Which song on each Rush album do you think best represents the direction Rush would go in on their next album? Here are my choices: Rush - Before And After (a little dash of prog) FBN - By-Tor And The Snow Dog (extended song structures and composed instrumental sections with conceptual lyrics) CoS - Fountain Of Lamneth (side long song suites) 2112 - Tears (integrates melodic keyboards into the Rush sound) AFTK - Cygnus X-1 Book I: The Voyage (see Cygnus X-1 Book II: Hemispheres) Hems - Circumstances (shorter punchier songs with more integrated synths and real world lyrics) PeW - The Spirit Of Radio (fuller integration of synths and sequencers alongside other instruments plus new wave influences in a shorter package) MP - Vital Signs (all that but more new wave, less prog, and much colder) Signals - The Weapon (Part II Of Fear) (even darker and colder and introducing cold war type paranoia) GuP - Between The Wheels (the totally 80s inspirational chorus with lyrics focused on people's struggle with powers beyond their control) PoW - Emotion Detector (a more human lyrical direction with more emotive licks and melodies) HYF - Tai Shan (experiments with the Rush sound that didn't really go over well) Presto - Anagram (For Mongo) (experiments with wordplay in the lyrics that aren't as deep as they appear) RTB - Ghost Of A Chance (a bit more rock and roll, plus lyrics about... love?!) Counterparts - Between Sun And Moon or Speed Of Love (ah yes, why the sun? and more sub-par lyricism over dull instrumentals) T4E - Driven (driving theme on the verge of a deep dark hole... eerily forbidding) VT - ...nothing! I believe little from VT carried over to S&A, and I believe it's because Feedback provided inspiration instead S&A - Far Cry (looking into Rush's golden period to recapture some of the old magic in a great new song) CA - once again... nothing... except that The Garden sounds exactly like the end of the band, which is in fact what came next.4 points

Not today but after the board went down. Megadeth: Killing Is My Business Peace Sells Spotify has the 25th anniversary reissue of Peace Sells and the bonus disc is a live show recorded in Cleveland in 1987. It was cool to give that a listen. Even back then Mustaine would just have the crowd sing the chorus for Peace Sells. So, that goes all the way back to when they first toured for the album. I like learning little fun facts like that.4 points

I like Eliminator a lot, but I'd still take the other two over it. I prefer the real drums.2 points

Eliminator gets a bit old in the second half. Tres Hombres and Deguello don’t have such weaknesses.2 points

Yes, it had been lagging for a long while, but something happened on Feb. 26th that started a fast and drastic downturn in performance. The normal maintenance measures weren't fixing whatever this was, so we had to try different measures, which so far seem to have worked. You NEVER press the RED Button!!2 points

It's been two days of this: :rage: :scared:  :banghead:  :boohoo: :boo hiss:   And now, We had some major database errors to fix, and it wasn't going swimmingly, but I think it's okay now. I think. Any threads or posts that were made early yesterday did not survive, like hi_water's latest poll in MoTS. This is the board as we knew it on Wednesday night.1 point

I'd like to take the opportunity on here to pay tribute to another Rush forum, www.t-n-m-s.com which went offline for good last week after almost 20 years, following the very sad and untimely passing of moderator Stewart Gilray. T-N-M-S was an excellent online community for mainly European Rush fans, which succeeded the Spirit Of Rush fanzine. In recent years there was an understandable decline in activity as the band ceased operating, but a lot of quality material was posted there through the decades and it's a real shame to lose it all :(1 point

What's this one, I'm just getting a blank? So am I now! Maybe something to do with the system being down over the last day or so? I think it was 'Isn't It Romantic'1 point

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P0RpKilqAnc Thank you! That was pretty awesome! Although I couldn't tell if Neil just looked like Neil usually, or if he looked a little nervous to be playing on a Who song! :) I put a different version in at first but the uploader doesn't allow embedding on other sites. I hate that crap! I was able to see it ok!1 point

I've picked R30 as well. Rio is last and S&A Live in 2nd. This might change though.1 point
-
I picked R30 as the best, because I really enjoy the energy in it, almost more than the song lineup. (Can't really beat R40 for song lineup, but the guys were older.) Second was Time Machine, because I like Moving Pictures so well. Some of the songs live, like The Camera Eye, are just really really well done. I picked both though, because I had to pick something. Really they could be tied with Rush in Rio (talk about energy!) and R40, I really like those as well. You could move any one of the 4 into first and second place and I would go with that as well. Clockwork Angels live and Snakes and Arrows live never really grabbed me, although I am one of the few here that enjoy the S & A studio version a lot.1 point

That's just temporary, needed to deny access to guests while I repaired the database so all the spambots wouldn't keep trying to look at stuff. Will change that back in a bit. Thank you for your hard work!1 point

So before the streets start emptying in Chelsea tonight, :coy: let's go and invite you once again to - Shoot The Poof! We interrupt this thread to apologise for this unwarranted attack by the Chelsea owner. Luckily, we have been prepared for this eventuality, and are now taking steps to remedy it. :bang bang: MEANWHILE AT A CHECKPOINT ON THE RUSSO-POLISH BORDER... :bang bang: Because ... Zelensky ... was ... too ... clever for... the Russian ... fleet.  One hundled and thilty-six men of wal. Er, well they fell nearly thirty-nine miles but it's not really so remarkable as that was due to their combined weight, of course. I know, I know. There's a bale of hay outside Basingstoke. We could throw you out. :ebert:1 point

Dream Theater - Distance Over Time Oh this grew back on me again. Guess I just needed a break from it and some more time with AVFtTOTW to remind me how stellar this one is. I can hear now the songs that were already hinting at A View, but most of all I love the melodic richness of this whole album… and that breathtaking midsection in Fall Into The Light.1 point

Your first time logging in after the shutdown will hang up a little as pages and images are getting cached. Plus, the board is archiving some old threads right now, so periodically we'll see a brief but major slowdown (maybe even a 404 error message) as it takes a handful threads off of the main database and moves them onto a different one. If you happen to log in when it's in the middle of that task, you'll see a slow loading time for a bit. I'm going to take the archiving process really slowly so we're not constantly seeing those slowdowns all day every day. Just came back on and it loaded up right away. Thanks for all the work to get things fixed. Yes, big thank you, 73, for doing all that you do.1 point

Just got a 404. We're not out of the woods quite yet, but I have a feeling the archiving process is going to hang up the board from time to time.1 point

I think I have that whole Big Cypress show on CD still, somewhere. It was burned TAO, which prevented me from enjoying listening to it very much. But it is just an unbelievable show. It’s seven discs long. An amazing event! I have three versions of Big Cypress show. My buddy's are in Mexico now seeing Phish.1 point
