You Bet Your Life Question

I've wondered about a great many things in my life, but I've never once wondered if any of you folks memorized those particular lyrics.

You can't be a TrueRushFan™ if you don't have them memorized.

No no no. You can't be a TrueRushFan™ unless you've wondered if other TRFers have memorized them.

No no no. You can't be a TrueRushFan™ until you can admit they had some shitty songs albums.

fixed

Pardon me, but Neil Ellwood Peart does not perform on any shitty albums.

I have just recently memorized them. It was my second biggest lyrical memorization accomplishment (first being "We Didn't Start The Fire" by Billy Joel.)

I've mentioned several times on TRF that YBYL reminds me of that Joel song...which I also dislike.

Funny, but YBYL always reminded me of the below classic, which relevantly rawks

That's great! It starts with an earthquake,

Birds and snakes, an aeroplane.

Lenny Bruce is not afraid.

Eye of a hurricane, listen to yourself churn.

World serves its own needs, dummy, serve your own needs.

Feed it off an aux speak, grunt, no strength.

The ladder starts to clatter with fear fight, down, height.

Wire in a fire, representing seven games

In a government for hire and a combat site.

Left of west and coming in a hurry

With the furies breathing down your neck

Team by team reporters baffled, trumped, tethered, cropped.

Look at that low playing! Fine, then.

Uh oh, overflow, population, common group

But it'll do. Save yourself, serve yourself.

World serves its own needs, listen to your heart bleed,

Dummy, with the rapture and the rev-'rent and the right, right.

You vitriolic, patriotic, slam, fight, bright light

Feeling pretty psyched.

It's the end of the world as we know it.

It's the end of the world as we know it.

It's the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine.

Six o'clock - TV hour.

Don't get caught in foreign towers.

Slash and burn, return.

Listen to yourself churn.

Locking in uniforming, book burning, bloodletting.

Every motive escalate, automotive incinerate.

Light a candle, light a motive.

Step down, step down.

Watch your heel crush, crushed.

Uh oh, this means no fear, cavalier.

Renegade steer clear!

A tournament, a tournament,

A tournament of lies.

Offer me solutions, offer me alternatives

And I decline.

It's the end of the world as we know it

It's the end of the world as we know it (I had some time alone)

It's the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine (It's time I had some time alone)

I feel fine

It's the end of the world as we know it (It's time I had some time alone)

It's the end of the world as we know it (It's time I had some time alone)

I have a buddy that sings along when it's on the radio. I just stare in amazement when he does that. Like a cat watching a bird.

I think REM are for people that don't like music.

30 somethings with nice jobs and a nice house and little happy family unit in suburbia, with a lovely state of the art stereo.

Except they have no records, so they think of something that they think might be "cool" and buy records by REM, U2, Dido and Sinead O'Connor, for their equally nuclear friends to think they are cutting edge

Perfect music for those who have no idea.

Happy shiny people

Right when I forget that you're full of shit you come back and post something that reminds me that you're full of shit. This is not sarcasm. This is me telling you I think you're full of shit.

I'd suggest the 30 somethings in your example will actually be more like 50 somethings.

I'd also suggest delving a bit deeper into REM than what you'd have heard on top 40 radio in 1991. There's a world of greatness to be discovered...

Exactly.

Happy Shiny People is an example of REM like Superconductor is an example of Rush.

I knew most of the lyrics which I could hear, but I memorize lyrics from hearing them, not reading them. And I couldn't figure out some of what he was saying.

Complete and uttter idiocy.

You obviously have no in depth knowledge of their catalogue at all....their 80s output in particular was outstanding and they have written songs that will be remembered for a long, long time...also their influence was undeniable, I immediately heard it the first time I listened to Nirvana for example.

I'm beginning to think that you are quite a subtle troll......

Hideously embarrassing claptrap......it was crap when it came out and it's crap now.

I hate to say that about anything that Rush did. But it is.

Edit: And I love the rest of Roll the Bones. But not that last song. The record should have ended after nine.

I was wondering if any of you have memorized the lyrics that Geddy says in the background during the chorus...

these-

Anarchist reactionary running dog revisionist

Hindu muslim catholic creation / evolutionist

Rational romantic mystic cynical idealist

Minimal exp

ressionist post-modern neo-symbolist

Arm chair rocket scientist graffiti existentialist

Deconstruction primitive performance photo realist

Be-bop or a one drop or a hip hop lite pop metallist

Gold adult contemporary urban country capitalist

Memorized it when it came out but lost my edge because it was never played live.
