How important is rush to you?

I dunno mate, I'm glad Rush is getting you through hard times, but how much do they really mean to me now? Honestly, next to nothing.

Fishing for "likes" again I see...

Brother, I can't tell you how much you make me laugh!

Thanks mate. It is "mate" isn't it?... :)

There's a lot to admire about the band. My enthusiasm for the band has been occasionally clouded by threads in the forum (discussions about Peart's attitude towards the fans, heavy criticism of the mixing of the later albums, cynical observations about Rush merchandise being a "cash grab" etc.) but those things have never really threatened my admiration, and I think threads like this one in which many members express their genuine affection far overwhelm the other negative stuff.

I'd give a toe to see Rush live pre-'82. If I were like 80, I'd give my arms and legs.

Trust me it wouldn't be worth it too much Moving Pictures, Signals, Permanent Waves, Fly by Night and 2112.

Yeah, that would suck. Nothing from their magnum opus, Presto.

Wasn't sure since we were twins separated at birth. I thought maybe then we would be bro's?...

They're my favorite band but I won't move mountains for them. I love their music and their music has opened the doors to meeting many wonderful people and discovering other great bands through them. I'd probably rate them a 6-7 too on a scale of importance. I really adore their music and they've had a nice impact, but they aren't the most important thing in life. If they call it quits in the near future, I'd be okay and can live fine without them

Tough to stomach, I agree. These guys put out what they put out (not a fan of Presto, or much of RTB). They sell what they sell. If you don't like it, at least have a sense of humor about it.

One of the more humorous responses to Geddy's bass playing on CA that I read was "I would have played it differently"

Can you believe that?

I know some people think bands are bands and just that, that some people who take bands way too serious may get a life or bla bla bla (alex lifeson way, lol). But, talking seriously, i am passing through a very hard moment, and these are the times i really think how important rush means to me. My dad left for a long time... And what make us so close, is rush. Basically, thats why we are close. Also a friend of mine, or so i thought left me, alone when i more needed her... But rush didnt. So basically thats what i would like to know. Do u also have this experiences to say? Basically, how much does this band means to you? I want to hear your stories!

:goodone: This is what I meant about my teen years minus the dad part. They were comforting when I had little else...

Edit: Forgot the... :hug2: Glad you and your dad have Rush in common or anything in common for that matter. I have a daughter (way grown now) but having something, at least one thing to bond over is super important. If you don't mind me asking is your dad back in your life?...

My dad has just left the country for the following 3 years... Its tough. We are very closed, every weekend we go out with his car and listen to music together. Sometimes we talk, sometimes we just listen. Both ways make us feel a dad-daughter relation nowadays many kids do not have. I thank him because he opened myself to new cultures (i experienced buddhism with him, im catholic though, thanks him i know huge bands that openedme to great booms and to great culture) but the man point is he used to be a HUGE rush fan when he was a kid, and now i am. Its an unluck, but its also luck, his career is going high! Meanwhile, (and thats why i opened this post) ive got rush so i dont feel alone

One of Rush's songs saved my life after I had a self-harming attack and considered committing suicide, so yeah...they're kinda important. Edited by fraroc

I was only 12, but having seen them in May 1980, I will say that it was worth more than a toe

The final moments of Jacob's Ladder during that show still send chills thru me -

I can't even say that about the first porno movie I saw

How important is Rush?....Mmmmm?

You've got your Family, Friends, Health, Faith, and Career coming in as Top 5

Then your love of Animals, Art, Charity, Knowledge and Music rounding out the Top 10

Listening to ( and understanding ) Rush and playing a few instruments personally are the highlights of my love of Music.

When I had a near death experience in 2001....My Top 5 were ever present.

When I eventually came out the coma...I asked, "How are my dog, cat, fish, guinea pigs and tortoises doing" ....

And then they said I asked for a portable cd player and some Rush discs, which helped in my long road to recovery.

Whether you're healthy, dying or in between ; The things that are important to you tend to surround you.

So, it's not that surprising to me that Rush ranks up there very high in the things that are important to me.

How about the first time you heard "Heaven's on Fire"?

Music feeds the soul. Live music, even more so. Tunes are vital to the human experience.

That said, the guy who skipped his son's birth to attend a Rush show, has his priorities out of wack.

That's funny...And reminds me of a similar story.

Back in 1990, on the Presto Tour, my wife was like 10 months pregnant but i still wanted to go to the Rush show. It was before the cell phone era and all we had were pagers. After much debate, she said I could go but if she paged me with our predetermined code, I had better get to the hospital immediately.

Well sure has can be I got a page about 10 minutes before the start of the show, but with no code #. I thought should I just drive directly to the hospital or try and phone home to catch her. Luckily I found a pay phone inside the arena and called her...

She answered and said, " I hate you...but I love you...So go back and enjoy the show " We had are first born son about 13 hours later.

Music and Rush means everything to me!

When I was going in school, I had a hard time. People was stupid to me and I had no one to talk with. So I protected my self with music. Whenever I felt bad, I was listening to music.

I am not so happy in my life. I got no friends, no girlfriend, no job, and I fight a lot with my parents. Then I know that I always got my music. Music makes me wanna live on. If I did not have music / Rush, I would probably not live today...

Tough words, my friend. I havent lived enough to talk... But remember Rush itself talks a lot about this. Have you ever tried finding happiness by any other way? Hold Your Fire + Siddharta is a good combo to find happiness... At least from my point of view... Go get a try :)
