Great game between Germany and Ghana today indeed! I may have my issues with FIFA and with Brazil being the host, but football-wise this has been one of the best WCs so far. By the way, what's the difference between a teabag and England? A teabag lasts longer in a cup!7 points

Sorry you're going through a crappy time. Have you tried listening to really loud, really angry music? It sometimes helps me when I'm feeling that way. Live vicariously through others, so to speak. ABBA or Toto might do the trick.... BTW Can we get back to the boobs at some point? Here's a pair for ya...http://theflyingcameldotorg.files.wordpress.com/2012/05/bush-obama.jpg4 points

"Is it that you couldn't adapt yourself to another aspect of the band? Or was it something more than that?" I was a junior in HS and Rush was easily my favorite band (had been since AFTK). Signals didn't thrill me except for Analog Kid (still one of my favorites). Wasn't the keyboards as I was soon to get into bands like OMD, Front 242, Skinny Puppy, New Order, etc., just didn't think the songs were that great. Didn't help that it didn't sound like PeW and MP, but if it had been great I wouldn't have minded. Liked GUP a lot but wasn't happy that it was going further from what Rush had been. By the time PoW came out I was neck deep in post punk, garage punk, industrial, etc., and didn't even buy the album. HYF sealed the deal. Completely lost interest for years to the point when I met a fan of post-MP Rush I would think "poor, pitiable soul; they must have never been exposed to good music; I must feign interest so that their delicate psyche isn't harmed." My thinking is that Rush went from being the best power trio/prog metal band on the planet to being pretty lame at styles done better by many many other bands. Even now I like only a handful of tracks total from PoW through T4E, though I do now at least see why people can like those a lot, it's just not my thing. "Is there nothing post-Signals that you like?" I like VT and on, though I don't think the songwriting touches PeW and MP. But, they would make me Rush fans even if I had never heard their early stuff, whereas PoW through T4E would have the opposite effect.2 points

22 June 2014 Sunday Madagascar Hissing Cockroach This insect looks—and sounds—like anything but a run-of-the-mill roach. Madagascar hissing cockroaches are one of many fascinating animal species to hail from the island of Madagascar. These cockroaches are shiny brown and oval-shaped, with no wings and a single pair of antennae. Males sport large horns, which give them an unusual and impressive appearance. Males use their horns in aggressive encounters reminiscent of battles between horned or antlered mammals. Rivals ram one another with their horns (or abdomens) and during the fight often unleash the amazing hisses that give the animal its name. Winning roaches hiss more than losers, so the sounds may be used to help determine a roach hierarchy. Hissing is also part of the cockroach's mating ritual, and can be used as an effective alarm cry. Most insects that make noise do so by rubbing their body parts together or by employing vibrating membranes. Madagascar hissing cockroaches, however, exhale air through their breathing holes. This audible use of the respiratory system is far more common in vertebrates. Like 99 percent of all cockroach species, Madagascar hissing cockroaches are not pests and do not inhabit human dwellings. These insects live on forest floors, where they hide amidst leaf litter, logs, and other detritus. At night, they become more active and scavenge for meals, feeding primarily on fruit or plant materials. The Madagascar hissing cockroach even begins its life in an unusual manner. Females create a cocoon-like egg case called an ootheca and carry their eggs (and neonatal nymphs) inside their bodies. They then bear living young—as many as 60 nymph roaches. http://i.imgur.com/E1aqUxR.jpg http://i.imgur.com/YX4NuF8.jpg http://i.imgur.com/osC41sW.jpg http://i.imgur.com/FlZ6k5c.jpg http://i.imgur.com/XsYf56t.jpg http://i.imgur.com/DXx0GvP.jpg They can be yours for only $3.00 each. The second half of Germany / Ghana was EPIC. Four goals, and loads of chances. What a thrill ride. Messi's left foot is also epic.2 points

That last minute Messi Goal was insane. I thoroughly enjoy watching such a great player. I was to young to appreciate Pele, and in no way am I putting Messi in that spot but I do enjoy watching him play.2 points

No no, I don't buy that. Would you make fun of or degrade someone because they were black/Chinese/handicapped? Hopefully not, because that is a sort of prejudice/hatred. So, remove the word "fat" from any given sentence and replace it with "black," for example, to see it the sentence remains respectful. "That man is black."--Sure, there's nothing wrong with that. "That black man shouldn't wear a speedo."--Now it doesn't sound so good. I disagree - black men are usually good candidates for Speedos. Or so I hear. ;)2 points

I mentioned this in other threads here - my issue with Brazil being the host is that we have terrible health system, public safety and education are at an all time low, and instead of improving all those areas, the government decided to spend billions of taxpayer's money to host a WC.2 points

I was picked on countless times and bullied as a child. I was small and weak and "they" knew it. I can't remember the last time I was picked on but I will never, ever intentionally hurt someone with words or otherwise. A few folks have said mean things to me since adulthood but I never return their meanness or insults. I always try to be nice back and this throws them off their game and defuses everything typically.....2 points

Some years ago I realized I was becoming a very negative person. There were some things that happened in my life to jar me out of that, and since then I have been trying very hard to stay positive and just be a nice person. I'm certainly not perfect, but one thing I don't like to do is make fun of others. (Much of my youth was spent being the one others made fun of, simply because they thought I was different.) I know what that feels like and I don't want others to feel that way. And that's what it all comes down to here.2 points

Horrible Wal basses, obviously you know nothing about what makes a good bass guitar and good tone, they are incredible instruments, each one hand built with the best woods and crafted to perfection! It's a shame Geddy has stayed with Fender for so long and has to put his bass through endless effects to get the tone that he desires but most of us think is unnecessarily harsh and brittle! Excuse me? I believe I'm entitled to my own opinion here. I don't like the Wal basses because of their tone, and saying that I don't like them doesn't mean I'm uneducated on the subject of bass guitars. I like the Fenders and the Rickenbacker. While I respect your opinion on the Wal basses, don't discredit me because I don't share that same opinion. Thank you.2 points

You're missing a pretty big point here: a person cannot help it if they are black/chinese/disabled (handicapped is so un-PC now.) But being fat is something (usually) that can be helped, or rather is something that people should have control over.2 points

I think part of the problem is that their music seemed more mainstream. A lot of the elements of 80s music were creeping into their songs. Thin percussive style guitar parts instead of the heavy in-your-face crunchy solo laden epics we'd had before. The keyboards were taking over and the guitar was pushed to the background. It was sort of like Metallica playing country music. A bit of a shock to the system.2 points

Without Panacea, maybe! I love Bacchus Plateau, though. :o Uh-oh. That's all right. I don't take it seriously and honestly think it is funny. We are all so different. Having Xanadu in common makes up for any differences, anyway. And there are probably many more. What about Different Strings (the song, I mean, not our differences of opinion)? I love Permanent Waves and I love that song.2 points

So true. I find it really important as well to remember that its better to try and think nice towards people who treat you bad, for fear of becoming just as negative as them. Hard...but if you want love to dominate it should be the quality you seek to display! People with weight problems often hate themselves mire than you realise. They are hard enough on themselves and do not need anyone else to join in! Very true. I have found it to be true that being kind back even when the person is being mean to you defuses them. You have in essence removed their ammunition for them. Its fun and it seems to work. If you are confident that you are the better person than why stoop to their level. I have done it on this forum. I refuse to insult back and forth. I won't go there. It's silly and goes nowhere.... Shut up Narpski. Jk jk! Lol but yeah, I have also done it on this forum (although it is true I rant and rave every now and then! But not quite on the level of, say, the much missed Hobo73). You're just calling it like you see it! :P He certainly is. Segue in the house.... :cheers:1 point

I grew up in the New York City metropolitan area, and they were always being played on the FM stations in the early eighties. But not everyone liked them. In my circle of friends, I was the only one. The only album of theirs that I had was the one that had "Wishing" on it. I forget if that was their debut album or not. Loved their sound.1 point

PoW was when I started to lose interest. I love p/g and while I didn't love Signals the way I had loved everything back through 2112 it was still a great album. But the records from PoW to S&A just weren't all that appealing, though recently I've learned to like PoW and HYF, and love VT. IMO, CA is a classic harkening back to the halcyon days, and their live shows have always been sublime.1 point

I'm most of the way through it. Some new (for me) stuff about their parents' history, some interesting reflections on various songs, good information about gear (instruments used in various tours as well as amplification and lighting rigs), and lots of critiques of the various concert videos. I'm trying to think what else has stood out . . . a chapter on the remix of vapor trails, a chapter on Neil Peart's writing. Over all, not too much of a rehash of stuff you find in the last few Rush books by Popoff and Collins. Worth picking up, I think (but I have to say the choice of cover photograph makes me shudder a bit). I will add, as well, that Mobley sort of has a way of making you want to watch all the videos again—he's obviously a fan!1 point
