I don't know about "best," but here are some favorites from that period. I'm excluding Rush, and trying to keep it to one song per artist (though sometimes it's impossible!). No particular order:

1. Frankie Goes to Hollywood: Two Tribes

2. Tears for Fears: Head Over Heels

3. Simple Minds: Don't You (Forget About Me)

4. Duran Duran: Shadows Are on Your Side, The Reflex, Night Boat

5. The Art of Noise: A Time for Fear (Who's Afraid?); Close (To the Edit) I have to go listen to this now!

6. Ultravox: Sleepwalk

7. Dire Straits: Skateaway

8. The Who: Another Tricky Day

9. Peter Gabriel: Games Without Frontiers, Rhythm of the Heat

10. Genesis: Duchess

11. The Cult: She Sells Sanctuary

12. Steely Dan: Babylon Sisters

13. Deep Purple: Perfect Strangers

14. Stevie Ray Vaughan: Texas Flood

15. Dio: Rainbow in the Dark

16. Van Halen: Hot For Teacher

17. Blue Oyster Cult: Black Blade, Veteran of a Thousand Psychic Wars, Heavy Metal: The Black and Silver

18. Black Sabbath: Neon Knights, Heaven and Hell, The Sign of the Southern Cross

19. Iron Maiden: Can't choose

20. Slayer: Raining Blood

Phil Collins - Sussudio

I loved that Foreigner album, and that reminds me of another band that hasn't been mentioned.

I had that Adam & the Ants album.

As for Ashes To Ashes, I think it's the best song Bowie ever did (of what I know - I only had a few of his albums).

"So unplug the jukebox,

And do us all a favour,

That music's lost its taste,

So try try another flavouooor,

Ant Music!"

Yes to memory, or yes to consulting your music collection?

I'm having to rely on my memory. And that's packed.

This is where something like an iPOD or having most of your music on a computer comes in handy. Everything is right there in one spot in case you forget about something.
