I've seen them enough, thanks.

No, you haven't. Get back out there and see them......NOW. :gumby: :gumby:

No, I really have and I was lucky enough to see them when they were amazing. :)

On Hemisphere tour?

I did. They were. And the tours prior to that.

Yes, Hemispheres. They were also amazing on the PeW tour. For me, the beginning of their decline started with the MP tour.

I'm telling you, they lost their mojo when Alex cut his hair. :)

For me it was all over when Neil shaved his porntache. They became just anoher Canadian Psuedo prog band.

Good interview. Interesting that they rank CA so high in their lexicon.

But it all points to the same apparent inevitability.

Alex and Neil are hurting.

Still, it's good that at least some possibility of a Euro R40 leg remains in 2016 for the Euro fans.

Clearly, as has been rumored, it simply comes down to Alex and Neil's physical endurance.

I'm totally on board with a new album and no tour behind it, but there's no money in that. But they don't really do things for the money either.

I will happily take a new Rush studio album over another tour.

I think there is an issue with the tour that many fans (example, me) find themselves extremely in disadvantage considering they aint coming to their country. If i have to pick, i prefer them to do an album. Though, i know the decission has been taken, but an album would at least say like "hey guys, sorry i couldnt go there, at least heres a last goodbye!"

The other thing that's unusual with this article is that it has mostly older pictures. I was surprised at that. In a good way. :)

Thank you for posting. Interesting read. Seems like nothing is set or out of the question. Another album a European tour. Then again, maybe they hang it up. Geddy is still ready to go though, sadly Yes is in need of a new bassist.

Did anyone else here pick up a touch of resentment here and there when it came to Neil?

They're Canadian. Therefore, they're incapable of resentment. ;)

Seriously, this interview should put to rest any notions that the "last tour of this magnitude" quote in the press release was simply a ploy to spur ticket sales before the next world tour they're already plotting.

Bottom line is they don't know what the future holds for Rush. They may have enough fun on these dates that they want to hit Europe next year. But it still sounds like the odds - physical pain, family longing, and burn out - are against it.

Hey! I resent that!

Oh, who am I kidding. No I don't. ;)

Thanks for sharing this interview.

I wanted to go to sleep but then I found this so I had to read it

I'm surprised they were willing to tell so much about their current situation. They can still play so well, I had no idea about Alex's arthrisis and Neil's tendonitis. I discovered Rush less than a year ago (I'm young and french, that's why) so I've never seen them live but I'll be happy whatever they do, their music has already brought me so much joy :)

May I ask where in France you live? And are there many Rush fans in France?

I live in a small town somewhere in the red zone called "Loiret".

To answer your other question, every person I've talked to about Rush had never heard of them. But that must be like 30 people so I don't know how many Rush fans there are in France. Most of those I told are people my age (I'm 20) who have no interest in that kind of music so it's not really surprising. I just don't know any myself

The Loire Valley is gorgeous. My sister visited there years ago when she went to school in Aix-en Provence.

The one thing I got from this interview was a sense of sadness from the guys. Perhaps even a little anger at the ageing process. I've seen tough guys weep when they retire from a factory job. There is an inevitability about that word - retirement - that signals an ending. A step closer to death: counting down of a life. Imagine what they must be going through, even forgetting the physical issues. Forty years as a creative team, family in all but name, and then to call it a day. That must hurt. Very badly. I don't know any of them, but I hope they are all okay when the day comes. Looks like it's not so far off.

My wife is French - and had never heard of Rush before we met. In fact, none of her friends had ever heard of Rush either. I don't think it's because French people don't like this type of music (they were all familiar with other rock bands that I like), but Rush has never really been promoted in France heavily. I think they have only played there once (Le Zenith in Paris on the Roll The Bones tour 1991/2, I believe.)

We're headed to France this summer (kids visit grandparents, etc.) and I will be watching some shows on Periscope in the middle of the night! So, the concentration of Rush fandom will go up 100% :D

Geddy has lousy taste in their own music.

Except for his remark on Neurotica. That was spot on, I think.

what did he say?
