Is there an acoustic cover? Can it be appreciated for the melody alone?

Oh god, there are multiple acoustic covers...

Oh man, this changes everything! I love it now...

could this be one of those tonally ambiguous posts? Is there sarcasm? Is it sincere? Always leave them wondering.

Have you ever seen musicians looking less thrilled?

There's nothing like an acoustic (or classical) rendering to confirm a rock/pop song for what it is.

[also ambiguous]

I'll give you one guess about what goddamned song has been running through my head for the last 10 minutes...

I just came into this thread to say if you get this song stuck in my head I will end you.

You know...virtually...however that works.

And you know what? That would be vengeance completely deserved. I'm just now plotting the demise of the f***ing "Moon Loungers."

Note to any law enforcement who might be reading this: It's just a joke. But seriously, have you watched that video?

It's f***ing retarded.......though I don't think it's quite as awful as Nothings Gonna Stop Us Now.

Both are awful, but for different reasons. Nothing's Gonna Stop Us is the typical movie soundtrack power ballad written by hit single specialist Diane Warren and performed by a once great '70s rock band (Aerosmith's Don't Wanna Miss a Thing is another example). Starship gets a demerit for actually recording it and having their name attached to it (similarly, Aerosmith will never live down that piece of shit song from Armageddon).

We Built This City is bad because A) it's just bloody bad, and B) it's supposed to be about a rock band protesting the corporate music world -- could this power pop non-rock and roll song sound any more corporate?

Um...I had no idea what you were talking about...so I looked it up.

Thanks for nothing...now I have to track you down and kill you.

You'll have to get in line.

Actually . . . what's your preferred method? I could move you up.

Why bother if someone is going to do it for me?

I mean, revenge is revenge, and if the outcome is the same then why get my hands dirty?

Revenge by proxy? That is so bogus.

Also a cool band name.

A new interview with Bernie Taupin from Rolling Stone magazine here. The following comment stands out:

Not all of the songs were written for Elton John. Taupin also dug out the manuscripts for Heart’s “These Dreams” and Starship’s “We Built This City.” The latter has been named as one of the worst songs of all time. “It’s been a good little money-earner,” says Taupin. “So I’m not going to knock it. The original demo was a very dark song about how the clubs in L.A. were closing and this was my statement about it. Peter Wolf took it into the study and made it into this pop anthem. Hey, good luck to him. That was great. Thank you very much.”

A great straight forward fun pop-rock anthem, bonus points when the "local" version is played.

I was a DJ on college radio when this song was big. We had a custom version where our traffic guy did the banter.

Got calls for it all the time.
