"Influences? Yes actually, the great canadian trio RUSH!!"

"Very nice...er what's your band called again?"

"the sfhhsjnajsaaasd!!"

"ah ha...ok great name...plenty of bands have shown their Rush influences but who has done so in the most obvious way? Who sets sail with RUSH colours flying highest from their mast?"

DT. And I don't mean Devin Townsend. I don't know why he's even there. I know he's a big fan, but I see very little similarity in sound. Although the sweeping, epic nature of his stuff is undoubtedly influenced by the boys. But in the actual sound, no.

From what i have read and heard in interviews it is Dream Theater

but prior to that Queensryke were often compared to them

Saga - in the 80s made some lists

Alot of canadian bands mention Rush as a huge influence

Pat Travers

Max Webster

Platnum Blonde

Barenaked ladies

Tradgically Hip

Tom Cochrane

Billy talent

Alexisonfire

Triumph

April Wine

to name a few

Even Bryan Adams said something about Rush once in 84

I've always heard the influence in Dream Theater. And Tool tends to show some Rush-influence now and again.

I think Kings X have a strong Rush influence, paricularly in their earlier work.

Just listen to their extensive use of arpeggiated suspended chords with pedal notes, and you immediately think of Lifeson 77-80

One of those bands worships the ground Rush walks on and their drummer compares himself to Rush's drummer constantly.

Most of those others just have small, if any, stylistic influences.

I think the choice is clear.

Dt?

And the prize of the day goes to deadwing2112 for his brilliant logical thinking. trink39.gif

I have to say Primus. Those guys are huge Rush fans.

I agree! Another three piece band who also loves RUSH and they actually did open for them on the "Roll the Bones" Tour.

I would say Dream Theater as well as they also cover Rush songs all the time in their set lists. Has anyone heard Dream Theater cover "Tears?" I believe it is on their first Christmas Club Fan cd. "Tears" is also available in a very limited edition Japanese cd single. It was a giveaway promo if you bought the first pressing of "Awake" with the bonus disc inside. Pretty sweet actually! It goes for 300 clams on eBay. Those Xmas Club cds are worth a lot too.

Too bad it takes five guys to try and sound like only three.

2.gif RULES!
