rushgoober
I was listening to the radio the other day with my wife, and Won't Get Fooled Again by The Who was playing, and I commented that I loved classic rock because so often you'd hear these extended keyboard/organ solos at the start or in the middle (or even at the end) of a song, and that was actually cool and in vogue back then. What are some great popular classic rock songs from the 60's or 70's (or whenever) that contained long keyboard / organ solos somewhere in the song? I know there's all kinds of prog rock keyboard goodness, but let's keep this thread to songs that were minor or major hits of some kind. Here are some that spring to mind for me: The Who - Won't Get Fooled AgainThe Who - Baba O'RileyJoe Walsh - Life's Been GoodThe Steve Miller Band - Fly Like An EagleDeep Purple - Highway StarThe Doors - Riders on the StormThe Doors - Light My FireEmerson, Lake & Palmer - From the BeginningElton John - Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies BleedingDeep Purple - BurnArgent - Hold Your Head UpGenesis - Abacab I know I'm not thinking of dozens of great songs, so help me out here! Powderfinger
A little out of left field, but I was listening to Heart's Magic Man the other day, and was delighted by that tune's awesome moog breakdown. Heart was a little proggy on Dreamboat Annie! It's an example of how prog really was influencing popular rock and roll in strange, unexpected, and often-satisfying ways.
