I have memories of my dad (RIP) working in the gas station / repair shop he owned with this man in the background. His music makes me remember warm summer days in the 70s without a care in the world. 1

I actually felt last years The God Machine was a bit of a letdown, but it was universally acclaimed and treated as a return to form. I thought it sounded like a bunch of demos with lacklustre production, and it felt very samey. But I enjoyed this album a lot! 100% agree. Nothing after ANATO has been as good as the strong albums that came before. I also agree that The Machine was a let down. Great vocals - thats a given - but otherwise a dud to my ears. I have watched a recent show on youtube and even the live performance of the songs from The God Machine did not thrill me. 1

Maybe adoration for it has calmed down, but last year all I saw was excessive praise! 1

Segue Myles Posted October 24, 2023 Posted October 24, 2023 Dream Theater- A View From The Top Of The World I read an interview where the band discussed this album being criticised for sounding "too Dream Theater". I am sure I have had issues before with bands releasing albums that are so uninspired and recycled sounding, I lament that they sound too much of the same old same old (the last couple of Kansas comes to mind, or even KK Priest, who sound like a lame caricature of a much better band), but I just can't say I feel that way here. This is a beautiful sounding album with great songs, ideas and melodies. You can't please everyone though. 2

I think It's Only Rock N Roll has a good cover too. But most of their covers are just meh to me. 1
