goose
The latest chapter in How The WNBA Killed Its Golden Goose: "Indiana has had the toughest schedule to start the season, playing 11 games in 20 days, more than any other team. In contrast, the Las Vegas Aces, the current champions, have only played six games." Clark scored only 3 pts, and Fever's #2 player Boston went out with an ankle injury after a hard foul in a 104-68 NY-Indiana blowout. As coach Sides noted, "Their legs were shot. I mean, that's where everything stems from, your legs, when you shoot the basketball -- especially for 3s," Sides said. "They're shot, they're gassed, so everything was a little short." The upside? Record crowds and merch sales, and Clark's stats for her first ten games are rivaled only by rookie stats of Sabrina Ionescu

No one comes to see someone who only brings 3 pters to the game, they're there to see lunchpail players--winning players--like Chennedy Carter.

Three teams in four years, (with two stints in Turkey!) racks up an amazing 12.7 pts, 2 reb, 2.7 asst per game. Bring THAT to the table, Caitlin! There was that point late when Dallas cut the lead to 8pts, forced a miss, but then failed to grab a pretty easy rebound. That was the end, cuz Boston went on a crazy run after that. Still, you gotta love the second half fight that Dallas brings. How good was Boston's defense?!?
goose
Fever wins a close one tonight, 85-83 over the Mystics. Clark, who, as noted often by the media, is still in that rookie adjustment period, has to settle for 30 pts, 9 reb, 6 asst.
BastillePark
There isn't a WNBA thread, for understandable reasons, but why was Caitlin Clark left off the women's Olympic team? She's about the only reason so many more people are watching their games. In the last day or 2 her team played the team with Angel Reese that haven't won a game and they had the biggest WNBA crowd in 17 years. It's crazy of the people choosing team members to not choose her.

This is a rare opportunity for women's basketball and I'm surprised by any passed up opportunity to capitalize

So far in 2024 Clark is averaging one more steal, two more rebounds, and five more assists than Taurasi. Clark also leads in points by .5, with a recent game where she scored 3 pts. Nova Carmina
Diana Taurasi is closer to my age than she is to Caitlin Clark's! One is part of the future of women's basketball, and the other probably knew James Naismith. Given the fact they could win Olympic gold with a third-string team, this is not a choice based on competitiveness, so it makes me wonder what the hell is going on.

TBH, it's probably better for her to not get it. The jealousy meter would be off the charts when she got the vast majority of the attention on the world stage the only time the rest of the world cares about the sport (on the women's side.) I truly believe this is a horrible move in terms of moving the sport forward. The narrative that the WNBA has been putting up a quality product for 25 years is horseshit. And, relative to the men's game, women's international basketball is no better. I guess time - and ratings - will tell.
