I was wondering if any of you have memorized the lyrics that Geddy says in the background during the chorus...

Anarchist reactionary running dog revisionist

Hindu muslim catholic creation / evolutionist

Rational romantic mystic cynical idealist

Minimal exp

ressionist post-modern neo-symbolist

Arm chair rocket scientist graffiti existentialist

Deconstruction primitive performance photo realist

I actually have memorized the second half of that.

But I also like that song.

That's okay, I can take it.

When I first got into Rush I remember liking this song. Pretty sure I did have it memorized at one point. But that was twenty something years ago, so I doubt I can remember it now.

I liked the song when it was new but it has evolved into my most disliked Rush tune of all time.

Anyway yeah, I memorized the lyrics back in '91 and they've stuck with me...whether I like it or not. :blaze:

I used to appreciate this song, but not so much anymore.

Yeah, it was cute at the time, but hasn't aged well.

I have just recently memorized them. It was my second biggest lyrical memorization accomplishment (first being "We Didn't Start The Fire" by Billy Joel.)

I've mentioned several times on TRF that YBYL reminds me of that Joel song...which I also dislike.

I like this song, but I've only memorized about half of that.

I found some unused alternate lyrics in a magazine a few years ago. I like them.

Take my love, take my land

Take me where I can not stand

I don't care, I'm still free

You can't take the sky from me

Take me out, to the black

Tell them all I ain't coming back

Burn the land, boil the sea

You can't take the sky from me

I've wondered about a great many things in my life, but I've never once wondered if any of you folks memorized those particular lyrics. Or any other lyrics, for that matter.

You can't be a TrueRushFan™ if you don't have them memorized.

Then I am not a true Rush fan.

Turn that frown upside down because you can still be with just a little work.

I hate the Joel song, and I get the comparison. I don't know why it's different with YBYL.

I'd say you have no idea, but you probably do, how much I love any reference at all to the greatest television show of all time.

If that work means liking the song this thread is talking about, that won't happen.

Then again, I like Heresy and Neurotica.

No no no. You can't be a TrueRushFan™ unless you've wondered if other TRFers have memorized them.

Isn't that a line from "Face Up"?

Worst song on a terrible album. Why would anyone bother?

I almost wrote something similar but I figured I'd be accused of being cranky. :P
