Biggest threats while driving?

We all know that drinking and driving is extremely dangerous, texting and driving is equally as dangerous as proven by numerous studies...

Anyone ever thing of signing and driving? I was behind 2 ladies, and I thought at first she was texting and driving due to the erratic behavior, but when I started paying attention, she was talking to the passenger using sign language. She was literally all over the road. We were on the freeway in the right lane, in traffic, and she was crossing the lines into the middle lane and into the emergency lane. A number of cars in the middle lane had to swerve to avoid being hit.

That's terrifying.

I had someone cut me off at 75 mph trying to get to an offramp on the highway, so I hit the horn. She made it onto the offramp, and when I looked over, she had her left hand up in the window flipping me off, her right hand was up to her head, talking on her phone, and she had a doughnut in her mouth. She honestly couldn't fathom that the problem was hers, not mine.

I have seen some of these above. I generally pass them as quickly as I can. People are INSANE if they think they can drive safely while doing all this crap.

The one I see most often is the person in the left lane who won't get over when I'm trying to get down the road. And all the while, the person is swerving into the other lane a little bit. I usually have to flash my brights and/or honk the horn to get their attention.

And then they get over, and sure enough it never fails......they're deep in conversation on a cell phone. angry.gif angry.gif angry.gif

I love getting flipped off when it's the other person that was being the asshole.

The other day coming back to work from lunch, a guy swerved around to pass me IN THE PARKING LANE, and when I didn't slow down to let him cut in front of me (for the record, I also didn't speed up just to be an asshole like my passenger suggested I do), he had to slam on the brakes to avoid hitting a parked car and he gave ME the finger! facepalm.gif

Cops: Woman Crashes Car While Shaving Her Privates

"She said she was meeting her boyfriend in Key West and wanted to be ready for the visit," Dunick told the Key West Citizen.

It gets weirder. In order to pay full attention to her sensitive regions, police say Barnes enlisted her ex-husband, Charles Judy, who was riding shotgun, to hold the wheel.

Yes, her ex-husband.

Their tag-team driving went awry when an SUV driving in front of them slowed to turn. Barnes' 1995 Thunderbird smashed into it. Two of the SUV's passengers suffered minor injuries, police say. Barnes shouldn't have been driving that Thunderbird, since she had been convicted the previous day for driving under the influence and driving with a suspended license.

According to the arrest affidavit, the trooper asked her afterward why she didn't hit the brakes when she saw the SUV. She answered bluntly, "I told you, I was shaving."

The thing that annoys me more than anything is people who won't even go the posted speed limit on the thru-ways and expressways. If there's a lot of cars clogging up the lanes, I get it. But when it's night and there's not many people out there and drivers aren't even going 55 MPH on the highway is when I get pissed off. It's just about as dangerous as speeding, because if you're going slower than the speed limit and someone comes up behind you who's doing the speed limit you can just as easily get into an accident. It's rediculous when i'm in the right hand or middle lane doing the speed limit and I have to move around people because they aren't even doing that. I'm sorry but if i'm blowing past you at 55 there is something seriously wrong with you and your comprehension of how highway driving works. This isn't something that I encounter every now and then but something I experience a few times a week. It absolutely baffels me that people can be so unaware of where they are and what they're doing when operating a motor vehicle.

Quite often, they are fully aware of what they're doing. I share your frustration, but we should remember that people are not required to drive at exactly the speed limit or faster. There is a minimum speed on highways and interstates, but everywhere else, there isn't.

Many elderly drivers don't want to or aren't able to drive so fast. And, to be honest, many drivers are simply too afraid to drive fast. Ya just gotta drive around 'em and forget about 'em. Personally, I've almost caused some accidents via my impatience to go around some slow-ass...... ohmy.gif

That's a very good point. As long as someone is at or above the minimum (if there is one), you can't really complain. Now, if they're in the left passing lane, that's a valid complaint - mainly because it's a passing lane and nobody's supposed to be in it unless they're passing... but as long as slower drivers stay to the right, everything should be fine. The trouble is, nobody does that and we end up with people doing 55 in the left lane of a 65mph highway with people passing on the right. Very dangerous.

Agreed. My dad (who taught driver training as a high school teacher by the way) is on the verge of being a hazard on the roads. He probably shouldn't drive at all, but he's probably still OK in the daytime in familiar places, and where he lives he needs to be able to get some places via car. What he (and my mom) should do for their own safety is live closer to town, in a senior living community. But understandably, they're reluctant to do so, seeing it as a loss of autonomy, or even going some place to die.

It's a tough situation all around... sad.gif

One thing that ticks me off while driving is noticing that other people are not paying attention to their surroundings. For example, one of the first times I was ever on the 401 (one of the busiest highways in Canada) heading to Toronto, it was almost my last as well, because some person did not pay attention to the "Lane Ending" sign that was clearly marked. I saw the sign, checked my mirrors and blind spots and moved over into the other lane with no issues. Then, some guy who obviously was not paying ANY attention at all, right at the point the lane ends decided to squeeze between my car and the median at the side of the road (there was also a big green wall on the other side of the median)!!!!

If I was not in control of my vehicle that could have been a horrible situation to say the least. There was not much space at all between my car and the median, so I'm wondering just how much logic was running through that person's head when he decided to zip past me like that. Probably not very much.

The scariest person I ever encountered on the road was an extremely high young gal who was swerving constantly in and out of two lanes, on the freeway, driving around 70mph. I made it past her and was able to glance over to see just how high she was. And this was all around 8am.

I'm amazed at how many women I notice who apply makeup while driving.

So many people on the phone. It's crazy. Get off the F*4K9n phone, or get off the road.

40 in a 55 in broad daylight. Not a cloud in the sky.

anyone who texts should just automatically get bitchslap.gif ed.

I have seen makeup appliers, nose pickers, people throwing garbage out windows and many many swayers (substance unknown). People driving in the middle of the road on the line.

I don't understand people. sad.gif

when you're our age and you get the urge to complain about "teenagers" we must stop ourselves. If you don't get it checked soon you'll be yelling at kids to get off your lawn and complaining to the neighbors about their grass not being green enough.

Over the course of today, I have come to believe that the biggest threat while driving would be one of the posters in the CA forum with a smart phone checking out the forum when the 46th fake leak thread was started.

Had to bring this back up...

On my way to work this morning, the guy in front of me (from IL) was texting and driving for miles. I finally get the chance to go around him, pull up beside him and honk my horn. When he looks over I yell "put the f***ing phone down and drive" - his response, giving me the finger.

Love this attitude....

So - is there anything we can do? Do we call the police non-emergency line? I hardly see the point in that.

Is there anything that can be done other than wait for this moron to slam into someone??

The biggest threat to my driving is hot chicks jogging in yoga pants.

Nearly got killed the other day with some young bitch on the phone, reading a map, and trying to drive all at the same time. She comes onto the Beltline (highway around Madison) at 40 mph!! I was behind two semis so I didn't see her until the last minute when she wanted to move over. I had to slam on the brakes to avoid hitting her. I got along side her and I screamed "WHAT THE F*CK ARE YOU DOING, WANNA GET KILLED??" Her response, the classy middle finger!!! I followed her and called 911 and throughly enjoyed watching her ass get pulled over by the cops and getting citations for reckless driving, no seatbelt, etc. F*cking bitch learned her lesson the hard way!!!....All the while, I was doing this... :LMAO: :LMAO:
