Diana Taurasi is closer to my age than she is to Caitlin Clark's!  One is part of the future of women's basketball, and the other probably knew James Naismith.

At 41yo, she should have had the class to step aside.  Shows what a self-absorbed sn@tch she really is.

I truly believe this is a horrible move in terms of moving the sport forward.  The narrative that the WNBA has been putting up a quality product for 25 years is horseshit.  And, relative to the men's game, women's international basketball is no better.  I guess time - and ratings - will tell.

Supposedly some of the more experienced players are saying Clark's fans would not be happy if she didn't get much playing time and that's why she was selected.

As WNBA megastar Lisa Leslie said back in April,  “I don’t know how you leave the country without her"

Like I said, we'll see how it works out.

They'll still be prohibitive favorites.  And they'll save on an extra room since Caitlin probably won't want a roommate.

Wise move to eliminate any possibility of playing time issues, since it is 100% certain that no one will give a shit about how many minutes any of these other players get

It would be hilarious if for their first press conference after landing in Paris if all the questions were about Clark.

You must remember, Caitlin is standing on the shoulders of giants.

(giants whose existence for decades has relied on NBA subsidies due to total lack of public interest in their product)

Nowhere on Clark and the Olympics:

"What mostly pays for the Olympics — oh wait — revenue generated from broadcasting partners. As in TV. As in Caitlin is TV GOLD. Opportunity wasted."

Posted

As far as tge Womens Olympic Team situation goes, this tweet sums it up:

"Diana Taurasi is 42 years old will be going for her sixth gold medal this summer. She can also stroll down any street in America today unrecognized. How lucky was the WNBA that Caitlin Clark’s rookie year was an Olympic year? Too petty to capitalize."

Potential Team USA jersey sales alone made including Clark a no-brainer

Is anyone else watching the Finals?  I'm having a hard time getting into it.

At least we have the halftime show with Stephen A. to entertain us.  On the other hand, that's why the fast toward function was created.

So far in the series, Mavs just can't keep it going against the Celtics.  Luca's back tap turnover was a key momentum shift.  Just the briefest bit of offensive laziness was like blood in the water for Boston

No, I'm just following Goose's recaps! Running the risk of accidentally listening to Stephen A. is simply too great.

Not a chance, I have too much auto racing taped (Nascar, Indy Car, and NHRA), and I don't have that basketball jones.

I never thought that made any sense. Why would anyone want to leave that job to take that job?

To be top of mind for Stephen A. Smith (and everyone else at ESPN) 24/7?

To bring out the untapped talent in Bronny James?

Stephen A Smith laying down the truth re: Clark & the Olympics...

Smith believes that while the 12 players on the roster are deserving, Clark's presence could amplify the power of the women's basketball brand.

ESPN basketball analyst Andraya Carter disagreed with the notion, believing players should be chosen based on merit. Stephen A. challenged back with a response on what he believes to be the reality of the situation.

"Marketing matters. It's how you get paid. If you don't know that, you better hear me, and hear me good. I am telling you right now, you are going to be underpaid for the rest of what I believe will be an illustrious career unless you get your mind right about that marketing. It matters."

Team USA doesn't need the best 12 WNBA players to win the gold medal.  Ten would do just fine.  But women need Clark on the stage right now, if they hope to close the pay gap at all.  I hope those writing about how Clark has been rightly left off the roster because others are better and more deserving (see the WashPost article) will at least have the grace to shut up about pay.  That's the trade off they're making.

Celtics rolling the Mavs in game 3's second half.  :notworthy:

Though some are wanting to dismiss reports of anti-Caitlin sentiment as a media-generated narrative,  evidence continues to suggest otherwise.  Sure enough, weeks-old tweets from women's Olympic coach Cheryl Reeve include tags like #12teams and #theWismorethanoneplayer.  The league clearly has issues.

Can I hope for the brooms to be pulled out?  It would be great to win it at home but I want to win it.  Want to hang that banner up.  So I want this series OVER.  The longer it goes the more a chance of a major injury or a choke.  I will take a win on the road because then we will have #18 (take that LA Fakers!!).  I grew up in the 1970's and 1980's a Celtic fan and since 1986 (the greatest team in NBA history IMO) its been a long drought (with 1 exception and some close calls).  So I want the brooms pulled out.  Lets go Celtics!!!!

In Hockey and Basketball the prelims were great.  The finals have sucked.
