Don't wish to brag but I played in a lead, bass, and drums outfit and we NAILED Carry on Wayward Sons without keyboards. Me and the bass player and the drummer doing the 3 part harmonies without the need for the lead singer. People said to me that I did a great job to cover all of the guitar work without keyboards but Alex was my hero and being influenced by him gave me the ability to work out a song for both the guitar and keyboard parts. a good effects board with chorus and echo and a good amp (Classic Marshall JMP 100) helped.

Right now (ignoring The Doors who for me take all three available spaces):

1. Foreigner

2. No Doubt

3. Toto

I don't know why this was so hard for me.

I know I said The Doors.

Then Toto, Foreigner and No Doubt.

But forgive me I sinned.

Best US rock bands:

1. Thrice

2. The Juliana Theory

3. Jimmy Eat World

AFI fourth. The Doors fifth.

I was a fool.

Today, it's:

The Doors

The Allman Bros

Pearl Jam

On any given day, it could include:

The Smashing Pumpkins

Van Halen

Guns N Roses

Soundgarden

Alice in Chains

And probably a few others

One I'd like to mention Extreme.

Get the Funk out of here!!!!!

Yeh got the album, saw them at Newcastle upon Tyne City Hall December 1993

Sort of Van Halen meets Chic

Nuno's solo on Get The Funk Out was described by my bass player as "Joe Perry on steroids" ha ha

A lot of American bands burnt out very fast. Very fast.

The Velvet Underground

The Stooges

New York Dolls

Big Star

All massive influences. All seminal bands. All around for a very short time.

Top 3? For now:

Ramones

R.E.M.

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

thanks dude cool!

I am trying to look beyond my bias here because Alex and EVH are my two heroes on guitar

Nuno vs Eddie

Sound wise they both sound brilliant, a photo finish

Technical playing - again too close to call.

Rhythmic sensibility - got to go with Nuno over Eddie on this one. He is so tight as a ducks chuff playing stuff like this.

All round innovation and influence - No contest its Eddie all the way

Again just my opinion

I'll go with Pixies, Nirvana, and Aerosmith through Draw the Line.

Lots of great ones though. Hurt leaving behind Big Star; they were something special. And early Cars, B-52s, REM, etc etc.
