  1. I guess I need to adopt Utah as my 3rd favorite team. I am obviously a Wild fan, but I was born in Buffalo and my early childhood was informed by Perrault, Robert, and Martin, the French Connection. So they are number two. We moved to Salt Lake City when I was 8 and I grew up there and am a Ute alum and attended countless Stockton-Malone games, mostly at the Salt Palace, where the Salt Lake Golden Eagles were the minor league hockey team. I'm still dreading that they are going to choose a dumb name for the club, though. I was really, really hoping for Golden Eagles, although that would look to derivative of Vegas now, to those that don't know the SLC history. Back in the day we were farm club for the California Golden Seals. Remember them? I do. And I remember the KC Scouts.

  2. AI, Schmay-eye. I have a fetish for Catrina art and I don't care if a human draws such females or programs a computer to draw them well. The song isn't Freewill, but better than 99% of the garbage autotuned aural miasma out there now.

  3. I'm not dead! I'm not! I'm getting better! I don't want to go on the cart! I feel fine! I think I'll go for a walk. [singing] I feel happy! I feel happy!

  4. The setlist has been the same for the whole tour so far. I don't think it's going to change every show like it used to when Portnoy did it before. I think this will help out James voice a lot by knowing what he's going to be singing at every show and he can make adjustments vocally if something isn't sounding right or he's having a hard time with hitting certain notes.

  5. I saw them for the 4th time last night in Toronto and they were amazing as usual. It was the last show of the 2024 tour and was notable because they played "Apologize" for the first time.

  15. Doesn't surprise me. Kevin Shirley may have engineered a great sounding album, but I'm not a fan of his input on the production side of things, such as the way he kept Al from using any effects on that album. I LOVE Al's effects, he's always been tasteful with them and they've never been over the top. Pushing Ged away from the Wal would be right in line with that mentality.

  16. I loved the sound of the Wal—a modern, Fusion bass tone inspired by Jaco and I think it bought out some of Geddy’s best bass playing. Apparently, Kevin Shirley hated it and he was the catalyst in getting Geddy to pull out his old Fender Jazz.

  18. From what I’ve seen I’m not sure anyone does more work than James LaBrie on maintaining their voice and training for it. Doesn’t mean he gets the best results, but I doubt he could try any harder to do any better. He’s old, has been singing some of the hardest material in metal for decades, and mostly after sustaining what realistically should have been a career ending vocal injury in 96. I don’t terribly mind hearing him struggle personally, same way I didn’t mind hearing Geddy struggle on later live stuff. But I get it if you do.

  19. Thanks for posting that. I have a proposal for the hockey gods: let's have MAF's final game be winning a Stanley Cup for Minny. Sounds good, right?
