I don't know what the expectations are for the Yankees this year except all I know is that they overachieved last season. I hope you guys at least keep it competitive since the Jays still look great and the Red Sox made some moves in the pitching staff.

I have a feeling that that division will be the NFC East of baseball. Overhyped and mediocre to execrable.

 

Overhyped? The NFC East is a cellpool - I dont know of anyone, except maybe Chris Christie, who has said otherwise. :)

 

I think the Jays will still be good. They lost Price to the Red Sox but barring injuries, Jays pitching should still be good now that Stroman's back and they signed J.A. Happ who came off a great season with the Bucs. Their bats are probably still going to be good. Red Sox right now are in "prove it" mode for me. They blew a shitload of money onto Price, we'll see if it works out or if it's just gonna be a team full of fat old roided men.

 

NL Central is probably going to be the bloodbath again this year. Cubs are the favorites, Cards are the Cards, and the Bucs might still be good despite losing Burnett and Happ.

 

Apart from the Cubs the team I'm most curious about is the Nats. That organization needed a serious house cleaning and I wanna see them bounce back.

 

Outside of the Cubs, who else is expected to be really strong?

MLB is better when the Phils are good. Or at least better than the Nationals.

Oh man....I have been doing baseball research for quite a while now....so pumped - some pitchers and catchers report tomorrow.

 

Regarding the Pirates - Losses were Neil Walker, AJ Burnett and JA Happ.

 

To me- the team will be just as strong this year- that doesnt mean we will win 98 games, there is an element of chance.

 

1. Burnett went down toward end of season- he was pretty strong in first half, but not a huge loss. Glasnow will be called up at some point, and has higher upside.

 

2. Happ was a typical Pirate reclamation project- I expect him to regress in Toronto. Niese will essentially replace the void that Happ filled, if not be an improvement. Happ was lights out, but only started 11 games for the pirates.

 

3. Walker will be missed - but Kang really figured it out in the 2nd half prior to the injury. As per the norm- 1st base will continue to be a platoon C.F...so no way it can get any worse.

As far as room for regression goes - the biggest area we could regress is in the bullpen. We have had some great luck there- even with the same core in place, we might not perform as well. However- watch out for Neftali Feliz- he has been a head case, but the pirates turn guys like him around all the time. He has closer quality arsenal, and is in his prime (27 years old). Would not be surprised if he became a dominate setup man and posted a low 2/high 1 ERA.

 

I think 2016 will be a good year for the pirates...probably win around 90 games, and make the playoffs. 2017 is the year I think we could breakout and make a World Series push.

 

2017- Marte and Polanco will be peaking- McCutchen still in prime. Glasnow will be ready for a full season, as well as maybe Tallion, Niese still in rotation. Who knows, the pirates might even sign a big FA pitcher! (yeah right...I guess you never know)
