Being handsome is more than physical appearance for me. It is having respect for your partner, a great sense of humor, wonderful taste in music, being kind, considerate and loving. I think you guys are more handsome than you may give yourselves credit. We ladies on TRF are lucky! We get to converse with some pretty cool guys! Cheers, frippy5 points

I've always enjoyed that song! I for one enjoy every single one of Rush's albums. There's not a certain period I don't like. Every period has something unique and awesome about it!3 points

It just occurred to me that this musical goddess doesn't even have her own thread here, so I guess I shall start one as she has been such an inspiration to me and to women around the world. Anyone else here love her music? Almost made me cry. For such a private man, for him to write like this - out of the three, we know the most about him - isn't that ironic? Not to me, shy people tend to let it out more when they're not face to face with someone. That's why we get so much writing from this guy.. I don't know that he really is that shy. And how many times has he said in interviews that his private life is private, and that the fans don't own him? I just find it odd that he would tell us so much. Too bad he can't tolerate us, because I would love to talk to him. He is well read, obviously very intelligent, and I would love to hear why he thinks the way he thinks about many things. Ya maybe social anxiety is a better description than simple shyness. Ever see him giving a speech or accepting an award? Sometimes he's hard to look at because he's so bloody uncomfortable! I know this feeling and I don't know how he manages to get through it! It's the same kind of anxiety trigger as meeting fans who shower him with praise. He's said it himself. "Extroverts will never understand introverts" this couldn't be truer. Also "I can't pretend a stranger is a long awaited friend". He's not just saying he has no time for fans.. He's saying He "CAN'T pretend.." Meaning he just doesn't know how.. It's not that he can't tolerate us, it's that he simply does not know how to tolerate they way we often act.. That said Lorraine, I bet Neil would love to chat with you if you could somehow think of him as an equal. ..Isn't that ironic? ;) What u guys fail to realize is that "Can't pretend" sentiment was expressed over three decades ago, and so many things have changed. Its not shyness or introversion at this stage. Its a brazen form of selfishness cloaked as these things. Wrong. He's said many, many times how painfully introverted he is. Your remark is a great example of the cultural bias against introversion.2 points

And again, LIX, is there's one thing I hate is this supposed "guilty complex" strategy. People "fun pat each other on the back" ALL THE TIME here. Be it about Rush, or Kiss, or Van Halen or Atheism. The ones who don't agree with that, the wise ones, just sit back. How come everyone is representing Goobs like a poor, shy, abused, sensitive guy now? He's got an ego the size of Jupiter, for Jesus sake!!! So, because he posts like he has an ego... you're allowed to post personal items about him that he did not share publicly? On a public forum? Nobody said poor, abused, shy - any of those things. If someone acted like a stalker on a public forum, I would stay the hell away too. I couldn't tell you what ILSnwdog posted last month about a subject - and he's my closest friend on this site. We have hung out, we have met each other's families... but some of the things you post about Goobs crosses the line. Nothing I can say will make you see that if you refuse to step back and look at this objectively. Excuse me, but you're jumping from argument to argument like a squirrell. I DID NOT post anything personal about Goobs simply because... I DO NOT KNOW ANYTHING PERSONAL about the guy!!!! And the same goes for Lorraine and Substance. If you're referring to the personal information that was justly erased from the other thread, it was dropped here casually, many weeks ago, by a non-regular reader, I cannot remember whom for the life of me. Might be even be you. And then it became public knowledge, but NO REGULAR CONTRIBUTOR HERE leaked the info! So, in the name of objectivity, whom you hold so dear, maybe you should make your point more... how should I put it, precise? It's too easy to go all "I meant this, no wait I meant that". If the pietra dello scandalo is Goob's personal information leaked, I condemn it solemnly and firmly. But then again, I dare you to go back all these pages and find Goob's personal info in any of the post made by me, Lorraine, Substance and Tombstone. I dare you. I mean it. I am of the understanding that the info that was posted in the closed thread in Rush is not contained in this thread. At least, that was the case until substance re-posted it a few minutes ago. (Not speaking for LIX, just giving my position on that subject.) I confirm: it HAS been posted here, but as I said, as a drop-by wisecrack comment by someone who is not a regular poster. I didn't even pay attention to it. Go back some pages (many pages) and you should be able to find it.1 point
-
Just to add, in fairness to what substancewithoutstyle said up there, I probably should read this whole thread. That's a daunting task, though. Read it in the evening —after you've had a few glasses of Scotch. Honestly, I don't know what LIX is talking about when he says that we're revealing personal info.......(content deleted) Is this verboten? Will this post be deleted because I mentioned it? :o1 point

I am of the opinion that this thread should NOT be closed, in case you guys think I'm leaning that way. Regardless of what I think of the content and whether Goobs likes it or not, there's nothing "illegal" going on in here that I've seen that requires admin intervention (however, if there's more overly personal content in here that I have yet to see, that could change things). The personal post in the other thread in the Rush section, plus the fact that it was turning into a duplicate of this thread, made that thread a candidate for closure. I think Goobs, if he's indeed bothered by this thread, can simply ignore it upon his return. I, and LIX today, merely made our feelings known about what we thought about this thread and how it might be affecting another member of this board, and we wanted to see what YOU guys thought about that.1 point

The Colonel doesn't think we're nice people, Luigi. :bang bang: He's worked his fingers to the bone to make this place what it is, and you come in with your petty feeble quibbling and you grind him into the dirt! Oh, and, ehm, throw him to the floor, sir? then he loses his temper and nails my head to the floor. Oh my goodness. I do beg your pardon. How dreadful. The first day in my new parish, I completely...so sorry. As it turned out our chance meeting with Reverend Arthur Belling was to change our whole way of life, and every Sunday we'd hurry along to St Loony up the Cream Bun and Jam. Brucie has personally converted ninety-two people. Twenty-five inside the distance. Then again we're not afraid to use more modern methods. :martini: It's all bloody marvelous. It makes you want to throw up. :spitwater: Better get a bucket. I'm gonna throw up. Conquistador Coffee brings a new meaning to the word vomit. Now I did ask for tea. :tsk: The best we could manage was to suck on a piece of damp cloth. :codger: They must think the sun shines out o' your arse, sonny.1 point

Well....I will throw out a set list here. If this is for the longtime hardcores......it really is not so much about the deep cuts...it's about playing their strongest material.....top to bottom and throwing in a few deep nuggets. In all fairness they have reached into the vault a lot for us the last several tours. I have seen so many killer tunes from the 80's which is where I think their best material lies anyway. So here we go....no new record....just a lot of great old fashioned Rush for a massive 41st anniversary tour. Set one Working Man 2112 Complete Leave That Thing Alone A Farewell To Kings Closer To The Heart The Trees Xanadu Set Two Tom Sawyer Red Barchetta Subdivisions Distant Early Warning Freewill Show Don't Tell Dreamline Animate The Enemy Within YYZ Headlong Flight Jacobs Ladder Force 10 The Weapon Driven Limelight Encore The Spirit of Radio Big Money La Villa Strangiato1 point

Saw a documentary on national television about a bombing raid on the Shell House in Copenhagen during WWII. The first wave of bombers hit the target, but because one bomber went down over the city, the next two waves of bombers believed the smoke from the crashed plane was the target, which led to the unfortunate bombing of a school, killing 86 children, and injuring around 120 people. Crazy fact: The Shell House was the Gestapo headquarter in Copenhagen, and because of their fear of being bombed, they put their prisoners up on the roof to deter the british from bombing. The danish resistance movement deemed it necessary so they gave green light. Crazy enough most of the prisoners of the building got out alive. We're talking a 5-6 story building. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/30/Shellhuset_from_KB.jpg1 point

Seems to me that you're the one picking the fight… you came into a thread about a tribute band, knowing that you are philosophically opposed them, to "offer" a scathing opinion of how bad you think they sound. Why bother? Secondly, you didn't just casually state your opinion, you essentially told the guy you think he is silly and ridiculous for doing and working hard at something he enjoys doing, and continued to tell him what he SHOULD be doing instead. Maybe your words weren't intended as harshly as they sound… but they sound a bit overly critical and authoritarian to me. But then again, this is just my opinion.1 point
