CygnusX-1Bk2 Posted August 11, 2005 Author Posted August 11, 2005 Hey Pete, how much was the piezo system? That Tele looks nice (as does the Les Paul, same finish as my Epiphone LP). I'd like to do the same thing.
_pete_ Posted August 11, 2005 Posted August 11, 2005 The saddles were $99, the preamp was $89. I added a few other parts like concentric pots for volume controls and a mini switch for piezo/both/magnetic. I did a lot of research and the Graph Tech was the best system. It has a stereo output so I can send the piezo signal to one amp and the regular guitar signal to another amp or use a mono cable and send it all to one amp. It's killer on "Natural Science". I can play the acoustic intro part and slowly fade the electric in with a volume pedal just like big Al does.

I love that Firebird, the TONE is just awsome, one of my fav guitars, the Ibanez (closest to the amp) is a great all around guitar from in the mid range to just metal like playing and even a clean chanel playing. and the Les Paul copy is just a good guitar for drop D tuning, Nightwishs' Slaying The Dreamer sounds good on it, but it needs new pickups and the volume and tone knobs need fixed, but looks good.

Mandalorian Hunter Posted September 1, 2005 Posted September 1, 2005 I Don't have a pic right now, but i currently have; Epiphone SG faded Cherry Squier Strat and a *cough*10 watt*cough* amp I'm getting a new one, but not sure whether to get a half-stack, a 100W combo, or a 50W combo.

Im glad i went with that instead of a Marshell or a Crate half stack, the heads are heavy, and the box is just ackward to cary, and those weigh in at around 40 pounds, so if you have a band and going to practice you gotta take you guitars and carry around 90lbs of guitar amps, The combo is the best bet, or look at a combo TUBE amp, (wish i bought one) B-52 makes a VERY VERY nice tube amp, tips the scale at 70lbs, but sounds better than a half stack IMO.

Thanks def! I've been looking at a few Marshall's. What would you suggest, 100 or 50W amps? well it really depends, if you looking at a solidstate amp go with 100 watts, if looking at a tube amp (most of Marshells are) go with a 50watt, tube amps are much louder than a solid state amp. If i were you (or had the money) B-52 60W all tube amp is great, super for rock and metal. but has a steep price $750, but if your looking at a marshell your looking at around the same price, and IMO the B-52 has a better over all sound.
CygnusX-1Bk2 Posted September 1, 2005 Author Posted September 1, 2005 Marshalls are nice, but a bit of a one trick pony. Depends on what you're going for. There are many combos from other maufacturers that have a wider range of tonality. Wattage ratings vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, but generally a 50 w amp is loud enough to play with a drummer, with extra head room. In a smaller setting you are going to be hard pressed to get a decent tone from a 100 w amp because you won't really be able to drive the amp. You will get a better tone with a lower wattage amp. If you aren't hearing it well when you play put it up on a crate or a rack or angle it up slightly. I just got an older Fender Deluxe Reverb from the late 70's which is rated at 22 watts, yet I have yet to turn the volume past 2. I also have a 25 watt Electar (Epiphone) that I really have to crank to match the volume of the Fender.
Mandalorian Hunter Posted September 1, 2005 Posted September 1, 2005 Thanks, both of you. Problem is, there isn't too much choice where i live. I could do it online, but i'm sceptical about that. i'll tell you the choices i have online in a minute.

_pete_ Posted September 16, 2005 Posted September 16, 2005 (edited) I just got my new amp today. Hughes and Kettner ZenTera! I am lovin' it! My Vox Valvetronix sounded great but this one is at another level. I need to learn what it's capable of. It has so much packed into it! I also found on H&K's website where I can download all of Lifeson's ZenTera programs. Who wants a nice Vox Valvetronix AD120VTH head and VC12 foot controller? It's on Ebay now with one day left! Here's a few pics. I need to go play! http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/zentera5.jpg http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/zentera3.jpg http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/zentera4.jpg http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/zentera1.jpg Edited September 16, 2005 by pete, the old guy
red sector animal Posted September 18, 2005 Posted September 18, 2005 Hello all, new here. Heres my rig... An Ibanez 'GIO' series (cheapie) guitar. Plays well. sounds ok. Has a great neck and cool looks. Blonde finish , with a Frank Zappa/ Angus Young body. I also have a red Bc rich cheapie, looks like steve vai's guitar in crossroads, and Steve Vai and Eric Johnson signed it. Plays ok, but the ibanez does everything I need. Proccessor: I have an ART pedal board with some great sounds, but its a pain to use and totally unreliable for accurate sound changes in the middle of a song. I can also plug into my computer for some cool effects and a multitrack recorder. AMP: Tech21 '120' watt dual speaker amp. Its Ok. I had some old amps that were stolen and my sound used to be better, more unique. The reverb isnt great and I question its true power output. (dosent sound like 120 watts) Otherwise, it has some cool sounds and the overdrives sound really good. I've always been a fan of clean amps with external distortion sources though. Its pedal switch is ok. I havent tested it out yet. or with any other musicians..' ANYONE IN UPSTATE NY ?
