Two guys with powerful guitars from Canada.
In your opinion, can Emmett COMPETE with Lifeson?

IMO a band Triumph is not in the same league with Rush, but Emmett IS in the same league with Lerxst. I definitely prefer Lifeson's playing, but as a guitarist and musician Rik can compete with him anytime!

AND THIS IS NOT A QUESTION OF PREFERENCE(I hope you'll know it) !!!   :)

Rik Emmett is my favorite guitar player ever. He is definitely on the same league as Alex.

Yes and no. Rik is probably technically better and more versatile in terms of being able to play different styles of music. Lifeson has better more memorable songs, riffs, solos and other guitar parts.

Put in an electric in each guy's hands, and it's too close to call. Put an acoustic in each guy's hands, and Rik blows Alex out of the water.

I think you’re measurably better than Rik.

I wonder if Rik smoked more weed whether he'd start to sound like Alex.

next question.

Should be the other way around. Emmett outshines Alex.

Yeah Just A Game's a really fine album and no doubt Rik can play but please...

Alex is simply the most imaginative artist of his particular instrument there'll ever be. In my view only Brian May can remotely compare. Tony Lommi pretty cool. One or two others very interesting obvs. But it'll never get better than Al.

Damn fine album Just A Game though

In the same league certainly.

But the Browns are in the same league as the Patriots.

They both would say they're in the same league, and I'd agree.

It's like comparing Maryann and Ginger.

I wouldn't kick either out of bed.

....but then again I'm not picky.

No. Tossing a classical guitar piece on an album full of cheesy arena rock tunes doesn't make one great.
