  1. You know that if the setlist was "the top 15 songs fans dislike the most" Every show would be flawless for any amount of shows. It's just the way it works. Also got to be sort of fun to have the song start to derail yet to be proficient enough to keep it rolling down the tracks to it's destination. Thats got to spice the nights up a bit.
  2. It should be considered part of the Moving Pictures theme...after all didn't Neil have headphones on in the original video's for Limelight and Tom Sawyer?
  3. QUOTE (J2112YYZ @ Sep 5 2010, 01:04 PM) I'm sorry to hear about the lame fans in you section. It's weird of all the times i've seen Rush that only happened once where the crowd sat down for all of it. That was the super lame ass crowd in Toronto on the T4E tour in the summer of 1997. That's the main reason I won't got back to Toronto to see them despite the fact it's an awesome city to visit. Since the VT tour I haven't experienced any trouble with crowds not standing for a Rush show. Even when it's a song most people don't know 95 percent of them still stand for it. It's about respect to me and I think you're disrespecting a band live if you're sitting for most or all of it. Next time you go to see Rush at a state fair, try and score tickets in the track seating section. I was right up in front and it seemed that everyone in track seating was standing up and loving it. This was the best of the 8 times i've seen them. The only question is, now that i've experienced Rush from the front row, how can I go back to sitting somewhere else for one of their shows ever again? Totally...I've been in the 2nd row, and this was like culture shock. Funny that you mention Toronto, I was talking with a guy from there, about the situation, and he actually said that, thats a Canadian thing, They like to sit and watch the show. I like to watch it too...standing, and maybe dancing, not sitting and daydreaming, getting sleepy. My biggest wonder about the whole night was...How did those 2 elephants parked near the concert area enjoy it? They seemed to be happy and dancing as everyone walked passed after the show...
  4. Thanks for understanding.. Ya know this exact same thing happened to me at a Deep Purple/ELP show.. Deep Purple was on, rocking, and the whole freaken place sat down!! So I reluctantly sat with everyone else for a while.. until I myself started realizing I was getting freaken drowsey, and day dreaming. I snapped out of it and was like f*ck this, and got up and danced and rocked out towards the end of a song.. When it was over, Ian waves my way... (I'm way back in one of the last sections) and says hey, at least someone knows how to have a good time). Being a musician myself...I know that one of the best things about performing is watching your music inspire people to get up and dance on pool tables, and do funny things. Thats what it's all about.
  5. The show was indeed awesome. They were outstanding. The crowd in Grandstand 2 was so lame it was pathetic... Afraid to stand or applaud for songs they didn't quite recognize. Lame lame lame... Getting sick of dancing while seated I burst into a jump while Alex ripped out the final parts of the camera eye solo... "Screaming Yeahh Alex, Yeahhhh!!!!" When I sat back down a second later and refocused on the band starting with Neil, it was as if he was just looking at me and was amuzed at my outburst. But I couldnt tell for sure, and doubt it was me he saw... But I was the only one in the whole damn box that seemed to realize how awesome it was that that song had just been performed for us and performed to absolute perfection. No one responded to the line about New Yorkers... No one responded to Faithless, no one responded to everytime Neil caught his sticks after a toss. Zombie's. We needed some south american fans to come and show us how its done. Trying to be fair, I suppose everyone was 'tired' from walking the fair all day and stuffing there faces with ultra-carbo deep-fried goodies... Geddy should have sang.. "a rounded blob of beat New Yorkers" But alas, it was mostly only my stupid section. The rest of the place seemed to be standing and showing due respect more than grandstand 2.. (people behind me had a hissy cause I was still standing at one point) It was also sweltering hot and people were packed in like sweaty sardines. That was a distraction. Wish I could see them again at a better venue. Sound was much better than expected. I was center stage about halfway up the grandstands. A little far.
  6. Lets hope the Native Americans havent closed the thruway down...
  7. Hi Folks. Sounds like thats quite a distance your comming in from. Welcome to NY. Hope you have a great time. As far as the sound goes, I personally dont have high hopes unfortunately. This venue is not even a true amphitheater. I've never been there, but from what I can tell, its wide open with a giant metal grand stand. Seem's like if a venue is going to have uncontrolable sound...this is it. I used to hear complaints back when Rush used to play the Carrier dome in syracuse, the sound was also bad there.
  8. I like to Air 'Snow shoe' in hopes Neil will notice.
  9. Quit freakin wasting my time, moron. Kidding. I can relate. It's a cool part. But I like when they change stuff up a bit too... so it's not like Rush karaoke with the SoH CD playing on the PA.
  10. I hope next they come out with the "Rush punks you and you'll take it" tour.. Setlist1: Rivendell High water Dog Years All of COS Tai Shan Hour break for soup and salads Then Warpaint Faithless Red Tide Nobodys Hero Virtuality Ceiling unlimited Tears The color of right. Oncore: Roll the Bones -the song- complete Cold Fire Good news First. Then they take a bow, give the crowd the finger, and take off...
  11. Yep, I have some from guitar center. I've had them for about 10 years. I forgot them for a show a 2 years ago that really kicked my hearings ass. I was miffed. They work.
  12. Bring Him!! - You can definitely trade him for some awesome front row tix when you get there! They'll probably do an even swap, but bring an extra 50 just incase there front row AND center!!!! How awesome would that be!!
  13. All I know is, as soon as I see them, I start praying in backwards tounges, and I find myself frantically searching for my lost ouiji board.. What did they do to this album cover!!!
  14. QUOTE (Rushgirl @ May 21 2010, 07:47 AM) Ya and their security are a bunch of D**Ks too!!!!!!!! Still, they play Buffalo, I will go!!!!!!!! My sentiments exactly. Also the way everyone is "corralled" into the seating area through little gates, like a bunch of sheep, is rediculous. Also the laser light show at the other end of the park can be seen and sometimes heard if your on the lawn. Its a cheesy half assed venue IMO. They just redid the Amphitheater in Canandaigua, NY which is south of Rochester. They should totally play that place. It's near the figerlakes, and is just way better place to see a band like Rush.
  15. QUOTE (RushFanForever @ May 19 2010, 02:05 PM) Rush are now naming songs like Prince, Van Halen and Cream: Cream - 'NSU' and 'SWLABR' Van Halen - '5150' (album title) 'OU812' (album title) and "A.F.U. (Naturally Wired)" song. Prince - 'F.U.N.K.', 'S.S.T' And Zappa: R D N Z L That made me always want to name a song P R N D 1 2
  16. I'm drifting a little off topic here, but I had an interesting daydream about the show.., based on some posts here... This time behind Geddy is a ginormous time machine contraption thing. Something they can walk into one end of, and out of the other. And after the first hour they all run one at a time through the time machine.. Inside they do one of those ultra fast change of clothes thing... For the few moments of time warping, the thing can flash and make unusual noises, while the others play away. maybe they go from a vintage 80's start, to Kimono's for Hour #2..then into the time machine again...for yet another change of clothes...maybe slitting the last hour up between, jeans and t-shirts for some stuff off the first 3 albums, to Contemporary, to end the show with some modern pieces. Just daydreaming...sorry..
  17. I think they will need to tweak it, to ramp up the songs live energy. The TCE is very much a 'studio magic' song. One of those magic songs that really moves you in its recorded album version instead of the other way around, where the live versions bring the studio verion to life. I'm guessing thats why it was always shunned as an addition to a tours setlist. But if they rearrange it...we might get all the fun and sounds of TCE, with an added emotional charge that might not otherwise happen if the all the measures roll on just as they were put down on tape. A rush only rush can provide.
  18. QUOTE (Todem @ May 10 2010, 01:18 PM) I think they play both verses no question. I think they cut the transition out of the first suite into the second suite down several measures. I don't think it is going to be as bad as some might think. Plus we are getting Jacobs Ladder!!!!!!!!!! And plenty of other suprises I am sure. I agree with this.. Maybe there nipping 30 seconds of 'traffic noise' at the beginning of the song. It always sounded, to me, like the game "Freeway" on Atari 2600.. Which I thought was cool.
  19. A few years back at the Darien Lakes venue in Western NY, I found out that you could stroll up to the rear doors of the lawn area, from the outside and see clearly down to the stage. It was , about 3:30 to 4ish maybe.. I spied a soundcheck to the R30 tour, and I think I saw S&A too I've known about this for a few shows. It wasn't really all that interesting. But still kind of a cool sneak peek.
  20. Lit up with anticipation We arrive at the ticket counter. The sky is still dark, nearing dawn and it's almost pre-sale time.. Tickets shoppers, Lines out of site You hope you have the beans This magic day when a little trying Helps you score some really awesome seats... Way out in the Hazy distance some grandstand seats for coming show Venting frustration, you try again for the best seat and price bargain.. You grab some lawn seats, near the fence, Resume the tour countdown Message board check, TRF is fine, The fans and the drama start about Your card is charged. Your paying out of your ass No drinks and no camera's The cars and the partying fans Excitement so thick, you could cut it with a knife.. You pause and get high, For the best show of your whole life The seats beneath us start to tremble, the spreading of a low bass sound A thunderous roar shakes the air as, the crowd goes nuts for Tom Sawyer... Neil's having a Blast, Ged's on fire As the show gets off the ground Alex tears away with a mighty force And the air is shattered by the awesome sound Like a pillar of cloud The pot smoke lingers high in the air In fascination With the eyes of cool fans We stare...
  21. QUOTE (FootballYouBet @ Apr 28 2010, 11:16 AM) I'm an audio engineer and used to mix FOH for a living. While being up close(1st several rows) puts you closer to the artist, it also puts you in a hole in the sound between what's actually coming off the stage(which often sounds horrible) and what's coming off the main speaker stacks. In other words, the sound usually blows there, especially for someone like me that HATES bad sound. Then of course as someone else said, you don't get the full effect of the light show either. And that is why I prefer being about a dozen rows back. For the Boston show, I am sitting 13th row center. Yep, that's exactly what I've found. I've spent all night starring at Alex from 2 rows back. But that same tour I had a much better show sitting about 17 rows back in the center. That was at Montage Mountain, in Pa. for the VT tour.
  22. I love the deal with new- unheard of songs.... thats hasn't happened in a very long time.. I remember some old interview with them talking about playing Tom Sawyer live for audiences before MP came out. So that in itself is like a Time Machine back to 1980-81. I just wonder how I'm going to be able to understand them...Usually takes me 2 or 3 listens to really hear a song. Especialy songs as deep as there's. I also wonder if they'll put Tom Sawyer at the end of the set, as it almost was on the original album..
  23. I think it would be kind of cool to be in a band that could draw a decent crowd because of their great music. Then turn around and be like, alright all ye music stealin' arseholes... Come one and all to see our show. Rock out to some tunes and then get the arses back to yer homestead. Givin' us all yer loot on the way!! Haaar haaar!!!! I think that would be fun as hell.. I think the OP is just jealous because he's not in said band.
  24. And now, I gave in and bought a ticket in the grandstand. I have the feeling though, that maybe I should have waited a few more days, What if they fill up the grandstands then eventually fill in the misc. available seats in the front sections? I'll be pissed. I'll have to check in a few more days... If it's the case, I suppose I have plenty of time to sell my old ticket on CL, and get a better one. My first frustration is that I'm sure I selected free home delivery by regular mail, yet I ended up with Pick-up at a retail outlet, which costs me 3.00 more!!! + gas to go get them, wtf!
  25. I'm just trying to find one ticket, and am thinking of settling for the grandstand seating and bringing my binoculars. I clicked on the link for the VIP package, willing to possibly purchase it, but there was no link to see how much it cost or anything. Are they all bought up for this show?
