The veins on my hands stand out. I mean, THEY FREAKIN' STAND THE HELL OUT OF MY HANDS! That can't be good. http://www.therushforum.com/html/emoticons/no.gif

Six hours of sleep doesn't cut it. I need a nap when I get home, damn it.

1980 was yesterday. Deal with it.

You're not old, sweetie ~ you're improving!

Every smile line has a story behind it.

Every vein that stands out pulses with the spirit that makes you who you are!

Embrace who you are and what you've become ~ you're beautiful, inside and out; and no one can take that away from you.

Much Love to you S http://www.therushforum.com/html/emoticons/heart.gif

You guys are so sweet. http://www.therushforum.com/html/emoticons/hug2.gif

What made me post this was a conversation I had with my big sister. She was complaining about being almost completely grey. She said, "I'm only 16 years old! How can I be totally grey?" http://www.therushforum.com/html/emoticons/laugh.gif (She's actually 44. http://www.therushforum.com/html/emoticons/tongue.gif )

The veins in my hands are really disturbing, though. I know it's normal and nothing to really worry about. It's just one of those things that sneaks up on you and makes you painfully aware of the fact that time isn't standing still.

The part about 1980 also came from the conversation with my big sis. We're having a hard time coming to terms with the fact that not only was 1980 30 years ago, but that it was in another millenium. We've lived to see the turn of a century. That seemed creepy to us.

BTW, my elbows do look like elephant knees. Wrinkly and loose. Blah.

Also, without warning or previous sight issues, I became far-sighted when I turned 40. I have to wear reading glasses to eat, or my plate is a blur. http://www.therushforum.com/html/emoticons/wtf.gif

But, alas, you're right Sirius. That guy did like my feet. That was weird, though. http://www.therushforum.com/html/emoticons/laugh.gif

Other things I hate about getting old:

Noticing good looking guys and wondering if they're too young for me. http://www.therushforum.com/html/emoticons/eh.gif

My rear-end. End of story.

Starting stories with the phrase, "I remember when..." Holy crap.

I eat oatmeal for breakfast to reduce my cholesterol. That's really f*cked up.

I do relate very very well to what you are saying!

Just last week my oldest daughter and I were watching wedding singer and she turns to me as say it must have been cool to be in the "80's" & see all that old stuff! http://www.therushforum.com/html/emoticons/doh.gif

No matter what stage we are in...we have to try and hold on to the best is yet to come!

The 80's rocked. These kids have NO IDEA! http://www.therushforum.com/html/emoticons/old.gif

"laugh lines" http://www.therushforum.com/html/emoticons/sarcasm.gif

No shit. I sure as hell am not laughing. Don't have the lines around the eyes or mouth much, but I do have what I call my "parentheses". I've always had them, and how charming to know they will only grow more pronounced.

Ditto on the veins. I love my mom, but have never been happy about inheriting the veiny hands. I've always had sort of "alien hands" anyway - very bony with long, long fingers. I hate them.

At least I am an A-cup boob-wise: nothing to sag to my waist when I'm older!

My vision changing is the most annoying thing for me so far as aging goes. (i'm 42) - I'm always walking around with reading glasses hanging off one ear or the end of my nose. I need reading glasses to paint my nails - how sad is that!!

Yeah, I'm also 42. I started wearing the glasses last year when I found I had a hard time focusing on the computer screen at work. It's gone down hill since then, and I suppose it's because the glasses are weakening my eyes. That, and the 10-12 hours a day looking at a computer screen. But, to have it happen kind of out of the blue was unsettling. I'm trying to appreciate the trade-offs of getting older, but disturbing things happen between being in your 30's and leaving them behind. I don't want to be vain when it comes to aging, but this really sucks. Me no likey. http://www.therushforum.com/html/emoticons/no.gif

Okay. About the boob thing. It's the thing I hate the absolute most about getting older. I was 36-24-36 at one, long lost point in my life. I'm not about to give my measurements now, but breast-feeding a total of 35 months of my life between three kids seemed like a good idea at the time. Now, I don't regret nursing my kids, but damn. The "fall-out," let's call it, is pretty pronouced now. I don't have breasts. I have udders. http://www.therushforum.com/html/emoticons/laugh.gif

I hate having to color my hair every six weeks so I don't look like I'm 80.

I hate that you can't lose weight and men just don't get it because they can drop it at will.

I don't have the boob thing going yet, but my underarms flap like seals flippers.

I hate getting old.

Live long enough and your vision may improve. This happened to my grandmother. She wore glasses to read, sew, etc., through most of her 50's-70's. She is glasses-free now at 91. http://www.therushforum.com/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Ya' know? I have to say, the fact that you are the only guy chiming in here and having positive things to say is encouraging. I guess a lot of the insecurities of getting older have to do with the perception of men. Like it or not, we women are subject to a lot of unrealistic perceptions brought forth by the "Hollywood" standard of being forever young and skinny and smooth-skinned and all that bull. It is, no matter how ridiculous, a factor in how I feel about myself. I'd like to grow old gracefully, if only that dumbass Angelina Jolie would do the same.

OK, I'm a 43-year old guy and I can relate to some of this. Why do I need to sleep so much now? I used to do fine with 4-5 hours through my 20's. My back hurts to beat hell sometimes and I do walk/shuffle like Mr. Ozbourne on bad days... etc.

My wife just turned 47 on Christmas Eve (good thing she doesn't hang out here to see I just told her age... http://www.therushforum.com/html/emoticons/laugh.gif ) She mentions some of the same things, but I think she is beautiful, energetic, and fun to be with. (Hey, we both rocked the '80's and we still rock. http://www.therushforum.com/html/emoticons/1022.gif ) ... She's old enough to know what to do, and young enough to do it again.

I've looked for glasses that were already on my face http://www.therushforum.com/html/emoticons/bekloppt.gif

I can't remember what I ate for breakfast on Saturday, but I can remember things from first grade. What is that? http://www.therushforum.com/html/emoticons/confused13.gif

I'm not as "graceful" http://www.therushforum.com/html/emoticons/z7shysterical.gif as I used to be

I threw my scale in the garbage approximately 1997

(when I was about 28)

as long as I fit in my clothes - I'm fine.

Just a thought for those worrying about getting older....

My wife is 51 years old (I'm her toyboy at 42 http://www.therushforum.com/html/emoticons/wink.gif ).

Up until the age of 41, she was the most dynamic, physically active person you could meet. Her hobbies included jungle treking in Indonesia and skydiving (freefall) every weekend. Age was the last thing on her mind.

Flash forward ten years and due to an accident at work she is pretty much wheelchair bound and lives with constant pain. I can assure you that she would swap places in an instant with those of you whose main concerns with aging are wrinkled elbows and laughter lines and back twinges.

However, I still love her as much as when we first met. Men are not as idiotic as you might think, and we tend to fall for the whole package. We don't pick out bits of you that we like oe don't like selectively.

I've no desire to come across as arsey at all here, but if you have your health, are mobile, and can do most of the things you want to then you are most certainly not old....
