where we met before the movie was FILLED with groups of women...many with that tell-tale drink in their hands. The movie was beautiful, funny, and touching in spots, esp. to this diehard SATC series fan. No, it wasn't an epic, but it was the perfect movie for the FANS, which makes sense, because they made it for us. I've read lots of reviews from critics calling it shallow and unrealistic, blah blah blah. Whatever. It was great fun, and I had a wonderful time watching it in a PACKED theatre, laughing along with all the ladies. I thought the movie was GREAT. Seriously, I enjoyed it a lot more than that Indy film. For the first 20 minutes or so I was just so excited to be seeing all those great familiar characters on screen that I barely cared about the story. There was one major story point that I wasn't thrilled with, but they made it work in the end. All in all I loved the movie and it was very satisfying to my wife and I, both big fans of the tv show. I guess I'm officially gay now. Don't tell the wife though, we just celebrated our 7th wedding anniversary. I only saw a few of the shows, but it seemed to me to have the guilty pleasure appeal of any soap-opera-ish show with characters that were interesting and quirky in their own way... Same for Melrose Place, 90210, and other shows it seems to me... My next movie, Ive been told, is Kung Fu Panda, no SITC for me What I really love about the show is that it stars 4 powerful women who are in control of their own destinies. There haven't been enough shows like that with really powerful women characters. No wonder the show was so popular - it filled a much needed gap. I also love it because of how well done it all was. Much better and more plausible than crappy soap operas... I would say that Miranda and Samantha were powerful women who had real control over their destinies. Carrie and Charlotte had a sense of entitlement. Perhaps true, but Carrie worked hard for what she had, and Charlotte worked at an art gallery until she didn't have to anymore, even if they were spoiled. Hell, all of them are spoiled. I understand what you're saying, but still I see them as powerful women in a way that hasn't been shown before on TV, at least not to the extent of Sex and the City... It's been shown on TV before. Murphy Brown, Mary Tyler Moore, the Cosby Show, plenty of shows that had women controlling their own destinies. Miranda and Samantha were not the first such characters on a regular TV series, not by a long shot. Carrie had a one bedroom apartment in Manhattan and a closetful of Blahniks, all on a writer's salary? Plausible? Not by a long shot.
