Is everyone that's answering relying on their memory or consulting their music collection?

I quickly looked through my iTunes. I didn't have much time, so I now realize I forgot The Scorpions, Yes, A Flock of Seagulls...

Don't know if it's been listed yet:

Tears for Fears - Shout

When I bought that album and brought it home, I couldn't stop listening to it. I was up almost all night.

One of the best albums of the 80's imo.

I agree. It's rare that an album that I was not completely familiar with would grab me the way that one did. Once I started playing it, I just couldn't stop listening to it.

I'm going to give this a try. My songs won't be in the order they came out. I'm lucky to remember any of them at all, let alone know the exact year.

Ashes To Ashes - David Bowie

Beat Crazy - Joe Jackson

Eyes of a Stranger - The Payolas

Wishing - A Flock of Seagulls

Photograph - Def Leppard

Ice House - Ice House

Escape - Journey

Anything by The Police

In A Big Country - Big Country

Dance Hall Days - Wang Chung

New Moon On Monday - Duran Duran

Since I am relying on my memory, that's the best I can do right now.

There wasn't much I DIDN'T like.

Forgot about Big Country. Steeltown was a belter.

i was just reading about them. The poor lead singer came to a gruesome end.

On November 26, 2001, Adamson was reported missing by his wife Melanie. At the time, the couple had been estranged for six weeks, and Melanie filed for divorce on the day he disappeared. Adamson had been due to face drunk-driving charges in March 2002, and had been ordered to attend Alcoholics Anonymous. He was an alcoholic and had resumed drinking, after having been sober for over a decade. On 16 December 2001, his body was found in a closet in his room at the Best Western Plaza Hotel in Honolulu, Hawaii. According to police, Adamson had hanged himself with an electrical cord from a pole in the wardrobe. An empty wine bottle was found in the room.[7][8][9] At the time of death he had a blood-alcohol content of 0.279%.[10]

U2's The Edge delivered the eulogy at Adamson's funeral which was held at Carnegie Hall, Dunfermline. He told the mourners that Big Country wrote the songs that he wished U2 could write.

Aside from Van Halen, what has the USA produced? Most of these bands are either from Canada or across the pond.

From my lists:

Bruce Springsteen

Devo

Fishbone

Husker Du

Los Lobos

Prince

R.E.M.

The Replacements

Talking Heads

Tom Waits

In my opinion, with the exception of Bruce, Devo, REM and Talking Heads, that's not impressive compared to what England has given us.

I was surprised to find out yesterday that Def Leppard was British. I always thought they were American.

Agreed! Def Leppard are growing on me! Revisiting them after loads of Journey Toto and Foreigner albums has been good!

My style of rock...I like them now. I should have put Photograph on my list.

Husker Du kicks ass. A sonic distorted melodic beautiful mess.

The Replacements are the great lost American band, after Big Star. Never reached their potential, but Let It Be could be the best album of the decade, IMHO.

You don't like Prince? That's your problem!

You don't like Tom Waits? That's also your problem!

Los Lobos is a great band. It's not their fault their not more popular.

Fishbone is kickass. Ask RUSHHEAD666!

No, I don't like Prince. I don't like Tom Waits.

If having a different opinion than you is a problem for you, that's not my problem, it's yours.

I hate Prince, and Tom Waits is a genius, but not someone whose music I feel I could return too often.

And agreed. As I saw when I mentioned my view on Bohemian Rhapsody.

Good grief not every person likes a popular artist/song!
