Worked from home today so it was back to the moving box's again for whatever random vinyl that was next out.  First out:

Brahms - The 4 Brahms Symphonies

A box'ed set containing Brahms symphonies #'s 1, 2, 3 & 4.  Classical music is generally enjoyable and this was not an exception to the rule.  Good stuff.  Don't ask which was best - they were all fun to listen to.  Next out of the moving box:

Kiss - Animalize

A bit of a change in tempo here!!  Not a big Kiss fan (I got this used in the early 1990's for $3.99) but it does have "Heavens on Fire" on it.  Decent song.  It also had a couple of other songs that I don't recall ever getting airplay but they were decent as well.  The first was the first song on the album "I've Had Enough (Into The Fire)".  Lyrics are not great but good music I can bang my head to.  The other song is on side 2 and its "Thrills In The Night".  Decent (by the standards of Kiss) lyrics and music that goes well with the lyrics.  Decent song.  The other songs on the album were filler (IMO) though.  Last out of the moving box today:

Iron Maiden - No Prayer for the Dying

This was the first Maiden album without Adrian Smith and with Janick Beers.  After the run of # of The Best / Peace of Mind / Powerslave / Somewhere in Time / 7th Son of a 7th Son they were eventually going to get an album that just did not measure up to what had come before and this is generally assumed to be it.  But you know something?  I kind of like this album.  I do agree its not at the same level as those albums that came before it but its sill darn good.  Album starts with "Tailgunner" which is decent.  Then you get the song that IMO is the best on the album and that is "Holy Smoke".  Follow that up with title track which is decent.  Then you have "Public Enema # 1" which is filler (IMO) and side 1 closes with "Fates Warning" which is also decent (the verses aint great but the chorus saves the song).  Side 2 starts with "The Assassin" which is filler (IMO), and which is followed by the ok "Run Silent Run Deep".  Thats followed by more filler "Hooks in You" and another decent song "Bring you Daughter To The Slaughter".  The album closes with "Mother Russia" which is the best of the filler material.

So 6 decent songs and 4 that are filler (although the best of those is almost ok - so its actually hard to call it totally filler).  Not on the level of the Maiden albums that came before but not bad.  Any album with 6 good  / decent songs is not a bad album.

Obviously the Maiden album was way better that the Kiss album.  Don't ask me to compare the classical to the metal albums - I just can't do it.  Best song form the Maiden and Kiss albums?  Easy - Holy Smoke.

In Love And Death is one of my absolute fave albums of the 2000s, close to the top spot for 2004 as well. I love their first two albums so much, they overshadow the remainder of their discography by a wide margin.

What surprised me though was how much I just enjoyed their recent album MEDZ.

Bruce Springsteen- Darkness On The Edge Of Town

Bruce Springsteen- The River

Taylor Swift- The Tortured Poets Department

Taylor Swift- Midnghts

After finally seeing Taylor Swift live on Sunday (I've been a fan since 2008 so it's been a long time coming), I feel I love her more than ever, and truly connect with her more than ever before. Only other artist that matches her for me is Springsteen.

So that's currently all I'm listening too 🤣

I haven’t heard any of their other records yet, but I do love this one. I hadn’t spun in in many months probably. Excellent on revisit. Just what I needed.

I haven’t forgotten, I’ve just been waiting for the right opportunity and mood to listen to it.

It's different than everything else they've done. They're definitely being more experimental musically but also being more upfront and honest lyrically. You will probably dig it since they are taking some chances on this one.

The debut self titled is fantastic and way more spontaneous. Not knocking their subsequent career, it's just there first two albums are chaotic and don't feel forced. All else after felt too produced or too forced, without ever being bad.

In Love And Death and Three Cheers have a very comparable manic energy, which makes sense as they were all close friends at the time.

I do loooove Three Cheers. I’ll have to check out their debut! I knew they were close, as I’d heard their cover of Under Pressure before. Ironically though (probably just my Queen/Bowie bias showing) I don’t think their version really works for me?

I love when bands take chances!

Early Used and MCR have similarities and I love them both! MCR however had the better third album, not even slightly close.

To be fair, most bands don’t have a record that competes with The Black Parade.

They were neck and neck til them. The third The Used album is still a lot of fun though! Recommend it just for the bops.

Fleet Foxes...my heart.

There most recent album, Shore, is emerging as my favourite. Such a pretty, ambient album with wonderful, early Fleetwood Mac like hooks
