He's another one of those ignorant dopes that doesnt think there's any skill involved in creating rap.

It is not easier to write a truly great rap song, regardless of what anyone ever thinks. Its the same as rock. Its pretty easier to put together some piece of shit rock song, much hard to write a great one. Exact same thing in rap. He's probably just a racist that hates anyone different than him, one of these tools that thinks rock is the only thing that deserves respect.

I am not an "ignorant dope" or a "racist" so stop with the assumptions. As a guitarist and someone who listens to rock music, I know its hard to write a good rock song. I am sure it is also hard to write a good rap song. But if you pull your fat head out of your ass trenken, I am sure you will see the difference in what goes into a rock song and what goes into a rap song.

I never said that it takes no skill to write a rap song. It does take skill to write a good rap song. I was saying that there are a lot more actual musical elements that come into play when writing a rock song like multiple instruments, vocal melody, and structure. you as a musician should know.

I am not saying rock music is better because it is more complex than rap, I am saying that rock songs are generally harder to write because there are more elements to a rock song.

No one can say a certain genre of music is better than another, its all a matter of what you like personally.

i can completely accept that good rap (which perhaps is an oxymoron) can be difficult to create and takes skill, even musical skill...

... but I still hate it.

For many of us it's a trend that should have had a short life span, but somehow got out of control and has been relentlessly pummeled into us since the early 80's. Any bitching we do about rap will never equal how obnoxious it's been to us for literally decades now. Inescapable and tortuous.

But live and let live. If you like it, you're more than entitled, and obviously no one's criticisms should alter what you like. At the end of the day people have to go home and listen to what makes them happy.

QUOTE (Silas Lang @ May 24 2011, 06:48 PM)
If rap used real instruments, there would be real bands which means there would be real musicians who would have got bored with the guy up front shouting bad poetry a long time ago and moved on to real music.

Rap has the same relationship to music that feces has to food. Everything worthwhile has been removed and what's left over stinks. But of course, it's just a matter of taste, right? tongue.gif

I like music, not non-stop talking over a simple repetitive beat.

Hey Lang! I think it's time for you to "CHECK YOUR HEAD!"

Why all the bad "rap" about The Beastie Boys then?

Sure they started out as just rappers but eventually evolved into real musicians.

They are an awesome "rap band!" SABOTAGE!

Time for some Tone Loc.

Signed,

"Funky Cold Medina"

Nothing I don't like can be considered "music." Sorry.

I just hope this thread somehow leads to a huge argument that goes offline and onto the street and results in the painful death of the jungle book boy fledgehog...well certainly a good beating for him anyway...

Some rappers use real instruments in the studio genius. Dont talk down on something you obviously dont know about.

Its kind of the in thing now for rappers to use real instruments, and even have their own permanent bands. Many of them are getting away from DJs.

^ and that shouldn't be taken as a knock against DJ's as musicians (of which many of them are)

Thats true. I have heard some really cool stuff put together by a DJ. But i have heard some crap stuff too.

In the early days they did use real instruments in rap,(some modern artists still do, but its rare) and it sounded pretty good. They had to out of necessity because the technology didn't allow them to do certain things. It sounded better than today's mainstream stuff that's for sure.

I can tell ya first hand that rap IS music even though I hate it. The drum beats are actually an electronic drumset(an actual real set, not just computer programmed) and they record it into a computer then they rap ovr it. I make Progressive Techno music and all my music comes from my piano...

I was having an argument on rap vs funeral doom. He says rap is all about emotion. I say rap is all about sex, girs, drinking and getting high all the time. He says Funeral Doom is just deep death growls(actually he said all metal is like that...NOT TRUE!) and slow beats. Obviosly he hasn't heard of The March and the Stream...

Here is Eminem's "We Made You"

Guess who? Did you miss me?

Jessica Simpson, sing the chorus!

[Chorus]

When you walked through the door, it was clear to me (Clear to me!)

You're the one who they adore, who they came to see (Who they came to see!)

You're a rockstar (Baby!)

Everybody wants you (Everybody wants you)

Player!

Who could really blame you? (Who could really blame you?)

We're the ones who made you!

[Verse 1]

Back by popular demand

Now pop a little Zantax or antacid if you can

You're ready to tackle any task that is at hand

How does it feel: Is it fantastic, is it grand?

Well look at all the massive masses in the stands

Shady man, no, don't massacre the fans

Damn, I think Kim Kardashian's a man

She stomped him, just 'cause he asked to put his hands

On her massive, gluteus maximus again

Squeeze it and squash it and pass it to a friend

Can he come back as nasty as he can?

Yes he can, Cam, don't ask me this again

He does not mean to lesbian offend

But Lindsay, please come back to seein' men

Samantha's a two, you're practically a ten

I know you want me girl, in fact I see ya grin

Now come in girl!

[Chorus]

[Verse 2]

The enforcer, look at the more women to torture

Walk up to the cutest girl and Charlie-horse her

Sorry Portia, but what's Ellen DeGeneres

Have that I don't? Are you tellin' me tenderness?

Well I could be as gentle and as smooth as a gentleman

Give me my Ventolin inhaler and two Xenadrine

And I'll invite Sarah Palin out to dinner then

Nail her, maybe say, "Hello to my little friend"

Brit, forget K-Fed, let's cut out the middleman

Forget him or you'll end up in the hospital again

And this time it won't be for the Ritalin binge

Forget them other men, girl pay them little attention

And little did I mention that Jennifer's in love with me John Mayer, so sit on the bench

Man, I swear them other guys you give 'em an inch

They take a mile, they got style, but it isn't Slim

[Chorus]

And that's why, my love, you never live without

I know you want me girl

'Cause I can see you checkin' me out

And baby, you know, you know you want me too

Don't try to deny it, baby, I'm the only one for you

[Verse 3]

Damn girl, I'm beginning to sprout then Alfalfa

Why should I wash my filthy mouth out?

You think that's bad, you should hear the rest of my album

Never has their been such finesse and nostalgia

Man Cash, I don't mean to mess with ya gal but

Jessica Alba, put a breast in my mouth, bruh

Wowzers! I just made a mess in my trousers

And they wonder why I keep dressing like Elvis

Lord help us, he's back and in his pink Alf shirt

Lookin' like someone shrinked his outfit

I think he's bout to flip, Jessica

Rest assured, Superman's here to rescue ya

Can you blame me? You're my Amy, I'm your Blake

Matter fact, make me a birthday cake

With a sawblade in it to make my jailbreak

Baby, I think you just met your soulmate

Now break it down, girl!

[Chorus]

[bridge]

So baby, baby

Get down, down, down (Baby!)

Get down, down, down (Baby!)

Get down, down, down (Baby!)

Get down, get down (Baby!)

Get down, down, down (Baby!)

Get down, down, down (Baby!)

Get down, down, down (Baby!)

Get down, get down

[Talking]

Oh Amy!

Rehab never looked so good!

I can't wait!

I'm going back!

Haha! Whoo!

Dr. Dre

2020

Yeah!

And now...here is Skepticism's The March and the Stream...

Stream brought words

And Stream brought meanings

Through it's aether were seen all beings

Beauty revealed as cruelty

Core of grief as death of desire

Stream flow in depth unmatched

Crossed a statue with no hearing

March came colder than invited

Crossed a realm of two endings

Stream to a sea had started turning

WE MADE YOU MUSIC VIDEO

But isn't music just a matter of opinion?
