  1. Hi, First post! Thought I'd share some pics of Alex playing the Supermarket in Toronto a few nights ago. RR Edit, I should add that this was for a CD release party for Karem Malicki-Sanchez. Alex produced and played on his CD! http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e25/redcirclestar/Alex1_zpsb779bdc2.jpg http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e25/redcirclestar/Alex2_zpse222303a.jpg http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e25/redcirclestar/AlexattheSupermarket_zpsaa0993b7.jpg

  2. It is an amazing thread, isn't it? And it is a thread that should be copied out and bound, and then handed to Alex, Geddy and Neil so that they know, I mean REALLY know, what their music has meant to and done for more than a few of their fans. I love this, I really wish the boys could know how much they mean to all of us. I just revisited this thread and it was still a very emotional read for me, so many things that we share in our aloneness.

  3. Yup, parenting (well) is tough. It's about sacrifice of all kinds: time, money, dreams, fantasies... Kids can suck it all up and not even know they are doing it just by merely existing. In my early 20's, I was with a girl who told me it was physically impossible for her to get pregnant due to an extreme situation (putting it mildly here). We agreed that should the impossible happen, that due to our current situation (I was just starting college, both working at McHell, barely eking by in a 500 sq. ft. apt. and my absolute certainty that I would resent the little interloper immensely as I had a lot of selfish wants to accomplish first) we would opt out ASAP. Of course, as fate (and my super sperm) would have it, in our 2nd year together she got preggofied. We followed through and terminated immediately within the first 4 weeks; a horrible procedure to be sure, but one that I still believe should be available to those who choose it. We were together another 6 years before our relationship also was terminated. Fast forward to 6 years ago, after I truly & finally DID meet my soulmate, and we have somehow been blessed and graced with the most beautiful child born out of love (I remember looking in the mirror after the night of passion, and absolutely KNOWING that we had just created life; true story); so much more than I could have possibly imagined. Every day, my single best joy is feeling the absolute love emanating from within our little angel. Watching her grow, helping her along the way, and just being there with her - we laugh a LOT. Nothing else comes close to beating the absolute joy and love I feel when both my wife and daughter are sleeping with their heads on my shoulders; It's an amazing feeling that I wish the entire world could feel somehow - I think we'd all be much better off for it.

  9. Ah, yes, why can't everyone do what I want them to do? Don't they know that it's what I want that really matters the most? Why hasn't anyone informed them?? These kids, who can make sounds, and can move around...it's just terrible. :eyeroll: I know of one couple who I wish had decided to stay "child free." The worst are the kids that get their feelings hurt way to easily, and say "im never going to talk to you again!!!", but somehow can never follow through because they love attention far to much Because you NEVER said that when you were 6 did you? I think you missed the joke here Upon second reading, yes. Yes I have.

  11. I've just read this thread in full for the first time, and I must say, this is better than any book I've ever read or any movie I've ever watched. It takes a lot for something to really move me, but here I found myself fighting back tears of joy, sadness and hope throughout. My heart genuinely goes out to all of you who have opened up on this thread, if I or anyone else needs motivation ever, this thread is the place to turn and Rush is the band to listen to!

  13. I would like to join you in the apology, if I may, SWS. I regret my participation in a thread that lead to the departure of a regular. My intent was just to be silly, and I sincerely apologize to Goob for my actions. I did not intend to hurt him or make him feel uncomfortable. I'm sorry Goober. And many thanks to the OP for making this thread. This has been weighing on me for many months and I've been unsure about how to broach the subject. Thank you for providing an outlet. CygnusGal, thank you. I already apologized to Goobs but perhaps a public apology from me to him is in order as well. It is easy to apologize privately and quite another thing to do it in a public manner. Goobs, as I already told you, it never occurred to me that someone would have taken offense at that thread. I am sorry that I amused myself at your expense and if by doing so I hurt you in any way. Once again, I ask for your forgiveness.

  14. Just curious, but why would you want any band to open for Rush, rather than seeing both bands on their own? I would love to but when was the last time you saw Triumph or Zebra.....On their own? Triumph would be great. They have some magic power Triumph Set: Allied Forces Magic Power Never Surrender Mid Summer's Day Dream/ A World of Fantasy Tears in the Rain Embrujo/ All The Kings Horses Carry on The Flame Moving On Lay it on the Line Hold On Follow Your Heart Fight the Good Fight Never Say Goodbye Then :rush: for 2-1/2 hours! All I'd wanna hear from Triumph: Lay It On The Line Magic Power I Live For The Weekend Never Surrender When The Lights Go Down Fight The Good Fight Nothing else please... Seriously? They have a sh** load of tunes that are just as good as those. Hey Bowl...Thunder Seven...gotta get it...like now. No Sh** My favorite!! :haz: It holds its own against any record from the era. Well produced. Best sounding bass Triumph ever had. Flawless. Rik's voice and guitar work are top notch. His voice is so golden. Emmett is a great, great guitarist but his voice is a gift from God. :goodone: Damn right!! Rik Emmett is the man. :haz: I can still remember the day I first heard this album. They came up here in the early 80's. A friend and I were painting his Apt. We were listening to the interview on the radio a day before the concert. We were thinking, should we go down there and try to meet them. We did, in his 1977 Nova. We met Emmett & Levine as they were leaving the station. Talked a bit. I got there Autographs. Still have them!! :7up: :D

  16. This is only about the live versions... I understand that, but the studio version is the one I like best. His vocal performance is so good on that album. I know I'm in the minority, but SCOG gives me goosebumps The vocals on that song ruin it for me.

  17. 14 August 2014 Thursday Common Loon Named for their clumsy, awkward appearance when walking on land, common loons are migratory birds which breed in forested lakes and large ponds in northern North America and parts of Greenland and Iceland. They winter all along North America’s Pacific and Atlantic coasts as well as in Europe and Iceland. Their unusual cries, which vary from wails to tremolos to yodels, are distinct to individuals and can be heard at great distances. Loon cries are most prevalent during breeding season as pairs aggressively defend their territories. Loons have striking red eyes, black heads and necks, and white striping, checkering, and spotting on their backs. They grow up to three feet (91 centimeters) in length and weigh up to 12 pounds (5 kilograms), feeding largely on fish and invertebrates. They nest lakeside and incubate their eggs for 27 to 30 days. Hatchlings leave the nest on their first day and are able to fly in about 11 weeks. There are many Native American legends about common loons. And to this day the Inuit legally hunt over 4,500 a year for subsistence. Loon populations are currently stable, but a number of threats loom, including human encroachment and pollution. http://i.imgur.com/OZaLhP9.jpg

  18. What really made my day was watching this video. It seems to me we could use a little reminder from time to time that the world can be, and by large is, a very nice place to be. http://youtu.be/R1lvj1WPiH4 Love to you all.

  20. I saw Van Halen open for Black Sabbath. I think it was '78. Van Halen blew them off the stage. My father saw that tour, and said the same exact thing! I saw both bands back then. But at different times. Saw Sabbath about six times back in the day.

  25. I'm not sorry for: 1. Who I am. There's a reason why all of us are born as the people we are. 2. For not being a person that someone else wants me to be. Nobody else can live my life, and there's nothing wrong with living life the way that I want to. 3. For not being perfect. There's no such thing as perfect. 4. For having an opinion. We're all allowed to form ideas based on our experiences. 5. For messing up. Mistakes are inevitable and I have something to learn from them. 6. For loving someone. My intention is to spread love. Sometimes I get it back and sometimes I don't. Regardless of the outcome, I won't miss out on an opportunity to love someone. 7. For feeling. Feelings remind me that I am alive. 8. For asking someone to do something. The worst thing that they can say is no. 9. For forgetting sometimes. All of us forget, what can we do? 10. For failing or falling. Both of these actions re-route our journeys and we often end up having acquired more knowledge and wisdom than we had previously thought. 11. For taking my time. My time belongs to me.

  41. My friend's mom went to go see Black Sabbath back in the 70's and they had this relatively unknown band open for them. The crowd loved them so much they started crying for them to come back after Black Sabbath took the stage. It was a band called Kansas.

Let's see now ... how many more months do we have to wait before you finally realize that Clockwork Angels and Vapor Trails are sofa king excellent, especially compared to Presto and HYF? :outtahere: If they ever re-record VT were I can hear the songs through all the noise I might rethink my position.....

  44. It's not that at all, I just don't think at this point of there career they need an opeing act. If they ever did, it would have to some one like UFO or a band that they toured with back in the 70's. Otherwise, I would wait outside until the opening act was over.

  46. Xanadu by a wide margin for me. I've always felt that Natural Science is overrated. To be sure, it is incredibly impressive where musicianship is concerned, especially Geddy's handling of the song in a live context. Still, I've long felt that it lacks a great melody and hook. It certainly sounds scientific, but more mechanical than natural. Or it could simply be unfair to compare Natural Science to the towering Xanadu. ;)
