  1. QUOTE (DustFerret @ Aug 5 2007, 11:45 AM) Saw them in San Diego, the day after the Bowl as well. Awesome show. I really liked Into Eternity. Severe......emotional....distress. Where were you sitting/standing?
  2. Hangin' on this one. Not gunna listen any samples. Will just buy the album wen it arrives....
  3. QUOTE (Cygnalschick @ Aug 1 2007, 12:58 AM) I just found out I'm going to see DT next weekend, as my friend is giving me a free ticket!! Can't wait! I saw them in San Diego the night after Rush at the Bowl. Believe me, you will ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!!!!!!! They are mindblowing live....
  4. FINALLY got round to getting SC. Getting STUCK RIGHT INTO IT! BIG TIME! It's already doing the business for me, after only a few listens. This band continues to produce the goods, album after album, for 2 decades. They have my ongoing admiration, and I cannot WAIT to see 'em in San Diego the night after RUSH at the Hollywood Bowl!
  5. QUOTE (treeduck @ Jun 30 2007, 12:34 AM) Why do people make such a big thing about song lyrics? I mean it's nothing personal with anyone else, Neil just wrote a song, he didn't set out to piss off religious folk. If you hate lyrics to this particular song so much then skip it and pray they don't play it live... I never judge a song on it's lyrics first, if the song sounds good enough musically it's not an issue with me, and I've yet to be offended by a lyric yet. (Though I my eyebrows did raise Spock-like as a 12 year old when my sister blasted out "(Oh Bondage Up Yours" by X-Ray Specs on the stereo back in about 1979) Agree with this 100%
  6. Started off as my favourite song on the album. Still my favourite song on the album.....
  7. I'm still sticking with Freewill, but a case could be mounted for the entire 1st side of 2112. So much so that they have to play it in a different key these days so Geddy can actually sing it!!!
  8. QUOTE (Ancient Ways @ Jun 24 2007, 07:48 PM) QUOTE (Roddy @ Jun 24 2007, 08:33 PM) The bridge part in 'Freewill'. Easily. I think this is it. It's ridiculously high. I think they musta put his bollocks in a vice when he sang that part!!!
  9. Have a couple of their albums. I totally respect them, they are incredibly good at what they do. Haake is a machine. Astounding skill. But their music itself is just way too cold and calculating for me. No melody whatsoever. Can't handle such a total avoidance of melody in the Metal, no matter how amazing they are. Check out a band called 'Mnemic'. Sort of a melodic, 'massive soaring chorus' version of Meshuggah. Just as good musicians, but far catchier....
  10. After roughly 30-40 listens of the album now, 'Faithless' has become my personal front runner for 'best song on S&A' honours atm. It's got a vibe to it that does it for me. Great tune....
  11. They're a pretty good band, I have their last 2 albums. They do what they do extremely well. There's just SOMETHING about them, something I can't actually define, that doesn't QUITE do it for me, the same way that other Metal bands do. In fact it's had me racking my brains to figure it out, but I just can't.... Know what I mean?
  12. Got my tix to the San Diego show last night. Flying from Melbourne to LA on the 21st, seeing RUSH on the 23rd, and DT on the 24th!!!! OMFG!!!! What could be better?!!!!!!!!!

I'm still gunna be in LA after the Rush Hollywood Bowl show for that 1st DT LA show!! They're a bit like Rush, in that they'll NEVER come down here, so I might hafta take this chance and see them while I'm there. Rush and DT in 1 week in LA!!!
  14. Heard their tune on 'The Departed'. Liked it, got the album. They toured here last month, went and checked 'em out. Loved the show, it was such a good, fun gig. Don't think they'd ever become one of my favourite bands (I'm far more into Metal and Prog than Celtic punk!), but they're definitely a great band, and worthy of much respect...
  15. Awesome and funny at the same time! (if there were 2 Omnisciences, I would be both of them!) I just hope people don't hear this as the 1st Devin stuff they hear....
  16. QUOTE (WCFIELDS @ Apr 4 2007, 11:31 PM) Accelerated Evolution is brilliant.......one of my fav albums. If you love that, you'll love the rest of his stuff, although it's all very different...
  17. They're a band I 'threatened' to get into for ages, but never quite did. Love what I've heard of them, though...
  18. QUOTE (treeduck @ Apr 2 2007, 04:00 PM) Here's the cover for the new album... http://www.hevydevy.com/reyne/Z1fltsm.JPG That's typical Dev!!!
  19. Agreed. I've always had equal favourites, but in this poll I give the edga very slightly to FW, with 1984 an extremely close 2nd. I would be next. FW is by far their darkest, heaviest album, but it's just as groovin' and catchy as all the rest. That's why I love it....
  20. Wow, that sounds wild!!!!!! And here I was thinking Dev was on a break!!!!! Gunna grab that when it comes out...
  21. QUOTE (treeduck @ Mar 6 2007, 05:03 AM) QUOTE (Roddy @ Mar 6 2007, 04:59 AM) QUOTE (treeduck @ Mar 6 2007, 04:29 AM) QUOTE (Roddy @ Mar 5 2007, 06:34 PM) 'City' is one of the most extreme albums ever made. If you're after extemities, grab that album! As far as SYL being over, you just never know with Devin. He said words to that effect after City, but then September 11 happened and he got all his anger back. The man suffers from Bi-Polar and other psychological disorders, so sometimes he says things during a down period that turn out not to be the case. The last round of interviews he did he was exhausted from recording/touring and emotional after the birth of his kid, so he was pretty negative about it at that time. Maybe he'll come back from this break he's currently on and be totally refreshed, ready to kick arse with SYL and his DTB stuff again. In fact I'm counting on that! BTW, you'll LOVE AE and OM. Just give them some time to grow on you!!! I might actually go for Terria instead of the SYL for now... Watch out for the track 'Earth Day' on Terria. My all time favourite Devin tune. Just enormous... I'm just about to order it now, whew this is gonna be a Hevy Devy month for treeduck alright... I actually envy you, discovering and hearing Dev's albums for the 1st time!

  24. If you're not a big Metal fan, avoid SYL. They're about as extreme as mainstream Metal gets. If I was you, I'd get my hands on everything Dev's done, solo-wise. Synchestra is indeed a great place to start (but anywhere would be, really!). It depends on your tastes. The most 'organic' thing he's ever done is still probably 'Ocean Machine', and lots of people think this is the best thing he's ever done. His most 'other-worldy' album is undoubtedly the album straight after OM, 'Infinity'. That's my favourite. It's quite simply stunning, and utterly unique. There's nothing on earth that's even vaguely similar in style. Try these 3 first, then move onto Accelarated Evolution and Terria. Possibly avoid 'Physicist', since it strays into SYL territory slightly.
