Sounds like ELP with some (dare I say it) Deep Purple thrown in there.  unsure.gif

Thank you!

That's all.

Mostly it was the Jon Lord-ish organ sound that brought in the Purple comparison for me...

And it's a Jon Lordish organ sound and not a Steve Walshish organ sound for a reason

Just found out that Kansas is finally releasing a remastered version of their live CD Two For The Show. The original CD version has a lot of analog tape hiss so this is welcome news.

But that's not the best part...this new version will feature a second CD with previously unreleased live cuts that were recorded during the same shows featured on the original T4tS! (That's like Rush announcing an expanded version of ESL featuring "Camera Eye," "Hemispheres," etc. from that same tour.) These are not previously heard live tracks that were featured on any of the best-of CDs or as bonus tracks on the remastered studio CDs.

Plus...the whole album will not only be remastered, but REMIXED as well (by Jeff Glixman, who also did their classic albums).

This will be released on July 1st. Here's the track listing:

First disc (same running order as the original CD version)
1. Song for America
2. Point of Know Return
3. Paradox
4. Icarus -- Borne on the Wings of Steel
5. Portrait (He Knew)
6. Carry on Wayward Son
7. Journey from Mariabronn
8. Dust in the Wind
9. Lonely Wind
10. Mysteries and Mayhem
11. Excerpt from Lamplight Symphony
12. The Wall
13. Magnum Opus

Second disc
1. Hopelessly Human - (previously unreleased)
2. Child of Innocence - (previously unreleased)
3. Belexes - (previously unreleased)
4. Cheyenne Anthem - (previously unreleased)
5. Lonely Street - (previously unreleased)
6. Miracles Out of Nowhere - (previously unreleased)
7. Drum Solo/The Spider - (previously unreleased)
8. Closet Chronicles - (from the original LP and tape versions, later cut from the CD version)
9. Down the Road - (previously unreleased)
10. Sparks of the Tempest - (previously unreleased)
11. Bringing It Back - (previously unreleased)

Oh, that is beyond awesome. It'll be coming out on my birthday. trink36.gif

Now I'm so psyched I've put on the debut album, cranked up LOUD! biggrin.gif

don't mean to beat a dead horse but I got one more clip to share with RK. check this out.

Magnum Opus

As cool as that song is, it becomes even more impressive when you realize that it was actually stitched together from "leftovers" of songs that wouldn't fit on the first three albums. The original title of Magnum Opus was "Leftoverture", but Livgren decided to use that as the name of the album instead.

Masque is the crown jewel out of that bunch. The last two are spotty, but have some nice moments. But that's a heckuva birthday present...you now have the complete works from the original lineup!

Leftoverture has always been my favorite.

My very first Rush concert was Rush & Kansas in an ice rink in Mt. Prospect, Illinois

I listened to "Kansas" on the drive to work today. I love it - for a first album, it really sounds good to my non-musician ears.

I especially enjoyed "Journey From Mariabronn." smile.gif

I'm a sucker for Icarus - Bourne On Wings Of Steel. The version on "Two For The Show" is fantastic!

If you like that version check out "device voice drum" on dvd. I think that's one of my favorite Kansas songs of all time. I am going to greatly miss robbie stanheardt this summer. He really completes the sound of Kansas.

I just finally listened to the studio version for the first time when my brother surprisingly busted out the LP on vinyl a couple months ago. Sounds like a great album. I'll have to get the disc!

That song is awesome (and even better live on T4TS), but "Apercu" is my favorite on the debut album. And Steve Walsh's keyboard work was already remarkably mature on that debut album. His organ solo in "Death of Mother Nature Suite" is killer.

I didn't get to "Apercu" on my drive in...on the way home I will. I look forward to hearing the rest of the album.

It's a great feeling to know that I have all this "new" music to discover.

I loves it some lot. smile.gif
