On TheRoad To Adventure
QUOTE (Kenneth @ Nov 2 2011, 03:24 PM) Should be quiet I work in a library, and it's a never-ending battle! USB Connector
They should be beaten with whatever books/phones/laptops they brought in. There are always those two people in who come into the individual study room/library just to gossip. Whenever I ask them to shush, I get 2 minutes of silence, tops. I even ask them to take it outside and come back, they just stare at me as if they'll be shot by going out there.

CMWriter
QUOTE (Tommy Sawyer @ Nov 2 2011, 05:52 PM) I feel the same way about rappers... This post saddens me. Wow, you guys have some pretty serious thoughts on this matter. What if you're asking someone where to find a book? Or talking to someone who works in the library? When I'm trying to find the right book for a research paper I sure as heck do a lot of talking. You kind of need to, y'know, communicate. Librarians are there to help, no? I am sorry if my post offended you. I didn't really have any thought on the matter, so I thought I'd make a joke. I don't go in libraries much but librarians can be very helpful indeed. ... but do you really think this thread was going to be a serious discussion? I was serious (minus the exaggeration of beating people). To talk quietly in the main hall of the library with the librarian to find a book is fine, but the moment people start talking around the study areas I get really annoyed. go2wrk@95974
I don't think it's appropriate. You have to respect the silence and solitude (at certain times) of a library. I do agree, there are times when you have to ask the librarian question's..but, then again.. The Library is all about reading.. It's NOT a place to socialize. If ya want'a yak your jaw's, go to the cafeteria.

librarian
People should use their 'library voice' - which is the same as one's 'elevator voice', if you will. It is more out of politeness than a rule where I am. There's a least one person every day you want to do this to...but I don't suggest that anyone should do that. Ever.
