Lost In Xanadu
QUOTE (D3strukt @ Aug 20 2012, 01:02 PM) easy choice, hemispheres I agree, except for the part it being easy. Xanadu is a close second for me.
bluefox4000
When I want an Epic i go for Fountain of Lamneth the most.....without a doubt.  For kicks if I had to number these. 1. Fountain 2. Xanadu 3. The Camera eye 4. The Necromancer 5. 2112 With Cygnus X-1 and Hemispheres not ranking...I dislike those equally. Mick Edited August 20, 2012 by bluefox4000

Mick For giggles, this very second I'd rank them this way:Â 1. The Necromancer 2. Xanadu 3. Hemispheres 4. 2112 5. Fountain of Lamneth 6. The Camera Eye 7. Cygnus X-1 (the only song on the list I don't really, really love)Â Each of the first six could be my favorite on any given day.

Cyclonus X-1
The Necromancer is my favorite because of Alex's incredible soloing, but I love all of these songs except for Cygnus X-1. I have them ranked like this:Â The Necromancer 2112 Xanadu The Fountain of Lamneth Hemispheres The Camera Eye Cygnus X-

rushgoober
It's so odd that there have been 19 people voting so far, and not one for 2112, but 3 for The Necromancer??? Â My order:Â 1. Xanadu 2. 2112 3. Hemispheres 4. The Fountain of Lamneth 5. The Camera Eye 6. Cygnus X-1 7. The Necromancer
Bangster of Goats
In order:Â The Camera Eye Hemispheres Cygnus X-1 Xanadu The Fountain of Lamneth The Necromancer 2112Â Â Â Lamneth and 2112 kinda get asterisks from me though. I don't think of them as really being 'songs' in of themselves as more as 'songs collected into an epic suite'. The entire Clockwork Angels album could be considered one "song" following the logic laid down by 2112 and Lamneth. (Though 2112 is more continuous than Lamneth or CA.)Â The other Rush "epics" here are continuous pieces of music (even if they have Roman-numeral parts... and my Hemispheres vinyl doesn't have that long pause between the prelude and the rest of the song like the CD does; on the vinyl, the band finishes the prelude, the instruments ring out and start to fade, but then it kicks straight into Apollo before it fades out completely like the CD. The CD makes it sound like a track gap rather than a musical pause. LOL, sorry to go on about that... it's the one thing that really bugs me about the CD versions of Hemispheres I've heard. ) Edited August 21, 2012 by Bangster of Goats

The latter two are integrated very seamlessly, while they didn't really have that desire or sophistication yet with Necromancer.
