Played four of my favourite albums today: U2- Boy Faith No More- Angel Dust The Smiths- The Queen Is Dead Rush- Roll The Bones RTB is such a precious album to me. If I'm struggling, and I am atm, it's a source of great comfort. I can't think of a way to describe it other than "comfort". One of the most uplifting albums I own, with lyrics that provide food for thought as well as singalongs.5 points

Mastodon- Hushed And Grim Haven't played this in a while. Still a phenomenal album to my ears! The fact I wouldn't call this one of their top four albums is astonishing to me. But such is the value of their discography.2 points

Marvel Studios has lost its mind. There's no going back. You can't bring back Robert Downey, Jr. and expect audiences to forget about Iron Man. Robert Downey, Jr. will always be Iron Man and no one else.1 point

I was watching the cross country horse event and it's quite interesting. A wide variety of jumps and surfaces and the designer made some of the jumps more than just poles. There's a "couch" and "picnic table" and other things to add interest to the event.1 point

Really hoping Dems win this fall. Kamala sucks but I’m not looking for a rollback on most Dem policies. She better be heavily contested at the DNC in 2028.1 point

Those same people thought a performance featuring a person portraying Dionysius was mocking the Last Supper. How do people get so stupid?1 point

What a project that is! A few years back I attempted to scrape and re-paint our very old wood sided house. Built my own scaffolding for the two stories, heat gun with water hose close by, canister mask and gloves, heavy bags of leaded paint scrapings, it took weeks to do two sides until the wood became so bad it was mostly marine epoxy filling before priming. I gave up. We went with vinyl siding (but it's high end!) even though I always mocked it. It was a sad decision but we chose nice colours and had the window trim, roof fascias, vertical corner "posts" with aluminum (spell check wants me to type aluminium) and it turned out pretty good. Kept the soffit brackets even though a few estimates said it's not possible - but when the company that agreed with us said it could be done, we were very happy. It surprised me that using thick "contractor grade" bags, after shovelling in paint scrapings to about a third of the volume of the bag it was very, very heavy. What caught my attention here, goose, was your comment about being glad it wasn't your full time job (still teaching?). I so very much agree. Being a side project is well enough, but to have to contort and crawl and twist limbs to get into corners and such every day for a paycheck, yup, would not be a fun job. Could not pay me enough to do that on house after house. And the weather was such a big factor. Rain? Maybe for a few days? How long to let it dry? Is the fresh coat of primer or paint in full sun by the time you get going? Not a fun experience. I am sure it looks great now, are you happy with the results? Cheers :)1 point

I saw one of these the other day and it's striking. Every time I see the new models I think it's something else because it looks quite a bit more exotic to me.1 point

Hulk Hogan believes the Camacho scene for Idiocracy is a "how to", not a dystopian satire that is disturbingly true. "History will teach us nothing." - Gordon Sumner1 point

Thank you so much, everyone for all of the well wishes! I really appreciate them! Its been a hell of a week with perforated ulcers, peritonitis, surgery and slow to wake up digestion. Thankfully eating jello tonight and solid food tomorrow. Very grateful to my Drs.1 point

I sent my son a birthday card with a VISA gift card in it and he told me when he got it, some of the numbers were scraped off and he couldn't activate it. I compared the receipt that had the last 4 of the account number and they weren't the same as the card he got. Someone in the USPS system stole the card I sent and replaced it with a used one and I know this because I put it in a mail box at the post office and my son saw it put in his mailbox and went out to get it so it was never out of their system. I reported it but expect nothing from that poorly run government system.1 point
