I stumbled upon this video of the Equals featuring a blond Eddy Grant in an orange suit. In this clip Eddy is doing things with a guitar that I've never seen anyone do before, including Eddie Van Halen.

Sure, the main melody comes from the piano part, but darn if Steve didn't make it totally his own in that moment.

Great thread to bring back! :)

Yeah yeah Tommy Shaw joining was what really brought Styx into their own blah blah blah. JAMES YOUNG was the most sorely overlooked member of the band through their golden period! Tommy could've taken the solo in his massive hit Renegade, but he gave it to JY. Why? Just listen, it's pretty dang clear.

Both great guitarists, but JY's solos always seem to be better and Half-Penny and Renegade are 2 prime examples of this

Also Tommy and JY back and forth solos in Ballerina - gottdamm fantastic

Most of my favourite solos are by Holdsworth. Bradford Exec, Zarabeth, City Nights, Ruhkukah. Too man to mention. I love Van Halen' s solos too. He had (brown ere) the whole package. Most of the solos up to 1984 are one of a kind. The Painkiller solo always got me too. So good.

The jam with Holdsworth and Eddie is fantastic. They were good friends.Wish they collaborated properly with an album release.
