Yes, Tears for Fears were great. I always liked this song.

edit to add: I feel like I'm back in high school again with the music. It's like a massive 80s retro-flashback!

Don't know if they're new wave or not. Either way, we've got to put some Violent Femmes in here too. I listened to a *lot* of them high school.

I hope you know that this will go down on your permanent record.

Can't believe no one mentioned these guys. Love the glasses, too.

The "cops" are one of my favorite bands of all time. Are they new wave? Hard to say. They're kind of punk, kind of reggae, kind of straight pop. I saw them on the Synchronicity tour and again at Fenway Park in 2008(?). They had lost nothing in 25 years. Love them.

It would be difficult not to classify their early stuff as anything other than new wave.

I'd be willing to defer to the experts at Rolling Stone, though. ;)

Even a broken clock is right twice a day. I mean, they nailed it with The Cars, no? ;-)

Well, yeah, but....f*** em.

Didn't read all the posts, so I might have missed it... did anyone mention The B-52s? Planet Claire... Or Rock Lobster. There's a few high school memories for ya!

I think someone posted Planet Claire. Rock Lobster and Private Idaho certainly deserve some love.

That someone was me. Of course RL and PI, Planet Claire is underrated, hence the example.

Berlin was totally new wave synth pop. But I still really liked the Pleasure Victim album.

More Talking Heads.

I love Fear of Music. They were so fraking good!

I love the single piano note. ...it's only the river, it's only river...

Remain in Light was one the first CDs I bought in 1985.

Infectious groove on this one.

Plus +99 for all the great songs (and videos) you guys have posted.

+1 for Terri Nunn of Berlin (I've got a little Rubik's Cube in my pants just thinking about her).

+1 for Dale Bozzio of Missing Persons (not as hot, but the crazy makes up for it).

Minus 1 for not mentioning Dexy's Midnight Runners and Come On Eileen yet.

= 100

Come On Eileen is probably the dirtiest new wave song. ;)

I *thought* about putting Come On Eileen up. Does that count?

I've been listening to a lot of new wave on YouTube at work the last few days, thanks to this great thread. Here's one I love, that I don't think has been mentioned:

I saw a documentory on the Go Gos once. They were wild bunch. :eh:

I can't believe I forgot about this one. This one definitely takes me back to the summer of 1982 when MTV was playing this tune in heavy rotation.
