How focused are WNBA teams on containing Caitlin Clark?  In May already, in on-ball screens she'd been blitzed/doubled 57 times this season, more than any other TEAM, let alone any other player.

Lmao!

10pts, 19 rebounds.  IT'S ANOTHER DOUBLE DOUBLE!

Sounds like me in 8th grade basketball.

Not the pros, but the worst defense against a possible game winning plan I've ever seen.

The caption:  "One of the greatest plays in Gamecock history"

Depends what side of the ball you're on, I suppose.  The defensive strategy seemed to be to defend the impossibly long backdoor lob pass for the tie and not worry too much about the direct pass to the top of the arc for the potential game-winner.

In fairness, Cardoso had never made a 3-pointer before

Two of the WNBS's top teams faced off with the Connecticut Sun taking on the Minnesota Lynx.  It was a low-scoring defensive battle, which made it a bit dull.  Lots of shot clock violations or near violations, with wild off-target shots.

On a humorous note, in a league with such a high % of lesbian players I had to chuckle at one of the names on the Sun's roster:  DeWanna Bonner. :ninja:

In a side note, the coach of tonight's losing team, the Lynx, is Cheryl Reeve,  who will be coaching the Olympic team.  Tonight the Lynx made a late 3-pointer to get within three points with enough time to get a stop or foul and potentially tie the game for overtime.   Off the timeout, the Lynx got beat deep on a breakaway for a game-winning uncontested lay up.  Oops.

Long "O" sound or short?

I've long thought the WNBA All-Star Game should be the straights vs the lesbians.   There have to be enough straight players to fill out a roster, right?

Yesterday Angel Reese tied the WNBA record of twelve consecutive double-doubles, plus her team got the win over one of the league's better teams, the Seattle Storm.  Reese's performance sparked a lot of reaction in the media with many now declaring Angel the new frontrunner for Rookie of the Year.  Caitlin Clark's response?  Hold my beer...

Today Clark became the first ever WNBA rookie to record a triple double, with 19pts, 12reb and 13asst.  The achievement is applied in that it came against the league's top team, the 3-loss NY Liberty, and against the reigning league MVP.  :notworthy:

Ar 9-13, the Fever now sit comfortably in 8th place and just a half game behind the Chicago Sky.  Having survived the league's toughest schedule, Indiana is in good position to rack up plenty more wins after the Olympic break and almost certain to make the playoffs.

LABT, I'd be interested in your thoughts on this analysis of Caitlin Clark's performance compared to past outstanding rookies:

I'll have more later but I would be interested in what he calls inflation and I couldn't find it, and the links don't work.  This is a particular interest of mine and I'd like to see what it is.

Oops, still don't know what "inflation" is.

These are still small sample sizes.

For turnovers there are adjustments that need to be made for dropped catches vs off target catches.  Clark seems to have many of the former, but whether that's disproportionate it's hard to know, since the media focus is so bright with her.  If the numbers are improving with time that may be a function of her teammates catching up with her court vision.

It would take a lot more time than I'm willing to spend on this (or I'd need to be paid a lot more to want to) to determine whether this has a any significance or if it could be housed to make a team better.

"Amongst all players, [ Caitlin] Clark has scored or assisted on more baskets than any other player, meaning she could have a case to be in the Most Valuable Player conversation, in addition to...Rookie of the Year."

A statistical case against Angel Reese as rookie of the year:  https://www.outkick.com/sports/angel-reese-stats-chicago-sky-wnba-rookie-year

"...The problem is that many of Reese's rebounds come on her own missed layups. In fact, Reese only makes 44% of her layups. She's attempted 185 layups this season and 40 of them have been blocked...Reese has blocked seven opponent shots this season, less than one block for every two games she has played. For reference, Caitlin Clark has 17 blocks this season..."

Caitlin with 29-5-13 in a loss while Reese gets 11 & 13 with a win.  The respective teams are 9-13 & 9-12 on the season.

In their game, the Fever were down three with 16 sec to go.  Here's how it ended for them...

Another Angel Reese double double.  ROTY material for sure.

Sure, she went 5-17 from the field, did not go to the line, and only had 1 assist, but there were two numbers in both the points and assist column.

How'd her team do, you ask?  Don't know, but did you see she got a double double?
