Black Book is phenomenal. Carice van Houten has gone on to find worldwide fame in Game Of Thrones but she was phenomenal in this movie. Everyone I have introduced this film to fell in love with her and the movie itself! I discovered it the year it came out when every review seemed to give it 4 or 5 stars. I expected a boring European movie with amazing acting (let's face it...there's a lot of these haha!). Instead it felt like a perfect example of everything Hollywood war movies claim to be but rarely are.

Did you watch that Black Book trailer?

I did. I watched it when you first mentioned it then again just now. It looks like a suspenseful, dramatic version of that French girl's story in Inglourious Basterds. Actually it wasn't like it at all since Black Book looked good.

 

You're correct! I felt watching IB that it was a poor remake of Black Book bogged down by lots of crazy side plots.

 

Black Book is phenomenal. Carice van Houten has gone on to find worldwide fame in Game Of Thrones but she was phenomenal in this movie. Everyone I have introduced this film to fell in love with her and the movie itself! I discovered it the year it came out when every review seemed to give it 4 or 5 stars. I expected a boring European movie with amazing acting (let's face it...there's a lot of these haha!). Instead it felt like a perfect example of everything Hollywood war movies claim to be but rarely are.

That's where I've seen her! She's the hot, naked red head in GoT!!! But yeah, it looks good.

 

IB is like some confusing comic book overloaded with colorful splash pages and no substance. If Tarantino were smart he would've focused on her story alone...or at least, the Basterds story by itself.

 

That Jewish girls story was wonderful. The Basterds could have been cut from the movie and I don't think anyone would have noticed anything missing.

Agreed. That opening scene was deceptive. I still love that scene...but then it becomes a mess. I sort of love the movie but hate it too!

 

Black Book all the way. The man who directed Showgirls made a better movie than Tarantino. And, in my opinion, most other directors.

The third film of my all-time (time travel) favourites.

Even if I don't like Brad Pitt that much, I must admit that he totally confinced me in 12 Monkeys. Terry Gilliam did all around a great job on this film. Good story, surreal pictures, fantastic score and a great cast (especially Bruce Willis and Madeleine Stowe)... Easy in my top ten!
