The Things I Hate About Getting Old

Just a thought for those worrying about getting older....

My wife is 51 years old (I'm her toyboy at 42 http://www.therushforum.com/html/emoticons/wink.gif ).

Up until the age of 41, she was the most dynamic, physically active person you could meet. Her hobbies included jungle treking in Indonesia and skydiving (freefall) every weekend. Age was the last thing on her mind.

Flash forward ten years and due to an accident at work she is pretty much wheelchair bound and lives with constant pain. I can assure you that she would swap places in an instant with those of you whose main concerns with aging are wrinkled elbows and laughter lines and back twinges.

However, I still love her as much as when we first met. Men are not as idiotic as you might think, and we tend to fall for the whole package. We don't pick out bits of you that we like oe don't like selectively.

I've no desire to come across as arsey at all here, but if you have your health, are mobile, and can do most of the things you want to then you are most certainly not old....

Three cheers for Fridge!!!

And BTW . . . , like I had to tell the Tortoise, . . . you aren't considered a boy-toy anymore when you hit the forty-ish zone!!! http://www.therushforum.com/html/emoticons/wink.gif

Luckily  for me I have a bald back and chest and arms, but more hair on my head than a pack of wolves and posse of bears shitting in the woods together...

I still have all my hair and hardly any of it has turned gray, so i'm good with that. Now... if I could trade that for perfect vision again, I would in a heartbeat.

Vision is to be appreciated by everyone, but being a printer and a hobbyist photographer, it annoys me even more that I am steadily getting worse. I sometimes wonder if the increase of computer usage in the last five years of my life has had anything to do with it. http://www.therushforum.com/html/emoticons/confused13.gif

Just now, I went to take a nice, relaxing, hot bath and read a little. Well, the glasses fogged up immediately so were no use, and my eyes suck so much without them now... it was just pointless. So there goes another treat that growing old has taken from me. http://www.therushforum.com/html/emoticons/laugh.gif

But Fridge's point does sink home. Even with recent surgeries and the advent of diabetes and high blood pressure, i'm still relatively healthy, and if I can control those other problems, there's not too much to bitch about.

I just find women in general to be really something special and they don't have to be beauty queens for me to find them attractive, or to have a long lasting relationship for years on end.

http://www.therushforum.com/html/emoticons/trink39.gif Cheers to women, 'cause they rock the world! http://www.therushforum.com/html/emoticons/1022.gif

I couldn't put it any better than that. They truly are the "better half."

Body hair on older guys... yeah. I thought having some Native American blood would have saved me from that, but no. I somehow means I don't really have much hair on my arms, but elsewhere, forget it. It's weird.

Im thinning on top, but otherwise feel pretty good. But i have been thinking about my health more in recent years, seeing friends and relatives get sick. When i was in my 20s, all of this never crossed my mind.

This is a good topic to discuss. We are all in the same boat.

^^^^^or back hair!  http://www.therushforum.com/html/emoticons/scared.gif GAAAA!!!

Dig the MuMu, Janie!!! (and forgive me if that is not what it is!)  http://www.therushforum.com/html/emoticons/smile.gif

Or a hairy butt! http://www.therushforum.com/html/emoticons/tongue.gif

The day I have a hairy butt, I'm officially throwing in the towel. http://www.therushforum.com/html/emoticons/laugh.gif

Although, being able to hide under winter clothes and not having to shave legs n' stuff has left me kinda Yeti-ish. So, who am I to talk?

So as men get older they start turning into Yeti's?

Sort of. We don't lose hair. It just moves from the top of our heads to other places on our bodies where we don't want it.

Ah yes... the phenomenon I call The Retreating Hairline.

All I know is I hope when I get to be my mom's age (51) I still look that great. She still looks like she's in her 30s and her partner is quite a bit younger than her which I guess makes her a cougar. http://www.therushforum.com/html/emoticons/laugh.gif http://www.therushforum.com/html/emoticons/wub.gif

...so that's not a pic of you in your profile I assume then... lol

hey that pic in your sig, the piece with the star in it kinda looks like an "f" so I keep reading it as "FART is action without violence" just thought I'd share... lol

Fridge really put in perspective for me. I look at myself as the years pile on and my back/neck injuries worsen. I'm just hoping that I make it to see my kids get married. Anything after that is just pure gravy.

No that's not a pic of me on my profile. I'm considerably younger with a lot of hair on my head and have all my teeth. http://www.therushforum.com/html/emoticons/tongue.gif

Ya it actually says ART is action without violence but I think it's funny people keep seeing it as FART. http://www.therushforum.com/html/emoticons/laugh.gif
