  1. I love Totem, but I'm not sure how to vote because I don't know if "pole-smokin'" is a good thing.

  3. 1 drum solo no longer than 5 minutes I think its best inserted into YYZ like on ESL He can put everything into a 5 minute bad ass solo They can do a couple acoustic numbers and everyone gets their breaks

  4. FWIW, like others who've mentioned being with a range of sizes, I never think back on hot male lovers I've had and think "man, his penis was [whatever]!" And, truth be told, as I get older the more I'm likely to remember the ones who I had a really fun time with, or were funny, etc. more than the sex (and honestly I don't often think back to the assholes who were good in bed, except to spit their name, haha). :D

  5. It's "slap the bass" you stupid f*cking asshole. You cheap, lying, no-good, rotten, four-flushing, low-life, snake-licking, dirt-eating, inbred, overstuffed, ignorant, blood-sucking, dog-kissing, brainless, dickless, hopeless, heartless, fat-ass, bug-eyed, stiff-legged, spotty-lipped, worm-headed sack of monkey shit! Hallelujah! Holy shit! Where's the Tylenol?

  7. Nothing wrong with relevant images of each song played. For example, pop up the snowy owl album cover as they go into fly by night, or, the Hemispheres artwork of the same song. I think projecting time-accurate images would really enhance the feeling of the older material.

  8. OMG WE GET IT. Geddy's vocals= not what they used to be! lol He still rocks. so there.

  9. It was kind of like the Marilyn Monroe syndrome. Nobody can act that stupid and really be stupid. I'll second the vote that it was probably Alex playing a practical joke.

  10. I'll go a step further. I would love an instrumental album. I know most wouldn't want it but I would. Some funky, jazzy instrumentals with no vocals to end it all would be fine with me. I will never forget the first listens to La Villa and thinking damn that is cool, funky and different. I would love to hear a whole album of that style music from them. Lets have an opus to end all opuses recorded clear and concise...... :)

  11. I can do without the background videos and effects on the big screens while Rush is in concert. The big screens should strictly be used to show close ups of the 3 guys (for those not fortunate enough to get front row seats). Cutting out those special effects could help reduce the cost of the tickets as money would not need to be spent. After all, we're there to see Rush! This is strictly my opinion, of course. Discuss and have at 'er.

  19. It's very similar to the way the slaves did a type of singing. Kind of a sing and answer thing. I took an in-depth music origin class. "Song and call" It's completely American. well, African, I suppose.

  20. I don't think everyone in the crowd enjoys it. I think it bores the bejesus out of the casuals. Even when I'm up close to the band, he gets people politely looking on. I'm not saying that people don't love it, but it gets less of a reaction during the song than virtually anything else they do. And while the bathrooms and bear lines don't go crazy, they seem busier during the solo than during anything that isn't Territories. What's a bear line. Like Teddy Bears? Or are you talking about the one time they toured and had a "get your picture taken with a real Canadian bear" kiosk? Oh the humanity....

  21. I saw AC/DC open for KISS in 1977. My friends and I had no idea who they were at the time. After the show and the next day at school everyone was talking about them and not KISS.

  24. Close To The Edge The Yes Album Going For The One Tormato are my favorite 70's Yes studio recordings. Outstanding all of them. Yessongs is an awesome live recording that covers their very early stuff. There are other members here that are more expert on their post 1980 stuff. I know some of it and like some but I wouldn't consider myself expert on it. Hope this helps some.... :) Those are all excellent albums. I'd suggest getting them in the following order: 1. The Yes Album & Fragile - Two early classics, together they include most of the band's classic 10-minute-ish long songs. And Fragile has "Roundabout," which admittedly I've heard a lot in my many decades of Yesfandom, but I still remember the first time I heard the organ arpeggios over the chorus, and it still sends chills up my spine to think of it. :) 2. Close To The Edge - Possibly their greatest album. My favourite. Their first excursion into a side length song. 3. Going For The One - Skips over two mid-70's albums, Tales From Topographic Oceans and Relayer. Don't get me wrong, I love them both, and they are among my favourite work by the band, but compared to the albums on this list they are pretty challenging. It took me a long time to deeply appreciate both, let alone even understand them. GFTO is a lot easier to digest, with a number of concise (for them) songs and the awe-inspiring 17 minute classic, "Awaken." Enjoy! They are an exciting band to discover. Well said. I guess a lot of folks just don't love Tormato like I do.... :) Tormato is magnificent, barking mad, and all the better for it.

  26. I would actually be disappointed if they dropped sawyer (or TSOR) from the set. it's one of the only songs that gets the whole place excited. when I see rush, most people around me act like they're at a play or an opera (or asleep). tom sawyer actually gets the crowd going Taking my son to see them in 2007 is a perfect example. He was 17 at the time and I was 47. He is a musician and it was his first show and I am not a musician and it was my 10th. I sat most of the time and listened and cheered and he was going nuts (especially during Natural Science). I think he was a bit surprised and disappointed by my calm demeanor..... :) He was like "come on dad" yeah even by my 3rd rush show I wasn't nearly as excited as I was for my 1st or my 2nd. plus, being young, I can stand pretty much the whole time without breaking a hip. I like to make fun of the folks who look bored for most of the gig but I often forget that for a lot of those bored looking older folks, it's their 25th show and the whole time they're just thinking "man, this sure sounded better when they did it in 1980." which it probably did, so I guess I can't blame em. There was also something to being drunk and or high back in the day that made it seem more entertaining as well. The trip afterwards to Mickey D's for about 5 hamburgers and two large fries was nice too..... my post-concert restaurant's usually waffle house :D-13: Love me some Waffle House myself.... :d13:

  30. I disagree, I go to see a show, a multi-media event, not just watching music play. Rush is after all, acclaimed for their presentation.

  31. I miss him terribly, he really seemed to "get it"... I think he successfully expressed the feelings that all Rush fans wish they could express, but simply could not find the right words. I, for one, would like to nominate Inyo as the greatest Rush fan of 2014. Thank you for your words of wisdom Inyo.

  33. Rush is known for their stage show, they can't drop any of that stuff. Like the drum solo it's become such a big part of the live experience that dropping it would just look odd. They're not a club/theater band, they are and arena band and they need to have an arena show.

  35. I left work early to catch my son's hockey travel team tryout. I got to the rink about 15 minutes in. I watched him absolutely flying around the ice like a maniac. Out town has a really competitive program, so it'll be close. But I was so proud of how hard he tried.

  37. I actually enjoy the "show" aspect. It has gotten maybe a little over the top but I still think it adds to the entertainment experience. Having said that. if they ever decided to go really "old school" and play ATWAS all the way through without all the theatrics I guess I could allow that......

  38. Yes! This would be awesome. It's something I always hoped that they would do. Even before Geddys vocals started to go downhill. You know they have a bunch of jams recorded and in their heads that they could structure in to beautiful "listening music". Imagine all of their instrumentals on one album and on steroids. Oh it would be fabulous.... :)

  41. I would rather have recordings of the vocals played over top while the boys just rock out! For the most part, the instrumentals just don't do it for me, I like the songs with vocals much more

  42. Well, I've been on for long enough to know what to do when I ended up with this: http://i1295.photobucket.com/albums/b629/Knightsaber1/inyotrollface_zpsf323e6c0.jpg Hope the entire TRF community enjoyed that one. :eyeroll: I must have missed some fireworks here while I was in Florida..... He came in and was obnoxious to everyone, acted like he was on drugs, couldn't write any sort of intelligible sentences, and every other word was an F bomb. I hope he WAS banned. Most of his threads were deleted right away. Thanks for the update. Guess I didn't miss much then.... :)

  48. Ooh good call. Take out Sabbath then. No! Thin Lizzy, Slayer, Motorhead, but not Sabbath? One of those three is getting the boot before Paranoid. seriously. who the hell says "take out sabbath" on a list of classic metal albums No shit. I've played the song live many times...thank God Ozzy left them. I've never made it through an entire album. I know...I suck Humor me brother. Pay attention particularly to track 3 (Planet Caravan), track 7 (Rat Salad) and track 8 (Fairies Wear Boots). That, including the 3 I know you know, brings the number of brilliant songs on this album up to 6. And the other 2 are pretty damn good too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=avgMaWsJcRM
