edhunter
I have 1 shirt I got for 10 bucks from a hustler outside Boston last June. No f***in way was I paying $40 at the merch desk. I also got 1 shirt from Alex in 2010 and 1 from Neil's cannon in 2013, both of which I gave away.

Fordgalaxy
Fan- Enjoys Rush music, Has attended a few, or more, concerts, knows the band members names...Fanatic- Knows the band members birthdays, wive's names (and birthdays), children's names (and birthdays)... I'd add: Fanboy - one who thinks everything Rush has released is outstanding and can't handle people who (rightly) believe otherwise.
lifeson90
always a fanatic for a good while after new album release, then the fanatacism tends to die down a bit and i get into other stuff, until Rush bring another new album out. right now i'm obviously just a huge fan. really is about time our guys pumped some new stuff out. new drummer or no. toymaker
Can we be scientific about this? Assign a score to each criterion? Owns every album = 5 points / owns multiple copies of every album = 10 points / buys one copy to play and one to keep nice = 100 points . . . etc.
Lucas
Does anyone paint the Hemispheres album artwork on their face?? :o Do you know someone who does it????? I've been searching for someone who could do it. :smoke:Finding someone with a naked guy on their face is pretty easy to find. What kind of strip clubs are you going to JB ??
robertrobyn
What is the line a Rush fan has to cross before they become a fanatic? How many attended Rush concerts make one a fanatic? Does owning everything bearing a Rush logo make one a fanatic? Im not sure about owning everything but Iam sure trying!!!

Lost In Xanadu
I'm a fan, definitely not a fanboy (or fanboi) and I agree there isn't much of a line between fan and fanatic seeing fan is just the shortening of the word fanatic :) I did hear Xanadu ON THE RADIO a few days ago and after the surprise of it being on the radio wore off, I actually got a little sad thinking I will likely never see them play this one again (other than in old video)

I can see buying a deluxe edition for unreleased material, but not 2 copies of 2112 just because.

Lorraine
It seems to me to be an obsession. I've never loved any band in my entire life to that extent, and I thought the first time I saw the Moody Blues in 1971 that I was seeing Jesus Incarnate on stage. But there's a common sense limit to everything. After all, these men don't even know I exist. Nor do most want to know (not mentioning any names of those who run away from the fans who support and enable them to live comfortable lifestyles). Why should they or any band consumer my life and thoughts? And income. But that's just me. We are all different. And common sense often doesn't exist when obsession is involved.

Besides, it is the creative output that causes us to be whatever degree of fans that we are. It doesn't have anything to do with merchandise. Not even rare picture discs, or half-speed masters (as tempting as they may sometimes be). :P
catherine
I have a t-shirt, I've seen them live, and have all official studio and live releases. I've never paid for a bootleg. What does that make me? A fan since you said "a t-shirt" which leads to me believe you only own one. I have five. :)What about multiple versions of each album? I have at least three or four of each album and 7 t shirts I think? And don't forget the shoelaces, I have those too. :rush: So yes, that counts. You're in as far as I am concerned.
