According to IMDb there's the original which started in the 60s and the modern starting in 2005. Are you picking both? In the 70s I loved watching Doctor Who on Saturday nights pre-hockey. Not sure which doctor it was (Tom Baker?). Tried watching whichever Doctor Who modern audiences were recently gaga over and I just couldn't get into it.

118-- The Wayne & Shuster Show (1955-1985). A sketch comedy show starring Johnny Wayne and Frank Shuster. Another one of my pre-Saturday hockey shows. This funny and smart Canadian comedy duo appeared on Ed Sullivan more often than any other act-- 67 times. SNL's Lorne Michaels is Shuster's son-in-law.

121) Fear Factor

 

Yes, this was a controversial show and yes I liked it anyway because it was so much fun to watch. The show unfortunately somehow got the reputation of being "that show where people ate really gross stuff" however, that was only one aspect to the show. There were some really cool stunts you had to complete and this show put contestants through the ringer to separate the boys from men and girls from women. Unlike Survivor, Big Brother and other reality shows this one never over stayed it's welcome but it was a blast while it lasted.

One of the very few shows I remember my parents ever banning from our house. They were pretty laid back, but this one was just too out-of-line for them. Can't say I blame them, as it was quite a shock compared to the standard milquetoast sitcoms of the 80s. Married With Children might have set a new low in terms of risque, dirty TV comedy; but man, it was funny. Between Al's sharp witted insults, the constant on-point parody of 'modern' life, and a fair amount of very well executed slapstick; there was no shortage of laughs. Wtih its age, the humor may have lost its edge, but in its era, there was just nothing like Married With Children.

128-- Late Night With David Letterman (1982-1993)/ Late Show With David Letterman (1993-2015). Never saw his short-lived morning show. His 80s late night show was the best, as good as Carson. Once he moved he was still as good as anyone else but somewhat muted, like most late night TV.

In keeping with the late night theme, MG was originally broadcast at midnight on TV Tokyo, and has had a run of 5 seasons in Japan ... The show took real life otherwise sugary all girl pop group AKB48 and put them in the violent and dramatic set of all girl gangs in high school .. The members actually fought, did their own stunts and some were extremely convincing ... Very violent with some supernatural overtones

The greatest and longest running sitcom of all time. There is hardly any facet of modern American culture that hasn't been both lampooned and influenced by the Simpsons. Though it's probably outlived its best days, the show gave us dozens upon dozens of absolute classic episodes, and had about a ten year run of animated comedy supremacy that I don't think will ever be touched.

Well-said. I watched a good YouTube documentary about the decline of the Simpsons. From 1990 through at least 1997 every season was simply perfection.

 

It's a shame the group participation aspect of these threads will result in The Big Bang Theory (hooray laughtracks!) ranking higher than the longest running sitcom ever
